Honestly, nothing comes close to MiniUI for me on the Miyoo Mini. It’s the only one that could be an official mini console front end.

MinUI had just been brought over to RG35XX. Looks pretty slick but sounds like the actual emulation isn't as far along as GarlicOS

Link please?

Odin Lite is pretty amazing, much better performance than the RP3+. Currently playing kuon ps2 and very happy with performance so far. Still need to tinker with setting up Retroarch but so far so good.

sorry, I was out and about when I posted about it

Don't be silly, thanks for bringing it to my attention. Might be easier to whack it on for bro since it be easier for him to navigate and use.

Yeah, and it should only improve. It seems the hardest thing to do is crack getting something running on it in the first place as they don't really have legit access to do so. It should pick up pace now like Garlic.

After looking at loads of expensive mods and covers, I cheaped out and now protecting the RG35XX in a hard drive protector. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01BE2BATC

Also got one for my mini PC (Quieter3q). Not keen on the colour but it's half the price of anything else without having to go to a car boot sale.

Tempted by an Odin Lite at some point. Those who have a RP3+ and a Steam Deck. Does it accompany them well?

Get an Odin Lite, you're just delaying the inevitable. I had a RP3+, I do like the smaller form factor but I really wanted to love it but it wasn't powerful enough to play certain PS2 titles which the lite just chews through. Of course the Deck would destroy the Lite, but the Deck is too big and pita to set stuff up compared to Android which itself is fiddly but easier due used to Android.

Little tip with the Odin Lite: they’ve started allowing 4PX shipping for the 4GB model, which costs half as much as the DHL option, and mine arrived with no customs charges. So, £188 delivered :)

Was looking at £270/280 when I was pricing it up on IGG once shipping and taxes were taken into account.

I'm fairly indifferent to shaders for the home consoles but I seem to need them for handhelds - can anyone recommend a good template/settings for GBA particularly? Others welcome too but I just can't get happy results myself with that one.

Also, has anyone tried the HDMI output on the Retroid Pocket 3+? I'm wondering if it could replace my Retropie setup. I think I heard it's only 720P but I can probably live with that for retro.

There was Frontend that did ask the shaders and bezels the Android systems, but it is now owned by emudeck end the development is being done in the background. Which is a shame, as I wanted bezels for my Mame stuff

Think I might have a problem…

Also have a Miyoo Mini Plus on order, although that’s not due until April.

Oh yeah, so the Odin Lite arrived today and it’s glorious! Now just need to get all that setup out of the way.

Feels a little too big/heavy/chunky for 16-bit/GBA stuff though. I’ve been playing Metroid Zero Mission on the RP3+ recently, and it might be my new favourite GBA hardware, but I think that’s a little too small for Game Pass/PS Remote Play/DS stuff. Might have to keep them both

@Paulandodo you play the same systems and games across all those devices or certain devices for certain systems?

There must be a lot of crossover.

So yeah, I’m in a bit of a transitional period at the moment

I keep buying them, with the goal of shifting a few, but I’m finding it hard as I love different things about all of them.

Ultimately I’d like one large-ish one for Game Pass/PS Remote Play and some of the tricker systems to emulate (PSP, GC etc), and a smaller one for handheld/16-bit stuff.

Some thoughts:

Spoiler

Miyoo Mini - gorgeous screen, super dinky size, just a beautiful device. Really good for handheld stuff, but the shoulder buttons aren’t the best and the display is a little small for some games.

RG353V - Again, lovely device with a larger screen which is better for other stuff, the shoulder buttons are better and it has sticks for PS1/N64.

RG351P - The best for GBA as the screen is 2 times the res in both directions.

RP3+ - Lovely size and weight, super bright display, better for DC/N64/PSP stuff.

Odin Lite - larger display than RP3+ and more comfortable to hold. Has analog triggers so it’s better for streaming, plus GC/Wii emulation. Might be a bit too big for other stuff though, and it’s not as easy to grab and carry around with you.

Got 351MP, 353P, Odin Lite and the Deck.  Size wise it hits the sweet spot between the gigantic Deck and pocketable Anbernic devices.

Performance wise I've not been as impressed with it as others.  It's not strong enough to do all GC, to do all PS2 games.  You will need to fiddle and sometimes things won't run (big ask, but Rogue Squadron 2 isn't happening).  Deck eats all that stuff for breakfast.

If you've got RP3+ then you can handle android.  Going from emudeck and custom Anbernic firmware was rough.

It's probably the best jack of all trades. There are compromises, but battery life, screen, comfort holding and performance for that price is very difficult to beat.  DC, N64, PSP (aside from maybe a few slow frames on Outrun) and below are great.  Stuff like Gradius V, God Hand and Wind Waker seem to be rock solid.

Put it this way.  I'm going to Japan in a few months.  Odin is first choice.  I'll probably just end up playing 2D games on it.  Just a shame I won't have anything to make full use of the scree...

God I love emulation.  There's even a BSNES core that automatically makes all mode 7 games wide-screen, and some others with some fiddling.

I have spent most of today sorting out my 351 and 552. The 351 I used the link on the previous page for the 128GB image. Thanks for that.

For the 552 there doesnt seem to much in the way of images, so I flashed a new card with the latest amberelec and moved a tonne of roms across from the 351 image. Everything works swimmingly apart from one thing. On all the GBA games(and a few dreamcast) it will not display the media files. I have the correct folders with all the correct names. They all display fine on the 351. Most odd. All mame, Snes, neo geo work fine.

Has anyone seen this before ?

Every time I get a new device for emulation, that's the game I play. Fine choice for widescreen.

I saw the first picture, then got less and less excited.  I'd love something like the GBA SP.  Small, flip, 4:3.  It looks a bit bulky.  Slider analogue sticks.  Then again (aside from doing the numerous revisions all retro portables end up having) Retroid rarely misses.  Maybe it can pack enough grunt to get close to an Odin.

Not a huge fan of that but I probably nab one if the price is right. However, waiting for the next gen when we can eventually play PS3/XBOX 360 games would be amazing.

Ooof, didn’t notice these! I guess that means L3 and R3 are out too?

I think the little black dots near the shoulder buttons are L3 and R3 buttons.

Bought an RG35XX last week but only got around to putting GarlicOS on it today. Still messing around with settings but it's already so much better.

Still considering the tape fix on the dpad. Already done similar on some Switch pro controllers so shouldn't be too much hassle.

yeah its a nice device but looking forward to the miyoo plus myself due to the better d pad and buttons. I played with bro's RG35xx and its much better than the mini I had, 2 sd card slots etc but I just didn't like the feel of the buttons and d pad. I'm no snob by any means but I guess I'm used to the mini for so long that its become the standard for me. However, saying that dusting the RG280V that feels better as well, though probably in my head. However, its a great device and garlicOS is so good too.
