Super Bomberman R Online - 64 player battle royale

They really need to change this so that you don’t drop back to the main menu every single time you finish a match, they also need to sort the load times out as it is maddening (especially when you’re shit at the game like me).

 

Seems petty to be moaning like this about a free game but I can see myself leaving this until it’s patched, if ever.

I've been on it alot today, well, maybe 20 matches? That's alot for me, but totally agree, it's got it's hooks in me but every time the loading takes a little too long I'm thinking what else I could be doing.

It's a big difference between this and Pac-Man 99. As soon as Pac-Man finishes, I'm hitting the 'play again' button. As soon as I'm dead in Bomberman then I'm powering off the Switch. I do like the game, but those loading times absolutely kill the replay. On the positive, it feels a bit faster to load today than yesterday...?

Nah, you can turn the cross platform off in the options and the loading times are still stupidly long with the added bonus of the searching for game phase taking longer. :(

Just had a night of this, bit annoying that to have a private lobby you need premium but sucked the eight quid myself) and had 25 mates playing on various platforms using Xbox chat (easy as most of us were on it anyway , off platform folk using the app) and had an utterly hilarious brilliant night.
I know private lobbies are a hard sell and diffiicult for lots of people to arrange but its so worth it, we did the same with Fall Guys last week too.

Worth mentioning too, when you play private matches you can play in 3 modes

Standard is up to 16 on a single board, this is brilliant madness.

Grand Prix (sorry no idea what this is, some sort of team mode)

Batlle 64 - up to 64 players as in the quick match mode, divided into 4 player boards, you can play with less.

 

It's a bit annoying to set up as you have to open "slots" to get people in and they must all be filled before you can start (so you need to close empty slots before you begin)

A but of a faff but easy enough to manage

Do you get more challenges? Yesterday I had one: break 50 blocks, today it was to place 80 bombs, both are over and done with really quickly so there's no real incentive to keep playing once they're done with (I don't have the bombpass yet as I have a habit of buying these things and then not touching the game again for the rest of the season)

Loading times have killed this for me. Spending 10 minutes *after* the loading bar has filled before the game actually starts? No thanks.

 

That and the magically warping bombermen who pass through walls, drop a bomb either side of you, then escape back through the wall? The game is fucked.

The UI has broken on me a few times, on PS4, everything blows up so only get a quarter of the HUD and options, I have to quit out the game completely to fix it

That's a special ability for one of the characters that you need to purchase. It feels to me like that might be slightly unbalanced, but I've yet to face it to know for sure. I may well buy the Pass regardless, but I dislike how I may have to play specials in order to stand a chance. The worst one seems to be Pyrmaid Head's "Die if you touch me" ability, which is every kind of broken!

There's two purchase options I think, the bomb pass, which just unlocks cosmetics and the premium unlock which unlocks the added characters and private matches.

 

I think they've also pulled the trick where the tiers of coins you need to buy the bomb pass aren't quite enough to buy the pass (I think you can buy 700 and it costs 800)

I've been seeing loads of ads for this, got quite excited, thinking: ooh, has Saturn Bomberman's 10 player mode been usurped?

 

Nope. From what I can tell in the videos, the max number on screen is 8, just like it's been in every preceding version.

 

Am I correct in this? One video only showed 7 players, and some random place online said 6 per screen. I don't have the game so can't check. It's 8, right? It's not 64 at all is it?

 

I miss Saturn Bomberman.
