I agree with the above. It's still the same gameplay as battlefield years ago, nothings changed or moved on.

Even on a technical level. This is the same as 4.

You honestly would never know this was a 20 year old franchise made by the same studio.

I hope the UI changes quite drastically for the full release, because right now it is horrible and not working very well. Why does changing my grip also change my sight. Why does it say that I can show the network-graph but nothing appears.

Right now my two main issues are the UI and the net code. I can probably live with them not fixing the first but they really need to do something about that net code. This morning I had an enemy move like a bunny on LSD. Try to hit that with a slow moving LMG. It is also more or less impossible to differ friend from foe up close because the the enemy model seems to update only once every second.

Yeah, there's a real issue with both armies having the exact same models. I'm assuming this is a beta thing and there are actually "opposite" armies in the final game.

Played some more of it. It's Battlefield, but back in a near future setting. I'm ok with that.

This map reminds me of Golmund Railway; large open expanses with not much between them. It lacks the infantry friendly areas, and that makes it very painful to play. I don't think the verticality of the map is of much use here - it's just three large structures and space inbetween. I can see it being fun in breakthrough/frontlines/rush though.

The game itself, with numbers of players and competencies, is already settling down a bit. There are some nice choke points where I thought there were none, but also some missed opportunities - the tunnel through the mountain pass being one. It...exists? It doesn't really create any fun though.

I'm excited to see the other maps, and game modes, in action. Conquest is my least favourite mode in these wide open wars of attrition, but that's true of every Battlefield ever. This beta is a hit for me, but the map and game mode are not.

Dunno if it's the map, the classes or the general flow but this beta is the least Battlefield "feel" there has ever been.

It's hard to explain, but you don't get that same flow.

I'm just looking forward to people making BFBC 2 servers via portal.

Im optimistic for the full game but also worried. For online shooters I only play one game but if Halo is as good as some are saying then that might get most of my time.

*Also, didn't the BF community want a return to 4?

This and Halo seem to be on opposite trajectories. Halo everyone was super-pessimistic about but the previews have really truned around the anticipation for that game, while this had decent early buzz but you can feel it evaporating the more and more people, who aren't Battlefield devout faithful follwers come rain or shine, play it.

4 man squads is annoying, I play in a group of 5

I played 2 full rounds today, the gfx glitches are embarrassing.  why use a 6 month old build? should be last weeks FFS.

Mostly found I was dying a lot, constantly.  I'm pretty rusty at the moment as I've only been playing Fortnite for my shooter fix. Need to regain some speed!

The last battlefield I played and was into was 4. I quite like this but have just been going in on my own, I imagine it’ll be better as a group but have enjoyed it so far, not seen many bugs, the main graphical ones seem to have been shadows going wild

This is fucking appalling. It's like they modelled it on Frontlines: Fuel of War or another of those mid-2000s online Battlefield rip offs. If this was free to play I'd give it an evening before I dumped it. Fuck paying money for it.

While I'm not feeling as melodramatic as some in here it's confirmed that big team battles aren't for me. I can see past the glitching models, odd animation, strange lighting and all that surface nonsense but the key selling point of 128 person battles isn't something I'm interesting in. If they add another mode or smaller map before the end I'll give it a go but I've no interest in it at all from this slice of it.

I would like to know how last gen are finding it. They only have 64 players and the map is much smaller.

I bet its much better. I'm tempted to download the normal xbox version just to have a gander.

Tried to play some of this today but the sky kept strobing like we were at a rave or something and made me feel ill, so I sacked it off.

A stark contrast to the polished fun of the Halo Infinite technical test.

Played some more of this yesterday and it’s getting less fun each game. I’m interested in seeing reviews and at exactly which level of chaos this will launch.

Edit: I was so far off the mark in my first comment. This feels nothing like BF4. Went back for a couple of games this morning and it’s night and day, at least compared with this map & mode.

Ugh, god, pre-order cancelled. EDIT: I haven't, I meant that jokingly related to the server issue above

Played some more games last night. The core of this is solid, but my biggest fear is that the map doesn't demonstrate any real subtlety in terms of design. I'll need to play alternative game types on it, but there are a few key examples on this map that are just sub-par. Take, for instance:

  • The sheer number of silly sniper nests dotted around (wheee zipline demo!)
  • B1 is just a helicopter slaughter fest that isn't particularly interesting to attack on foot (and takes flipping ages to get there)
  • The vehicle tunnel between C1 and D2, a dull and featureless alternative route that exists purely to get vehicles through but not offering any interesting alternative attack vector or defence mechanisms
  • The foot tunnel between D2 and D1 is just a meat grinder for the purposes of having a meat grinder, and to offer some cover from the army of snipers at B1
  • The route from B1 to E1 (the rocket track) is just the largest, most featureless and bland section of a map I've ever witnessed.
  • The multitude of identikit warehouse units. BF4 had plenty of these, but there was variety.

This should be the Hanang Dam of the game, but it's not. I hope the other maps are significantly better, and I can see me actively avoiding this one in rotation.

Im very tempted to cancel my pre-order. Part of me thinks "Its a beta, and 1 shit map. Will be much better on release and silly to judge right now" then another part thinks "this will be fucked on release, BF games always are. Then they get good 6 months later".

