I’ve seen a few streamers just say enough and quit it. Such a shame BF has come to this.

The majority of them are on PC and that version is in a much worse state than console.

Dice deciding cross play between PC and console was a good idea is a terrible decision.

I’ve mostly played on PC and when I logged into the PS5 version for the first time last night it carried all my progress over. I was very pleased by that but every time I tried to turn off cross play the game failed to load.

Even better

Then surely hacker or somesuch?

Possibly. I did have cross play disabled and was on PS5. TBH he seemed as confused as me/other teammates. It seemed he also couldn't use any of the ziplines, so it seems like more of a random bug (I've had instances where I couldn't fire my gun, where I've had to redeploy it to fix it).

Even though im not a fan at all, i watched an Angry joe rant about it that popped up on youtube and he was spot on with his (over the top) criticisms. Theres problems with the core game that cant be fixed.

Portal is the only thing that gives me hope for the future. The all out warfare main mode will be obsolete for me when i eventually jump back in down the road.

I was watching Westies latest video where he's talking about how Dice can disable individual elements and during his footage theres a hovercraft on top of one of the massive buildings. Like wtf?

I'm going to go back to the trial at the weekend because there's bound to be a fucking huge patch on Friday. Be interesting to see what they change.

You can spawn vehicles through parachute drops, so that's one way to get them on top of the buildings. It's a pretty cool example of how BF games have always had these crazy things happen that nobody really anticipated.

However, you can also drive hovercrafts up the side of buildings and, if you hit things right, fly them through the air. They are horrendously broken.

I mean some people say broken, some would call it a feature.... Some of the best battlefield moments have come from crap like this, unexpected bugs and glitches make for some hilarious moments. Yeah they might mean the game doesn't function as it should and it's likely a patch will turn up to remove it but they some of the best moments in gaming come from the unscripted and unexpected events.

My favourite moment so far is pinging a squad mate off the side of a mountain and killing him by squashing him between my tank and a rock ^_^

Oh I agree, it's hilarious and brilliant. The physics in the game are wild in some instances.

When you think of 4 and how utterly incredible it still is,  it was my go to for at least 2 years and fuelled so much fun, this is atrocious and thats not even mentioning bugs.

1 and V piss all over this in so may ways its crazy. Its just no fun attall, its totally lost its way and the core elements and systems that define BF have been fucked with and new stuff added that doesnt fit with the game or its predecessors.

I always relished the return to modern weapons and thought this would be BF4.2. My fears of these new maps being soulless and spread over massive areas of nothing have come to light.

its a really sad thing to see when a beloved series goes this way and I'd love to know how many of the devs from previous games are still at Dice, feels like 0 to me.

I cant even be arsed to play it.

Two former employees who I’m friends with have repeatedly told me “No-one works there anymore. Everyone left”.

Lead gameplay designers, lead multiplayer producer, senior art director, senior QA staff… the list goes on. They had a huge talent drain from that studio over the last few years and when you couple it with the guy who was responsible for FIFA Ultimate Team being put in charge of overseeing the franchise this is the result. The majority of people that made Battlefield BC2, 4, 1 and to a lesser extent 5 are no longer there, I’ve reliably been told.

I don’t think 2042’s a total disaster and there’s still some chaotic large-scale fun to be had because jumping in a heli with your mates and fucking shit up is always gonna provide a certain thrill but yeah it isn’t a patch on the likes of BF4 or 1. Nowhere near. Those games are bona fide 10 out of 10 experiences for me, true classics that I put hundreds and hundreds of hours into. This never got above a 7 in the 20 or so hours that I played it.

Bugs and missing features are one thing, I sadly expect that from a DICE game at launch and they can be fixed - although charging people £100 for early access to such a shoddy release is a joke whichever way you cut it - but the map and objectives design hasn’t catered to 128 players well at all, it too often just descends into a directionless and chaotic morass of a meat grinder across bizarrely wide open spaces and I’d take the class system over Specialists any day of the week.

There isn’t a single person who when playing previous Battlefield games said to themselves “Hey, you know what would really make this game better? Jettisoning the class system and turning it into a hero shooter”. The whole thing feels like it’s been designed to promote individualistic playstyles and the ability to create ‘sick Twitch clip bro’ moments rather than the beautiful emergent examples of tactical squad play that were the series’ hallmark. Those are fundamental issues baked into the foundational design of the game that I don’t see being rectified satisfactorily.

The really sad thing for me is that Battlefield as a series had always ploughed its own bold furrow and stood apart as a unique, innovative take on the multiplayer shooter. 2042 feels like a game grasping for its own identity, an incoherent grab-bag of mechanics and features from other more successful titles shoehorned into a facsimile of a Battlefield game in order to create an experience that is geared towards maximising the opportunity for monetisation and MTX profits. I’m genuinely gutted at how it turned out. ☹️

Press F to pay your respects

I really wanted this to be my go to. Played the tutorial on the ten hour pass can could smell the stench of raw dogshit this game was eminating. Luckily I just deleted it. But others succumbed 100 pounds for this sweet treat.

The weapon bloom (where your bullets go) makes the game utterly unplayable.

There's plenty of videos out there showing it. Bullets not hitting, going all over the place. Basically the single most important thing in a shooting game and they fucked that also. It's the biggest single thing they need to fix. Out of the 8 games I have played it was there in over half of them.

There's been a patch of about 1.3gb deployed (Xbox, ps5 is about similar).

Just another 50gb to go then.

I wanted to like this and quite enjoyed the beta but there’s no way I’m using my 10 hour trial based on this thread. I never really played 1 and V and hoped this would be the one to get back into :(

Gave this one final go this morning and just couldn't stand it. Uninstalled it for now. Will check back in around April 2022 when it should hopefully be finished.

Same here. I still have 4 hours left on my trial but simply had enough. It’s the least enjoyable Battlefield game I have played.  Removing the traditional scoreboard is so bizarre. I know it’s insignificant in terms of the gameplay but what did they do to the theme music in this (traditionally epic), it’s bloody awful. The whole design behind this is off and it’s such a disappointment. The only way I can see me giving this another go is when it eventually makes it way to Gamepass Ultimate via EA Play but even then I might not bother.

Well.....it seems to have improved quite a bit today for me.

Even better when I realised after you change the button mapping....you need to select custom as your control scheme...a week....wasted....grapple hook now on R1, game changer.

And flight controls, found a setting that makes it almost like BF4...alternate on buttons.

Also realised how bloody good proximity sensors are, wee vid I quickly made to show my wee bro.

Anyway, I am loving it.

Yeah the proximity sensor is brilliant, if not a little over powered, I couple that with the sentry gun as that spots enemies too and it's rare people get the drop on me now....

I'm one rank from getting the next specialist so will give her a try this evening maybe but on the whole i'm enjoying the game, it's a bit too frustrating to play on your own though. Definitely had my best games with a squad!

The change to the tickets on Breakthrough hasn't worked; the issue on some maps wasn't that the attacking force didn't have enough tickets, it's that the maps are poorly balanced and some specific flags are nigh on impossible to take unless it happens very, very quickly.

Doubling the tickets just doubles the time it takes the attackers to lose.

I hear this battlefield now has a back end that means the devs can balance stuff on the fly without having to realise a patch. I bet that’s where most of the work has gone.
