Sounds like it’s gonna be Ratchet & Clank centric plus a couple of indies.

I’m not interested in Ratchet & Clank at all but I am interested in getting pissed up to any and all sorts of game trailer style showcase “events” alongside my Rllmuk bredren.

See you in here then.

You should update the title to reflect that it’s mainly focused on one properly shite looking game, it’s pretty disappointing as is.

First post covers that. The ambiguity of the title is intended to ensnare more curious pissheads to the event, regardless of the content. I also have zero interest in Ratchet & Clank, which looks like a complete headache of a game. I’ll be getting pissed up in order to dull the pain.

If Sifu and Stray are there, it could all be worth it.

Ratchet & Clank shite looking is certainly a take. It's probably the best-looking game I've ever seen.

+ It has pretty impressive graphics.

-  It is a Ratchet and Clank game.

What's wrong with being a R&C game? They're perfectly fine games. People are acting like these are some awfully designed games or so.

Also, 'pretty impressive' is an understatement.

I think pretty impressive is accurate. It's got very nice boxes full of stuff around the small playable area, but I don't think they're any more attractive than Destiny's boxes around the small playable area. They don't look that different to the ones in the PS4 Ratchet and Clank games, which are pretty impressive for PS4 games.

But yeah, when I said it looked shit I obviously meant because Ratchet and Clank games are shit to play. It's a series that hasn't meaningfully evolved since the PS2. I guess you could describe them as "perfectly fine" but that's not exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for to carry a presentation about why I should buy a £500 console. I played three or four of them with my kids when they were younger and the repetition and boredom set in about half an hour into the first one.

Just for clarity it's ratchet and clank game - ps4 as there haven't been more than 1 game on the ps4 has there?

I want to like ratchet and clank but if the new game is anything like the last one (which I finished) or the previous ones (I have dabbled very briefly) then it’s not for me. The gameplay is just rubbish because it feels so floaty and there’s no impact with the weapons.

Little devil inside….I think that’s what it’s called? And Stray would make a very welcome appearance.

Play them on Hard.

R&C feel great on the stick and on Hard they offer a decent challenge.

I really can't think of any game looking better than this in terms of pure visual fidelity. The character models, the IQ, the sheer amount of effects, the lighting... it's gorgeous.

As a game I'm more interested in Returnal, but this is a hell of a looker.

The amount of bolts etc. flying around the screen on PS4 was very impressive so I imagine the effects in this are going to be amazing.

That’s what I did and thought the PS4 game offered a decent challenge without being punishing, basically just very enjoyable to play with the excellent voice acting, production etc.

I have no idea, I played them with my kids on the PS3 years ago. I saw a video of a PS4 one at some point which was quite nice looking but seemed to just be the same game again.

This Ratchet and Clank backlash is like when I found out people hated Gremlins/Ghostbusters/Terminator 2. You're all weird.

Is it? Those moves are stone cold classics, beloved by adults and children, bought up years later as examples of great film making. Ratchet and Clank is garbage. If we're comparing it to a film it's more like Baby's Day Out, fun for the kids but nobody seriously thinks it's good. And this is Baby's Day Out 13.

Checks out. :P

Nah but seriously, is anyone excited by Ratchet & Clank? I played a bit of the PS4 game, and I’d like to go back to it eventually, but it was a lot of shooting and not much in the way of interesting platforming.

Cartoon platformers are fine in principal, and Insomniac have clearly been working their talented little butts off recently, but I think there’s a reason only Mario generates real interest in the genre.

I got burnt out on the Ratchet games when they came out on the PS2 six years ago because I didn't leave enough time between them and they definitely did follow a formula back then. Well made games but they weren't as interesting as the Sly Coopers games which got a bit more time between releases.

I don't often enjoy shooting in games in general, which is a big reason why I'll likely not bother with Ratchet & Clank; it's also out only a few days after Guilty Gear Strive and seems a likely candidate for PS+ sometime down the line.

It does look very impressive in the trailers though.

The PS4 R&C was a huge downgrade of the previous games, and the PS3 titles don't quite match the bar set by the PS2 titles. Outside of visual fidelity I'd say the PS4 game is inferior to the PS2 original in just about every metric.

In what way, I really enjoyed the PS4 game recently but haven’t played the PS2 games (or any others) to compare it to?

Weapons have far more creative application and variety (Taunter, Visibomb etc) and this is largely built around the knowledge that a proper strafe isn't in the game. While I enjoy the changes made in 2 onwards to accommodate that style of action, 1 at least designs a lot of its encounters around creativity and not outright run and gun (the Tesla Claw being one of the last weapons you unlock and bypasses the need to centre on an enemy is almost like a reward in a sense).

The levels have a far greater degree of openness and really push some ideas in a satisfying way. Multiple paths, secrets aplenty and some novel ones like the Blarg homeworld where you first play as Clank then return as Ratchet once you acquire an O2 mask. You even get early forays into more open levels like Pokitaru where there is the ocean to explore for hidden paths and treasure.

A larger amount of unique characters that help add flavour to the universe it's creating. Pretty much every planet has at least one if not more characters exclusive to it that give R&C something to bounce off of and further their relationship. For that matter, there's an actual arc to their characters in the original whereas the remake strips them down into hollow shells.

The big one though is the soundtrack. It's a crime that they decided to push for a faux-epic movie score to the newer games when the OG has track after track of absolute bangers.

I still got a kick from the PS4 game (namely having multiple weapons operating at once made me feel properly powerful) but it pales in comparison.
