Discord is going through a sales process now that could result in a purchase of the communications and chat platform for much more than $10 billion, GamesBeat has learned.

Two sources familiar with the matter said that Discord is exploring its options for a sale in the wake of interest from multiple parties that want to buy the company. And one source said the company has signed an exclusive acquisition discussion with one party, meaning it is in final negotiations about a sale. This news comes after Discord raised $140 million in December at a $7 billion valuation (based on data found by Prime Unicorn Index

So, who do you think it is?

Think of all the possibilities of improving absolutely nothing. Remember how Microsoft bought Skype only to practically do nothing with it.

I was talking to my OH and she reckons that was all to do with the back end and data stuff, lots of business flannel.

Microsoft still rank slightly lower on the tier of bastards than other potential buyers like Amazon or Facebook so that's a positive.

Teams is still utter shite, I wonder how bad it would be without Skype tech.

Webuy for 10 billion
Wesell for 50 billion

Been dipping my toe in a couple of shmups discords over the last week.

People unironically (as far as I can tell) discussing who their favourite cave "waifu" is.

Some bloke insinuating that he was off the masturbate to some cartoon children.

Some lad goes "woah there mate, nip the noncery in the bud, aye?"

So the mods stepped in.

To silence the guy complaining.

Yeah, don't think I'm gonna stick around.

Big Discord servers are a nightmare, but it's amazing for keeping in touch with small groups and working on projects

Everyone saying this is the death for Discord - it can't be just me that sees the complete opposite?

My colleagues are mostly PC players and we like to chat while we play but I'm on Xbox.

Now that there's a lot of cross platform games between PC & Xbox this means my mates don't have to leave their Discord room and take their bigger voice conversation to the Xbox app and it means I can still be involved in a larger voice chat.

I find this news really exciting!

If they stick to the post Mattrick way of doing things I absolutely think it's a good thing. I can't see them squandering something that's got a userbase like Discord, especially for $10b. Still this is massive corporation nonsense we're talking about.

My big concern would be that Mattrick represented what all the non-Xbox parts of Microsoft were like, and still are like. A lot will swing on whether this is a Microsoft or Xbox product.

I agree, but I'm hopeful that whatever culture shift has happened in the Xbox division over the last decade or whatever has to have pervaded to some degree to the rest of the company. It just seems like that way of working absolutely doesn't work any more, or at least someone's aware it's not going to work for much longer.
