Oof Betty is kicking my arse at the moment.

Toughest boss so far.

She's strikingly similar to the Guardian Ape fight in Sekiro. Once you figure out how to get out from under her rolls she's not so tricky.

Thanks to @Jamie John I've had another wind at the end game, got most of the requirements but realised I also need to get all the seeds in plant pots which I think might be a bridge too far. One thing I've noticed is, on series X at any rate, the shadows are ray traced as, I'm pretty sure, are the reflections. I only mention it as it's on Unity - not noted for its technical prowess but it seems to run fine at 60fps at what appears to be very close to 4K - hopefully this means Unity have sorted out their engine performance.

You need to roll slightly later than you might think, as her roll tends to track you if you roll immediately.

Also, ranged attacks are your friend. The power up to let you set enemies on fire and keep doing damage over time is well worth having.

Taking my time with this now as I don't want it to end too soon. Hookshot acquired, flame and bombs upgraded, magic increased by one and on the hunt for the upgrades and a fourth life crystal. This is such a good game – well balanced, nice exploration, some bastard hard bosses and a well-paced reward system.

I have also been farming that spider/bug nest for orbs as I want to max my stats ASAP.

I have not upgraded anything (no health or magic upgrades either). On the last boss fight. Going to finish it later today.

Things would have been much easier if i searched for the upgrades.

Yeah, you don't need to grind souls for stat upgrades, not really. Upgrading your health by doing the shrines is more useful. They're trickier to find but a lot more interesting than grinding.

Yeah, I have done none of that. Lol

No point going back now since I'm at last boss.

I cashed in a few MS reward points and got this for £1.64. It’s a bit special isn’t it! Incredible level design and tough without being unfair. My only real issue is having to hold down L2 then B to fire arrows, in the heat of battle I keeping trying to just hold B.

So I'm getting my arse handed to me by:

  Hide contents

... the fat green knight in the Overgrown Ruins with the mace that leaves clouds of poison gas.

Every time I think I'm getting good at this game, it reminds me I am not.

Yep, he's an arse. Have you got the

Spoiler

fire upgrade

or the

Spoiler

greatsword?

I used both of those to whittle him down. Roll in, two slashes, roll out, two fire balls - rinse and repeat, and don't get greedy.

@Jamie JohnI have all upgrades and weapons now. I just can't time the roll any more for the life of me and I get clobbered.

IIRC, he smashes his mace about four times and then there's a brief pause, so that's your window to get a couple of hits in before he winds up again. I think you can use the bomb flower there to good effect, too, it you hit it and pause briefly, then lure the knight into where you were standing.

It's the first jump strike that I seem completely unable to avoid now.

EDIT: Had a few more terrible runs then – in true game fashion – annihilated him without taking a hit

Tempted by this but have bounced off hard games in the past. Is this Dark Souls hard or more manageable? Not sure I want something that makes me angry, but this really looks up my street.

It starts off pretty easy and gets challenging from the half-way point onwards, but it never feels insurmountable. It's far less punishing than Souls, too, with much more generous checkpoints and shortcuts. If you die on a boss there's always a checkpoint right before so you can jump back in straight away. Buy it!
