Battlefield 2042

In the first game I noticed this dude in the chat:

 

 

Then had a good game with some random guys:

 

 

 

I skipped BF1 and V as I didn't like the setting for 1 (and maybe V, can't remember) but this seems more like BF3/4 from what I recall. So many options and shit with the guns and characters etc, it's a bit overwhelming. The shooting works though which is the main thing.

Played a few matches and it looks and feels like a finished game now. Enjoyed the matches more once I stopped trying to spawn everywhere and instead just focused on one or two capture points.

 

The menus and UI are still a clusterfuck. I can't tell what is going on.

Gave this another shot now it’s on Game Pass and got up to around level 50 or so, unlocked a load of weapons, attachments and gadgets etc. …and you know what? 
 

I still think it’s an utter fucking garbage Battlefield game. Can’t be bothered to waste my time elucidating why, but for a multitude of reasons I find it an often painful experience and when the still utterly brilliant BF1 and BF5 still have healthy populations on console I think you’d be fucking mad to play this crap. Such a huge fall from grace.

 

Yeah they’ve ‘fixed’ some things from its disastrous launch but you can’t polish a turd and as I thought back then, this is such a fundamentally poorly designed Battlefield game that there was never any saving it. The player numbers don’t lie and any bump it gets from now being on subs services will be short-lived I suspect.

Jumped on this as it was $30 in the sales and I've been hammering Bf4 recently, and.... it's really good? It got a lot of bad press on release, but it's solid as IMO.

I've been enjoying it. 128 players is still way too many for it to be fun, so I've been playing Breakthrough. Also I found after I turned off cross play I wasn't getting murdered from out of nowhere and spent much more time alive.

I watched a video that explained all the changes made since launch. It looks almost like a different game.  I'm really into it. And as a PC player may I say I luuuuurve crossplay with consoles

I haven't used the botmatches before to unlock stuff but thought I would give it a go yesterday.

 

I think I might have been doing it wrong. 198 kills in one game. 😯

The difference between cross play being on and off is so stark, man. Anyone who says PC players don't have an advantage should be forced to play with a pad and see what they say after they get lasered in the head repeatedly match after match after match after etc

In Battlefield terms, not very long. You can't really make a proper judgement on a Battlefield game until you've played all of the maps multiple times and learned the choke points and flanking routes, properly leveled up some weapons with attachments, got to grips with all the gadgets etc. It's just the way these games are and have always been - very steep learning curves that don't reveal their subtler qualities until you're properly au fait with the many ways all the systems interact, and that inevitably takes some time.

I do absolutely agree that when playing on console it's night and day with crossplay turned off. Going up against PC players is an absolutely miserable experience but against a level playing field of other controller players it's a much more enjoyable game where you're going to have more of a chance to compete. 

 

I still think it's by a considerable distance the worst Battlefield game that DICE have ever produced, with some truly abysmal map design and far too much egregious chasing of the CoD crowd woven into its design. But with crossplay off you can have some fun with it and it does have its moments.

 

BF1 and 5 still wipe the floor with it mind.

I can't disagree with all of the above. It's not bad, it's just not a patch on BF1/V. There are two main issues I ran into - the grind to get decent weapons/attachments is far too long. But the biggest problem is that crossplay ruins the fun, and I literally can count on one hand the number of times I found a non-crossplay game. It kept launching me into lobbies with 4/5 other people who quit soon after. I even left it on a few times to see if it did ever populate - nope, never did. Why did they do it this? Why remove the server browser?

 

The times I could play with fellow XS people were by far the best games, it was actually good fun. But 95% of the time it was literally impossible to play, it just never found a populated game. All due to the way the game was made. Infuriating.

I’m not level 50 yet (40 something) and have played for a few hours each day since it came onto gamepass. I’ve done the weekly mission/challenges and get a bunch of ribbons etc each game so thought I was getting a reasonable amount of xp…

Had my first game on the map with the rocket launch last night, defending on breakthrough. Had no idea this map existed because the game browser does seem to love Taiwan.

 

Anyway, was playing, getting hammered, then I saw the bloody massive building in our spawn and wondered why no one was up there, so up I go with a sniper and spendthe rest of the match just spotting attackers and getting a few head shots until we won. My kills were in the single figures, but I came second on points with 90 assists.

The new map is fun on attack on breakthrough but very much the opposite of fun on defence. Especially on the last point. Whoever thought putting a massive ridge overseeing the only point from the side of the attackers needs a talking to. But more content is good, and we have new weasons, a vehcile, and a character ti play with.

 

I also appreciate the changes to the mini map.  It was the first ting I noticed when I logged in.

More thoughts - new tank anti rocket upgrade is BS. It invalidates all rockets. Will be getting a nerf. As will the new carbine. Shit is broke af.

Those of you still playing, what platform you on? I know there is cross play but I’d rather find some people who play on PS5 as my old BF mates have all stopped playing and I’d like to dip into this occasionally still.

People should come back/start playing is it's on PS+ this month. I bought a PS5 as the cross play makes this game fucking painful so I could play it with folks. Then I bought BF5 2042 for 15 quid 5 days before they announced it was coming to plus 

 

Still, got a tenner for it at CEX so it wasn't too bad.

No, on. Just the special queue in Breakthrough for the new map is always empty now and when I jump onto regular Breakthrough queues I go straight into a game.

 

The new map is really fun on other game modes, it's just you have to be really into masochism to enjoy defending on it on Breakthrough.

I've been playing this a bit again with the new season. The new map has some fantastic rocks. I'm still bad at the game but I'm improving a bit and slowly teaching my hands that holding down the trigger too long tends to throw off your aim Playing assault and medic (Falk) depending on how I feel. I play 128 player conquest since every time I try breakthrough I'm on the team getting murdered by immortal super men.

 

Also surprisingly and happily when I'm at work I can play a match on my lunchbreak over xcloud and it's actually decent. I was certainly getting murders done today.

Sounds a bit like how I play, casually and usually Falck too. I try to do all the weekly battlepass missions so as to have some kind of vague goal.

I've only played Falk a few times. I tend to start off on Angel and reach to Los or Mackay depending on what's required at the time. 

 

I love defending on Stranded when the attackers aren't paying attention. As Mackay you can grab a sniper, hook up to the prow of the boat and have a dozen headphones before they're realise you're behind them.

As I always play on my own, I go with Falck and an ammo crate to try keep the rest of the team in good order. When I do try the other guys it seems not every one else plays that way though!

"Restarted" when it was released on PS Essential. Playing is so much more fun when you have stuff to unlock and when you don't have access to all the best guns and attachments. Creates a more varied game actually which might sound a bit odd since since you actually have less choice.

 

Conquest 128 plays quite well now a days. I never go near Breaktrough though as I find these meat-grind modes very frustrating.
