Question: I’ve heard there’s issues about frame rate and so on – do the main game segments run better than the open overworldy bit in Sword/Shield?

Overall I’d say the framerate is more stable then SwSh ever was. 30 fps is what it maxes out at with quite a few dips. But I’d say this is of a higher technical then it’s predecessor. Best achievement for GF on the Switch since LGPE.

Holy balls

:blink2:

Is that really that surprising?

I mean AC was a stunning success but a lot of that will have been slow burn from its comparatively unknown brand, slow timing of releasing into a lockdown (which probably massively helped it long term).

This is a new Pokémon game. Was it ever not going to be pretty darn big on day one? How did Diamond/Silver do on physical release? Were those unsuccessful and I'm wide of the mark here?

Whether it's bigger than AC over a year is probably more interesting.

What the duck is up with that Rapidash running around the first area.

I stumbled into it while chasing down an Evee and it just wouldn’t let me run and kept one tapping all Pokémon.

If that wasn’t enough it’s those Red Eyes!

I will eventually come back and kick its ass!

Being released closer to another mainline remake of a very popular entry (BDSP last November) and being released in January make this a surprising result I’d argue. The former could have very well eaten into sales for this and the latter was noticed by Chris Dring before release. Apparantly the game had a late rush in terms of sales due to reviews.

The red eyes mean they're alpha versions, from what I've read in here. Someone who's played the game will be able to explain better. :P

Don't fear the murder horse! It's much more fun to captue it, and have it pop out against your opponent's tiny Togepi. Of course, it won't actually listen to you until you reach 3rd star.

You also might get lucky and it decides to use Wild Charge or Take Down on your team. It can do 4 before it faints due to recoil damage, and you'll get tons of xp gain for your surviving mons. Eventually you'll be going back there daily just for the candy anyway!

It's a bit of a shame seeing the forum overall being a bit quiet on this game. I'd love to hear what some of the earlier commenters in the thread would have said. Negative or positive. It really looks like the poor fidelity is leading people on skipping what's still a damn fine game. Especially as it looks to get even bigger as the year progresses.

Its sold more than animal crossing did in the same period… it’s not being skipped.  We’re just all quietly enjoying it. There’s not much to say other than it’s very very good and it’s all I’m playing just now. It’s a very relaxing game.

daily??? Do the wild eyed things respawn? I’ve got a few of them captured already.

I haven't played many mainline Pokemon games, I saw the credits in let's go Eevee! And did a bit of Shield. I've had much more fun and experience with spin off games. I bought an import copy of Blue back in the day but it wasn't my cup of tea!

This one seems really good so far a few hours in, much more the style of game I'm used to in its 3rd person open world style. I'm playing handheld on the switch OLED and I really like the art style. Perhaps the OLED is intensifying the palette but it doesn't seem at all muddy to me.

For some reason, the walking up a slope animation really tickles me.

I'm now basically avoiding threads for the game that I'm currently playing, I find it's much better for my own enjoyment of the game, and mental health in general.

Some posters - not all - but some, will clog up the thread with the most banal of complaints and love to drive that point over and over and over until I - or someone - feels the need to respond and it's just not good for anyone. It's weird, it doesn't feel like a discusion and more like a series of drive-by compaint dumping, and any light rebuttal just leads to all out war.

I'm sure that someone will point out that it's me that's the problem, but it is what it is.

This has been me with Pokémon threads in general through the last couple of years, sadly. But PLA's reception has been very positive even from the same critical voices. Would have been interesting to hear if some commenters here had the same experience.

Apart from that one stupid design decision, I'm loving this

Personally, I like that they've mixed it up a bit. Adds an element of danger, knowing you might lose some of your satchel items. Remember, it's set in a time where Pokémon are wild untamed monsters!

Do alphas respawn. I fainted the first story one and I'm wondering if I should reload.

That specific one won't, but there is another one nearby that respawns daily should you also take it out, or even if you capture it. It might not be identical, it might even have a better moveset, or be bigger.

There is also now the chance that any random spawn pops up as Alpha. Which is why I'm collecting silly ones like Wurmple, Bidoof, and Starly.
