Ooh it has Great Garianos. I got blisters playing that in the arcade! 

 

If we get custom charges on top of having paid Vat to SLG what can we do? 

Is it just a case of contacting SLG and requesting a vat refund? It does feel like  a blatant rip off.

Hi all. Long time lurker here (although I post on other forums from time to time) and I've recently joined up after searching around for some advice to add to the tales of woe on this thread.

 

I'm currently waiting on delivery of an Egret 2 Mini Game Center Blue Edition myself and I too have now been hit with the dreaded 'Pay up another chunk of money or you're not getting your stuff' notification. Presumably, I'm going to be stung for nearly £87 as well, judging by what I'm seeing here 😔 

 

Yeah, I understand the law and how customs now works (particularly post-Brexit) but it's still absolutely grinding on me that I've now got to pony up that kind of amount after forking out over £400 earlier in the year and thinking everything was covered. They really do seem to be clamping down on us, for some reason all of a sudden, almost as if they're actively keeping an eye out for Egret Mini 2 deliveries 🙄 I take it there's nothing at all we can do and we're just all going to have to suck it up?

 

Luckily, I have got enough to cover it at the moment but I can imagine that kind of charge would put quite a lot of people in a tight spot.

 

I'm still very much looking forward to getting hold of it, but it's really soured the excitement I first had last week after getting the dispatch email.

I read that as it changed the order of games shown depending on whether the trackball was connected or not.

 

So has anyone contacted Strictly Limited about the VAT situation?

Not yet. I definitely will be as soon as I get my letter of charges from Parcelforce. Strictly Limited have got a reputation for ignoring/fobbing off/being slow to respond to enquiries though, so I won't hold my breath 😑

 

UK Customs must have been rubbing their hands together in glee at all the Egret 2 Minis dispatched over to here recently.

The thing with that is the update says not to insert the SD card after the update and to only connect the controller

Yes, I contacted them on Monday but haven't had a reply.
I looked into the tax situation, which is as clear as mud, but it looks like there's no getting away from the fact that the money is owed. I've just swallowed it and paid the bill. It does leave a sour taste though.

I'm a new member here, got my Egret Mini 2 the other day, also had to pay £86 Customs. I have emailed SLG and not had a response...

 

It's a great little unit, comes into it's own when you add the spinner, I made sure I updated it before though! Games seem to play great, only Truxton seems to slow down and speed up again only slightly, I know the game well as I have owned the PCB for years. Update seems to have improved latency and taken out all those pauses.

Looks like since about three weeks ago, a couple of guys are working on making Batocera a thing on both the Astro City and Egret Mini machines (they share the same hardware guff):

 

 

There's more on the YouTube channel, and when it's ready it'll be available on this GitHub.

 

Of course, it might not see the light of day, but it was nice news to see while I was thinking about plonking one of mine on my work desk as a nice ornament.

Finally opened up my trackball/spinner today. It’s really lovely being able to play Arkanoid with a spinner even though it’s an absolute bastard.

 

What I’ve enjoyed most though is Cameltry. I’ve played it a fair bit on SNES but the super responsive rotation with the spinner really makes it something else.

Shit. Was pretty drunk the other night, went on a ridiculous drunken spree. Bought stuff I've had in my saved for later for months on my Amazon account. They were a NEO GEO Mini, the Sega Astrocity and of course, the Egret II. Oh, and a Yamaha PSR E473 keyboard. 

 

Forgot all about it until just now, after I logged into my bank account on my phone. Thought I'd been hacked. Staying away from the whiskey for a while.

 

Looking forward to this the most, love the games and the rotating screen. All coming on Wednesday. I'm excited but I have to chill on buying so much shit. I'll end up bankrupt lol.
