Do I need to download something to use a DS3? Plugged in with USB?

Yes, you need something called SCP Toolkit that installs DS3 and DS4 drivers. It essentially fools Windows into thinking it's a 360 controller. It'll show up when you plug it in but you need the drivers.

Hall of Fame time!

In top 5% of an incredible 8.3m players.

Congratulations!!

I hit the hall of fame tonight too.  Big fanfare from the Hospital Radio DJs, new Superstar on the Horizon stage etc!!! Woo!!

Checks Hall of Fame, hmm, 640,000th!! 🤣 (top 6%)

Have been doing lots of races tonight in A class to make a change from my souped up Cossie and the 2003 Ferrari 360 I got from hitting the hall of fame is really great and easy to drive, have been zooming through the street and road racing events in it.

This was my big issue with FH4, for some reason I haven't had it hear. In the last one I couldn't win anything as every other car hooned off immediately and was often miles ahead.

As I did more of the championship races this problem seemed to go away, and it wasn’t me improving. Maybe it was tuning “highly skilled” to me or something. Very very weird.

The seasonal events are all Highly Skilled and it's frustrating as shit, because instead of everyone zooming off it's just the first 4 and the rest of the pack are still fighting with you. It doesn't help that despite playing racing games for literally decades I still seem unable to grasp the concept of not turning while braking. Curves I can do. Right angled corners I end up smashing into the boards every single fucking time.

Really enjoying this. I don't do racing games that much, since Burnout Paradise really, but came on for some Reward points and ended up staying on. I only played a tiny bit of 4 so everything's mostly new and just driving around is a lot of fun.

It's a very overwhelming experience at first, though. So this is what modern open-world games are like. It took me a while to understand what was going on with the hundreds of different things happening. I eventually settled on wanting the Delorean so I've been trying to complete seasonal events and I'm still unsure if I'm doing everything properly. Some don't seem to complete, the restrictions are confusing and some things I can't find. There was that challenge to get stars on danger signs, but all the signs have disappeared except one. Is that a filter I've got on, a bug, or something else?

I had so much joy from Forza Horizon 4 and so far I'm having just as much from FH5. I love the new setting and there initially seems to be more variety in the type of terrain and surroundings from 4. I don't even feel that I've done a load of events, but just been driving about finding roads and billboards. They just need to sort out the wee bugs that are there and I can see me getting as much out of this as I did with 4.

You need to unlock the outpost in the north part of the map to unlock danger signs, speed zones, and drift zones.

Yeah, for that one you need to unlock the relevant to Horizon Adventure (bottom-left card in the pause screen) in order to splatter PR events (of which Danger Signs are one variety) all over the map. The adventure you need to unlock is called 'Rush'. You just need to earn enough Accolade Points in order to get an unlock token - you might already have one.

That is one area the game is missing on I think a tutorial to introduce everything to players who have not played FH4 to death, as I can totally see how newer players find it overwhelming

They could do it in the form of a introductory drive around, taking you through each of the various events and then detailing how to unlock more of that event.

Make it optional by all means but throw in a decent car unlock and an achievement for completion and most players would do it.

Thanks, although It makes no sense why I had one outside my Casa Bella home which just vanished. I must have missed that in-game chatter about it.

Yes, it's a curious omission, not to have some sort of tutorial explaining how the various in-game currencies are used, and all the seasonal stuff (which I tend to ignore).

Most of my time is spent in a loop - go crazy on skill songs -> do some racing as variety -> gain XP-> win new car -> apply skills if a good 'un -> auction off the dross, with some more serious road completion now beginning to kick in.

Close to getting the 1.5mill needed for the penultimate house (I've had a lot of 6 figure cash rewards so far and very few clothes).  Also enjoying the story chapters with the either / or alternatives now being offered.  There is much less of the sense of coming up against some drifting or speed challenge early on which just seems insurmountable.

The novelty event with the jet skiers has got me puzzled.  I feel there has to be a "trick" to it because repeating the race with successively better times doesn't change the outcome - the skiers always sneak ahead of me at the end.  Sometimes I get to 3/4 or 2/4 but not towards the end. Any thoughts?

Also, it's bizarre that new cars are always delivered facing the opposite way, or maybe not if they are sent to meet you by some unnamed party.

Otherwise, incredibly enjoyable in-spite or because of the familiarity.  Always a good trick to release a game full of cloud and light in these dismal November days.

it was the opposite for me, they were well ahead but slowed down and let me steal the win right on the finish line.

So I have a couple of things that seem locked to me. I missed a couple of optional objectives around the ruins (photographing a couple of statues and getting to the highest point) that now appear to be forever lost to me, and the last barn find I have (I think it’s the 70’s Ford Escort) just will not unlock :(

Think it might be a bug in my save game. Very irritating.

Can't you just replay the expedition and get the missing objective? In the RB map filter set it to just Showcases & Expeditions to see them better. Looks like the Tulum Expedition is the one you want.

By unlocking the relevant chapter (after the first chapter in each section) - look at the description.

Hmm I'm not seeing these. I've unlocked most of the first chapters but haven't seen a showcase event since the start.

They might be on the map under the massive amount of other icons of course! Unfortunately the event filter is broken for me so I can't turn anything off :(

Such a good game so far. I feel I could easily spend a whole day on it (which these days is unheard of - I best I get a couple of hours a week). Hoping the patch comes out soon though as it is surprisingly rough around the edges.

(Not sure how how many of the bugs are specific to running on OG Xbox one, but it's a supporter platform so they shouldn't be there. )

Hrm, I can’t remember seeing an option to replay an expedition. I’ll check later.

The last barn find takes ageeeeeeeeeeees to unlock (i.e be repaired).

Oh I’ve completed THAT one. I can’t get the last rumour to unlock is the problem :(