See, its hard to say, i can have one game and it runs great, no major bugs and im having a blast and then the next its a total mess and nigh on unplayable. The hits not registering is infuriating as fuck.

Had a few goes on this and I don't think it's for me - I really don't find it much fun, and I can excuse bugs for a beta test but I dunno - it feels a bit like a chore to play.

Not a patch on the Halo Infinite flights over the past few weekends.  I know they're different beasts, but I don't really think I have the time to sink into 2 FPS multiplayer games these days!

I mean a lot of those are really simple fixes and could have already been resolved and could actually be avoided in game -

Sniper nests, I think this is the first of the battlefield's where i've hardly noticed sniper's, for me that's a good thing.

B1 - Yes I agree but in the opposite direction of BFV you can actually take down air support now, a good pilot in BFV was near impossible to kill, in this you have options (we don't have all the gear yet) but you can shoot out the pilot, use the launchers on them or even the LMG's.

Vehicle tunnel, yes but it wouldn't take much to put some obstacles in there to create cover etc. As for it not providing alternative options for attack and defense i'd say that's down to the players... It's an option, whether player's use it as an option is up to them

Foot tunnel errrm so? Some people like the option of a meat grinder.... It's also quite fun in that you can turn off the lights and I even saw someone turn them off, slingshot over the top of the enemies to behind and take them all out whilst they were firing at me ^_^

B1 to E1, i'll give you that, there isn't much there but again easy fix, throw in some destroyed planes etc like aerodrome on BF5

Errrm the warehouses, I'm not sure how many there are so won't comment.

It's a map that requires some changes but to judge a game based on a map that's likely not finished with it being a 6 month old build seem's a bit short odd to me ^_^ Aren't there 6 other new maps? Couldn't one of them be the Hanang Dam?

@Ry that would make more sense, battlefield games have alway's been known for being much better 6 months after release ^_^ So wouldn't blame you on that one.

Yeah I'm having trouble extracting much enjoyment from this as well. It's hard to tell whether it's just because I'm just dying way more than killing, but when I think back to when Battlefield 1 came out - it was just awesome and satisfying to play right from the get-go. I've had so much fun with the earlier games, even if I'm not doing that well, and even if I'm playing solo. Even the few times I've played BFV when it came to Game Pass felt great, even though the maps didn't seem as good and it was hard to see enemies.

And, as people have said, it's night and day compared to the hilarity of the Halo Infinite big team battle test last weekend. It's funny - after Halo 3 I migrated wholesale over to COD (MW1 and 2) and Battlefield BC2 and Battlefield 3/4 in the 360 era, and barely touched Halo Reach, 4 or 5. But suddenly Halo seems to be back and way more fun than the new Battlefield.

Sorry, updated my post - have not cancelled my pre-order, it was a joke regarding the post above it.

You're right on every point, and I'm hopeful. In DICE I trust.

My bad :D I can never judge things online very well! I need facial features and hand gestures!

Yeah I mean I'm not saying they will resolve every issue mind, they are not perfect by any means, just I'm keeping a fairly upbeat tone about stuff at the moment so I'm staying more optimistic about this at the moment.

I have enjoyed the gunplay more than I thought it would (I'm quite a big fan of BFV though it's not to a lot of traditional battlefield player's tastes) and I'm not such a big fan of BF4 which in my eye's this is just a modern BF4. It is as some have said nothing revolutionary, I've only experienced the tornado once which was a bit disappointing (i'm hoping for more destruction on city based maps etc).

I am interested to see what controls they put in for the robot dog, it showed the symbol to say you could order it but it didn't allow you to do anything, was disappointed that they took away the comms wheel and I do quite the squad leader perks of BFV so I'm hoping there's something similar here.

The other thing is, I couldn't build anything, I liked that aspect of BFV, is that gone entirely does anyone know?

I can’t say that I liked much about it when I played last night. I thought the the UI was horrible and the lack of map baffling. The actual map seemed way too big and I think that the near future setting, complete with robo dogs, is fairly terrible. It’s not a game for me, and I loved BF4.

Just do Battlefield Bad Company 2 HD.

In BF4 rush was my go-to mode. Playing this was just painful. Might come back in 6 months as is always in my mind the best time with Battlefield.

Contrary to the popular view here, I'm all in on this now. It has its issues, but over all I'm loving it. The cross play can be turned off in game (at least in the beta) and we were getting mostly full lobbies of xbox players every match.

  • Helicopter controls are the worst flight controls I've ever used in any game.
  • It's buggy as fuck at the moment.
  • I like the sound direction of the guns.
  • The map is massive, but it forces you to play differently than what you're used to. Instead of capping A, then off to F, then off to D etc, it's so big, pick a small area and work on making a difference there. If you like infantry, focus on B/D. Vehicles? F. Mix of both? A & C.
  • Not sure on the weapon customisation. Have they taken the whole thing out and just replaced it with the + system?
  • As with previous BF games, it's semi enjoyable when alone. Absolutely loving playing it as a whole squad with my pals though.

I hope there is a hardcore mode released at some point. Loved that shit on BF4.
