Really looking forward to this. I hope someone does go for the 5k tier as I think that’d be a beautiful end to this. Dom has said in the past he regrets how he acted back then and that’s not who he is now so I think it’d be nice to end it on a happy note and a silly tattoo. 
 

I know a lot of people put down Dave here, especially with all the Games Animal stuff and the recent YouTube channel but from my limited online interactions with him he is a nice guy, knows he’s being a bit silly with all this and I guess from both him and Dom they both love their time on GM but they have moved on from it and have gone on to other things they both enjoy.

This looks good. I loved their Bitmap Bros book so I’m tempted. Straight £30 for the book though for me. £20 extra for Dominic’s signature!? I can just imagine him scribbling his name out each time and saying  ‘there’s another £20 smackers!’

When you put it that way, it’s insane to pay for the signed copy, isn’t it? I’d never pay £20 for Dominik Diamond’s autograph normally. Most authors autograph their books for free; if you saw him in the street, he’d be a twat to charge you for signing the book. 
 

Thank you for the reality check. Lockdown has clearly driven me a bit giddy.

I guess you have to ask how much is Dom getting out of this? Firstly kickstarter fees are 10% of the total. Then the book has creation costs let along the costs of the team writing and formatting the book. And is the extra £20 going to Dom or being split?

 

If you went to meet him at say comic con he’d charge for an autograph as all celebs do and if you follow the guy he isn’t some super wealthy celeb, he’s mostly like me and you with a family and just doing jobs to keep his family going. So I don’t begrudge it and of course the choice is there too.

Yeah, I’m not saying the additional £20 goes straight into the inside pocket of Dominik Diamond’s red jacket. It was more the distorted sense of value that meant I was briefly considering paying an additional £20 for a book because it had his signature, despite the fact his autograph wouldn’t be worth that much to me in any other context.

Been playing around with some fancy AI update tools with the best quality rips I could find online. I used a VHS copy of a TV commercial from S1 to S2 to get some results. I only have an i5 but it was around 12 minutes to do 2 mins 27 seconds of footage. These are the results so far, the one on the left is the original file and the right is the update, does look better in motion obviously:

I'll be honest I'm not sure if its worth doing but I do have every episode downloaded and tempted to do something with the lot, even if its just a set of printed DVD's for myself.

 

I could just do the final as that will have been ripped from the original DVD that was given away free with the mag years ago so much higher quality file from what I can see. I have no idea what I'm doing, just poking around.

Somewhat tangentially, Dominic Diamond is the guest on the latest episode of Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast, talking about the book and other things.

 

So, good if you want to know what’s in the book without buying it. ;)

There's a lot of "obviously I'd say buy the book but I've got to tell you this one" in there. 

 

Not heard Dominik Diamond talk about anything for about a decade and it's sort of reassuring to hear he hasn't really changed that much, he still has that 90s post-modern-ironic style of presentation, he's still garrulous to the point of near irritating, he is candid about how much of a twat he was in the 90s whilst still retaining a bit of that twattishness in a self-aware kind of way. He swung between irritating and entertaining throughout, I got the impression Richard Herring wasn't sure what to do at in the face of Dominik's high-energy banter at times.

I know what you mean. When he started laying into Stuart Lee for no apparent reason! Must be harbouring resentment about him destroying the golden joystick. Absolutely cringe-inducing, but he’s just so entertaining to listen to you have to let it slide a bit.

Yeah it was a good listen, agree with everyone’s comments about how he’s still entertaining/annoying in equal measure. 
 

Was shocked when he said about his own mother, whom he gave a job to (working class lad done good), but he was so coked up that, when his mom told him to lay off the coke, he fired her!

 

I mean you could see now he’s pretty appalled with hisself and makes no attempt to excuse the act, but still, jeez…

I listened to Herring / Diamond podcast the other day, and man alive, it's funny but also utterly exhausting. He's pretty full-on as it is, I can barely imagine what he must have been like in the nineties when he was doing yards of coke at every opportunity. Some slightly uncomfortable vibes at times too, like when DD keeps making jokes about Herring's testicular cancer, or when he "jokingly" flies off the handle when Herring suggests he could be in any new series of Gamesmaster as a gremlin. Even if he wasn't so open about it, you can see how he would have burned a lot of bridges in the nineties / early noughties.  

 

Still, he is very self-aware and pretty funny. And that Brian Jacks story genuinely shocked me.

We did it. Firmly displaying a proud middle finger to the supply chain deities, copies of GamesMaster: The Oral History arrived as promised at our warehouse last Thursday and are now being shipped out far and wide across the land. Expect yours to land very soon in all its metallic green glory – and when it does I hope you'll pat yourself on the back for making such a glorious project happen. We're all still overwhelmed at the outpouring of love for the programme that was shown when we funded the book – we hope it rekindles the joy of watching the show and provides many happy hours of entertainment.
