That is one area the game is missing on I think a tutorial to introduce everything to players who have not played FH4 to death, as I can totally see how newer players find it overwhelming

This has been a thing since the second one for me really. No explanation of what things do and how it all works.... no online manuals etc by the developers. Guess you are expected to just google and watch everything on YouTube these days.

Really feel for people in general who are just coming into gaming TBH. Its not a problem particular to Forza Horizon either. Think what doesn't help is they have different names for the effectively the same thing in other games. Once you have an understanding of the basic concepts it becomes easier.

Sometimes I think developers/marketers try that hard to differentiate their games from others they end up confusing everyone... :(

So I have a couple of things that seem locked to me. I missed a couple of optional objectives around the ruins (photographing a couple of statues and getting to the highest point) that now appear to be forever lost to me, and the last barn find I have (I think it’s the 70’s Ford Escort) just will not unlock :(

That's not the last barn find (unless you mean the last barn find you found).

Anyway, the unlock is tied to progress through the game.  So keep playing the various races and race types and eventually it will unlock it.

Hrm, I can’t remember seeing an option to replay an expedition. I’ll check later.

You just select it on the map again to replay it.

Hmm I'm not seeing these. I've unlocked most of the first chapters but haven't seen a showcase event since the start.

They might be on the map under the massive amount of other icons of course! Unfortunately the event filter is broken for me so I can't turn anything off :(

Yes, they're map icons. And there's a specific filter for them.

No, you need to earn accolade points to open up all the chapters and then the next accolade point target after that will be the Hall of Fame

Right, so get all the stamps for the Horizon Adventure thingies?

Yes, you need a tick against each of the chapters in that list thing that pops up with the ladies voice when you open a new chapter.  Note that you just need to have them all open, you don't have to complete the actual activities themselves

I’ve not really had chance to put any time into this yet, but before I get going with it, which assists should I be turning off?

What kind of racing do you like? I've got everything off bar ABS and clutch.

I’m not really sure to be honest. I’ve always just left the setting as they are out of the box, but I’m willing to try other setups if it makes it feel better.

You don't even need them open, just to have earned sufficient points to do so.  I still have 2 of the street ones to open (and only opened the first to get the 2mill house). Additionally, opening them generates still more points.

Turn off traction control and stability management at the very least. If you're on a controller I'd set Anti-lock on and steering to Standard. Driving line is personal preference but I always turn it off because it ruins the immersion and defeats the whole purpose of the game for me.

whats the best car to buy in the autoshow with my freebie from the add-on pack

Everyone generally buys the most expensive one 30 million Shelby Daytona Cobra then sells it on the Auction House for credits. I call that cheating. I've still not used my free car token.

Some good highlights from the guy at the top of the leaderboards.

I tried and failed to play online with my friend tonight. There’s a menu called friends/players in the online tab, but it’s greyed out, and when clicked says I’m offline (news to me) and that I need connect to Horizon Life; which I duly click and… nothing happens.

Is this just a description of the ongoing bugs the game is suffering, or am I doing it wrong?

I like a decent challenging race for a win, but the AI is being a bit inconsistently bloody mega rapid on the Costera Cross Country Circuit in A class!

Dropped it down to Highly Skilled difficulty and still they were zooming off from me.

I thought maybe it was just me being a bit shit (unlikely I know ;)) so went into Rivals to see how my lap times compared and I got in the top 1% with about 1000th place on the global out of around 380,000.

Ran the race a few more times and eventually just got the win, but damn it wasn't easy.

I'm finding I've got quite a changeable relationship with this game. I was loving it on Friday and Saturday, but playing last night and a bit more this evening, I've found that I've cooled on it significantly. I'm not sure why. It's both endlessly deep and frivolously shallow at the same time, layers and layers of systems coupled with endless box ticking and a constant impetus to get to the next thing, and the next and the next and the next without spending any time truly learning a course or the nuances of a particular car. It's as if there are too many variables.

I dunno. Maybe I'll love it again tomorrow.

Struggingly to finish an arcade multiplayer event. Always fails during the second round. I did s speed one where only two of us were involved and they left half way through the first round. Bt annoying for getting points.

I've just given up on the Horizon Arcade events as they're a complete waste of time. Nobody is doing them and unless there's a bare minimum of three of you attempting them it's impossible to reach the second round, let alone the third to have a chance at completing it.

I have no idea why they changed it from the Forzathon Live events in FH4 that were announced in a voiceover but could happily be ignored if you wished. At least people knew they were taking place then and they'd always be healthily populated and good fun but the Arcade events in FH5 just pop up randomly on the map screen with no fanfare whatsoever and unless you happen to be looking at the right spot at that particular moment you'd just never know they were there. A really strange decision on Playground's part.

Oh so its not just me then! :) Same thing happened to me both times I tried an arcade event. Wonder if its a bug or people just trying and quitting. Or maybe they don't understand what you are supposed to do? As mentioned elsewhere on this topic there are hardly any tutorials on this or explanations anywhere. Actually went to the Playground website to see if they had any info on the game modes etc the other day. Seems like its just a PR site couldn't find any info on there....

Really don't know about expectations these days regarding games and explaining how to play them. Guessing for most games have into levels that serve as tutorials on how to use the various controls... I was playing Halo Infinite last night and that had an academy so probably just playground being a bit pushed for time and not including them or even that they feel that the game and online stuff is so easy to pick up it doesn't need guidance?

Or maybe perhaps its even designed like this so people get together and discuss? Forming communities and keeping people talking and engaged in the game? Personally I like a tutorial /intro bit into modes of a game.

I realise it comes across like I hate this game in here. That's not the case. I love it. The exploration, the handling, the locations, the PR stunts, barn finds, and I guess the racing are great. I even like the idea of the always online, dip into community stuff.

But it's so fucking terribly presented or introduced (or not).

Series/seasons/forzathon points. WTF? I mean one of them is even for a shop that's not open yet.

Seasonal events that refuse to provide a description of what to do and when you 'fail' don't unlock and give the wrong error messages.

constant bombardment of notifications that contain useful info but are immediately replaced with the next. Press 'X' do spin/collect car/receive reward but it's gone whilst you think about it.

Eliminator/rivals/arcade/adventure/convoy/playground.

Some of it is exacerbated by bugs but most of it obtuse design. A desire I think to be "cool" and streamlined that means there's just no space or time to let the player know what they're doing.
