2017 was four years ago. How long should a console last? Three years? Big games can take four years to develop.

I don’t know when the Switch was released,  sorry. Choose a date, the point still stands.

Ooh I'm a Switch fanboy now?

Superb! I think that's the only one I was missing on this forum!

I’m struggling to see where I quoted you, sorry. Otherwise I’m not sure why you are quoting me.

Sure. It doesn’t need a performance upgrade. But it really fucking needs a performance upgrade. Ya know?

The Switch OLED is disappointing as fuck and we all know it.

Indeed.

I’m not sure why people are reacting so vehemently to the observation, it’s hardly controversial.

EDIT: Unless people who are buying one are upset by people making the observation that is, which if that is the case, is just silly.

So you’re saying that either;

a) The Switch was released too early and they should have waited until the hardware was sufficient enough to eliminate some very minor frame rate dips, or;

b) The game was fine but after 4 years you’ve decided it doesn’t run properly and these same minor issues are no longer acceptable.

Which is it?

I think it’s more that whilst most people here would welcome a more powerful model with improved performance, we’ve accepted that it’s not happening, because what else can you do? It’s futile to argue otherwise IMO, this is Nintendo after all.

Aside from that I don’t actually think it matters that much, not for most of the games Nintendo releases.

I mean if @ZOKcan point to issues with performance in any upcoming titles that he’s concerned about, be my guest, but they all look fine to me, maybe I’m just more tolerant I don’t know. I still think the Switch is pretty magical.

I honestly don’t get your point @Stanley. I agree, the Switch is magical. It’s pretty much my favourite console ever.

It’s also woefully underpowered in today’s market and can’t run games like BOTW and Enter the Gungeon properly, so it needs an upgrade to give it more juice under the hood.

I will say, I think this is slightly unfair, even though it works both ways.

Nobody really knows how ‘upcoming’ titles will perform until someone gets their hands on them and reports back.

The most powerful handheld by a country mile, a system only half way through the average life span of a modern system, is "long in the tooth" because 1 person doesn't like how a launch game runs.

Mad.

Yes, I’m the only person saying it. :sherlock:

Careful now, that’s the sort of talk that really seems to get people’s knickers in a twist!

You're a great poster Zok but this whole rant slides in just below "Leave Britney alone" for level of unhinged.

Really? I wasn’t aware I was ranting, or saying anything even mildly controversial. I remember when the OLED was announced when people were expecting the ‘Pro’ version, and afaik most people felt the same.

Also, it might not want to be the reference point Dudley wants,  because the ‘leave Britney alone” guy was derided by the mob, and yet turned out to be right.

That does sound like me in this thread. Although don’t forget I was right at the start too. :quote:

For another two and a bit months, anyway.

Not entirely sure why but I've decided to get on board the hype train and pre order one. I do wish it was a Switch Pro instead but eh, it still looks better than no Switch at all.

@ZOK, Your as right as every other person on the internet that doesn’t get Nintendo.

Your not wrong, but it’s Nintendo’s pigheaded, short sighted “wrong” stuff that keeps Nintendo afloat. They would be another Sega, Atari, Amiga, Konami if it wasn’t for all the “wrong” things they do.

Well then it was underpowered right from the start wasn’t it, BOTW being a launch title and Gungeon following shortly after, we’re going round in circles.

Sable on Xbox Series X runs like absolute dog shit, perhaps you think that console is underpowered too?

As for “today’s market” what are you comparing it against, Xbox, PlayStation, iPhone? The Switch occupies a pretty unique space. Sure there are lots of more powerful alternatives but none of them really offer the same thing, or even similar.

Yes, arguably it was underpowered at launch, but that’s irrelevant today because that’s what people bought when they bought it years ago. And, yet again, it is why the upgrade it requires today is not a new screen and a new stand, but more power.

‘Today’s market’ is one where 4K tellies have become mass market, and the Switch looks pretty sad when it can’t take advantage of that resolution. What other consoles can do is not an issue, it’s about what the Switch can’t do.
