Nintendo Switch OLED - who needs 4k, dat screen

I bought a second dock to use at work, so I'd play at home, suspend the game and continue on my monitor with headphones at lunchtime. I didn't want to play BotW on the portable screen.

Playing handheld with a system that prioritises form over ergonomics also wasn't pleasant. I'd get cramp in my hands after a while.

The Hori joycons that are basically half a pro pad on each side are a revelation for handheld play.

Without them I cramp something chronic but with them can easily play for hours. Proper game changer stuff for handheld play.

The second screen nature of the Switch is the big appeal for me (along with my laptop) it’s so rare for me to get custardy of the main tv that without them I’d rarely get much play in at all before wife and kids have gone to bed!

I actually prefer playing on a smaller but close by screen these days, probably my forty something eyesight but coupled with headphones you can get properly immersed.

They're good, I also use them all the time for handheld play because they're more comfortable than the regular joy-cons, but I do wish they were a bit better. They're so cheap and plasticky and the sticks have massive travel on them, they don't feel like the Pro pad at all. I'm surprised they're officially licensed by Nintendo to be honest because everything about them screams "cheap third-party knock-off".

The main issue over these rumours and the Switch Pro generally is the silicon shortage which seems to be plaguing the market at the moment and by all accounts is due to get worse before it gets better. So taking that in to consideration are Nintendo really going to try and launch a new console this year which will likely be affected by those shortages, rather than just continue selling the regular one which isn’t, and is still selling fantastically well?

I guess the idea is for the new Switch to replace the current Switch model so it is still just supplying broadly the same amount of consoles, they will just be new Switch rather than current Switch.

As for why now, with the current shortages, it is possible there are games coming for the new specs which no one wants to just sit on a shelf until the new console can be released.

I’ve clocked thousands of hours with the switch and have literally only tried 5 minutes with it docked, out of curiosity.

We are the exact opposite.

The kids do sometimes take it in the car but otherwise very rarely does it come out of the dock.

Bold short dated prediction that, no time to build hype for your twitter account.

Within 24h you'll either look like a proper 'in the know' or one of those nutters prophesizing the world will blow up when the Eastenders drums kick in tonight.

Direct just got annoucned for E3 on the 15th at 5pm our time. It specifically states it will talk about software for 2021 and some for the year after. No mention of hardware but it's been stated by insiders that they wanted to have a seperate announcement for hardware.
