It's back. And it seems to be a bit more geared towards the level of seriousness on display in an actual D&D campaign. :) (Nice Dead Cells reference there.)

 

Hope this is good, I could use a new Gauntlet-like.

 

[edit] Swapped former trailer with platform neutral trailer, this is being released on PS4, PS5, Steam, Xbone X, XSX, and XSS.

Interested in this one, too. I enjoyed the old Baldurs Gate Dark Alliances - simple fun in multiplayer. Lots of fun to be had farming gemstones and making ludicrously powerful weapons.

Very excited to see a new Dark Alliance game, but slightly disappointed to see that it doesn't use a top-down view. I realise that was down to technical limitations in the original, but it was also a huge part of the original games' charm.

I got the impression from the Eurogamer preview that the player characters are pre-canned too which is a shame, would have preferred some level of authorship over it. I guess the more third person view and fixed starting characters are to give them more control over the narrative/cutscenes and make the whole thing a bit more cinematic.

I don't imagine I'll be the only one to go through this process, so to save anyone else:

 

1. Ooh, new Dark Alliance! Can't wait!

2. Not sure about the presentation or new perspective, but hey, it's been ages since we had a mainstream gauntletalike! Looking forward to playing this with a friend, lockdown permitting!

3. I'll just see what other sites have to say about it...

4. No local coop. And thus, no longer any interest.

I mean, I would like local co-op, but it's not like I have people round to play games anymore, even before the pandemic. The people I used to play BG:DA with live on opposite sides of the country to me anyway, so I'm happy with online co-op.

The DA-side of things was a lot more... loose? But flipping the bird is definitely a new high/low. As said it kind of fits in with some of the more combat-focused D&D tabletop campaigns I've experienced, so I wouldn't call it a bad thing, but I can imagine it being weirdly aloof for those who don't play the RPG itself. Just shown it to my all-dwarves-and-one-halfling campaign group currently rummaging through Phandalin and everybody's ecstatic.

 

If you're waiting for Baldur's Gate III, this simply might not click.

 

As for online co-op only, meh, I call that a bit of a plus in these trying times.

It wasn't really a comedy game (the tone of the story and cutscenes in BG:DA was pretty reverent to D&D lore) but it was invariably hilarious to play with other people - any co-op session always descended into chaotic madness, so while I'm not a huge fan of the style of the trailer, it doesn't seem inappropriate.

I can't wait for this even though I am sure it will be bobbins.
massive fan of the source material, I've been waiting for a game with these heroes for 20 years.
It will be nothing like the Baldurs Gate games of old but Im fine with that, looks more like the pretty cack but fun coop 360 beat em up LOTR: War in the North.

I'm honestly amazed this is even on gamepass!?!  it looks ...terrible...

 

congrats to the dev who has managed to take a previously known and liked game...and create what looks to be a steaming turd!

 

Wonder how long MS have to keep this on GP

It does look absolutely awful. I was expecting something a bit clunky, and the trailers had made me worry about the presentation side of things, but I didn't expect the actual game to be so fundamentally unfinished.

It's probably the first time I've seen something so genuinely awful on gamepass, they seem to curate the service very well in general - plenty of games I've not enjoyed but they're usually well executed and good enough that someone will enjoy it.
