1899 - From the makers of Dark

Dark was a big hit, so its creators Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar are back with Netflix with another show. It's set in 1899, around a group of migrants from around Europe and maybe further sailing to America. Their ship encounters another migrant ship adrift and...something mysterious they're not going into details on happens. It'll be multilingual with the multinational cast speaking their native tongues.

 

 

It's filmed on a virtual "Volume" set, familiar to those in The Mandalorian thread. Friese and Odar actually had this built themselves, at Babelsberg studios in Germany, and set up their own company to operate it, on the back of this and Netflix committing to shooting more stuff on it. It's currently Europe's largest version of the tech.

Not sure, actually. Trailer suggests it’s in English but no idea.

I still need to watch Dark season 2 but it's been ages since I watched season 1 and I'll be completely lost.

I made it to Dark Season 3 and then tapped out. It got both stupidly convoluted and lost all meaningful sense of narrative as a result.

 

Looking forward to two amazing seasons of this and doing the same again.

The wife and I are just at the end of the first season of Dark which we are loving, brilliant stuff. So hopefully we can finish of the next two seasons and be ready for this.

I’m one episode in. There’s not a lot to think about so far, other than it being wonderfully shot (as expected).

Thought Ep1 an overly-dark, try-hard soufflé of oh-so-mysterious characters, subliminal imagery and massively irritating sound design and musical choices. Tell me it gets a lot better, as that was crap.
