bradigor
My RP3+ still hasn't shipped. Wasn't really expecting to arrive this side of the new year, but a bit annoying it will be even later now.

Try their AliExpress store around 9am UK time. Retro Game chap's recent vid said they update with any new stock about then... I was thinking I might be tempted for one, so looked there one day at that time a week or two after that video was published and there was some available for order.
watusi
Yeah that does work. I’ve been monitoring for a grey one and the transparent and white shell ones have been in stock quite a few times.
Meatball
I shall be joining the RP3+ squad soon, I'm just waiting on shipping. Do you @watusi @rexel1 @Paulando or other owners have any case recommendations? I saw there's an official one, but read comments of it being a too tight fit so pressing the power button and turning it on. I have an RG351 and got a portable hard drive case what fits that spot on, so wondering if there's a similar that's a good fit for the RP3+. Also, what size memory cards are you chaps using? Junker
My Miyoo mini is ace until I need to use the shoulder buttons, I just can’t grip it comfortably. Having said that, everything else about it is wonderful and I can put up with its shortcomings due to how dinky and cute it is. I’m kind of obsessed with old school scrolling beat’em ups so the simple nature of them and the short chunky stages suits this perfectly as I can use the save state to dip in and out a level or two at a time before my hands cramp up, I just played Cadillacs and Dinosaurs all the way through for the first time ever and it was a treat. Quick question- is it worth upgrading to Onion OS or do I just stick with the one it comes with? All the YouTube videos I watch on the subject start with buying a new SD card and reader but I don’t really want to.

I’m still hunting for a case as well. I’ve got a 256gb card in mine. I will never fill it as I prefer to have a few games on the go and then build the library up, rather than everything for every system. …I’ve actually just tried an original official soft case for my vita and that fits it perfectly.

I have the official case, not sure why as the RP3 plus probably won't ever leave the house. I've just tested this and its true, if the RP3 is pushed into the case fully it turns on! It still fits in without being pushed in as the case is pretty deep and there's a velcro "strap" which can be used to hold it in place. I'd look for alternates TBH.

watusi
Oh and I have a 200GB card in mine but I'm really using mine only for DC, PSX, PSP, Saturn and NDS using the dedicated emulators. I found the setup to be a bit of a pain and quickly decided to keep older systems on my anbernic devices (splitting systems out was always my goal)

Depends what you intend to get for PS2/GC/PSP/3DS...it's them ones that blow up in size. Reddit says that Amazon do a line of calculator cases to fit the Texas Instruments TI-83 and TI-84 which fit perfectly. I haven't tried one but it's on my radar for the rare occasions where my RP3 leaves the house. https://www.amazon.co.uk/XBERSTAR-Texas-Instruments-Graphing-Calculators/dp/B01LW56GQW/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=X1LqT&content-id=amzn1.sym.e4ce053e-e116-421c-a2c5-3e338df469c8&pf_rd_p=e4ce053e-e116-421c-a2c5-3e338df469c8&pf_rd_r=Z2BY88MXMPYDBR39YSRZ&pd_rd_wg=ZTkWG&pd_rd_r=7f141beb-549f-442d-b821-d322233a0e21&ref_=pd_gw_ci_mcx_mi

Most of the time I can't even work out how to drop back to the emulator menu. i've been struggling a bit to set mine up too, had gba and snes stuff mostly working at one point but couldn't back out of the emulator, then followed a guide to setup the hotkeys in retroarch and must have messed something up as i've made it worse and now the buttons don't work properly in retroarch or in game, i've reset retroarch to defaults and will try again later. got a separate n64 emulator up and running and that seems to be working well, it's great when it's working/setup! touchscreen wasn't working too well on mine either, any small buttons at the bottom of the screen are nearly impossible to press, once it's all setup probably won't need to use the touchscreen much so hopefully won't matter too much... actually think this is fixed now it's been changed back to have the 3 buttons at the bottom rather than the gesture controls for the os. watusi
I gave up mainly because I prefer the form factor of the RG353V and RG353P for handheld and GBA/SNES/MD. The RP3+ is doing fine mainly as a PSP Outrun 2 machine. In other news the AmberElec team have announced they are working on support for the RG353V/P handhelds - which is great news Quote As you've might heard a lot is going on these days. While we are refining our images with new emulators, new updates QOL Additions and fixes, this time we're also working on something new. With some new development regard JELOS dropping their Anbernic ARM support. We're glad to announce that we're working on adding support of the RK3566 Devices. This means RG353V/M/P and later on the 503. We will try to reuse some work of JELOS and integrate it into AmberELEC so the wheel doesn't have to reinvented. As you might already know that AmberELECs philosophy is quite different to other CFWs since our focus will always be bringing the best out of the box experience paired with stability and long term support with an extended testing period. Hence why we don't work with ETAs and no guarantees. So it's done when it's done! Thanks everyone! Without you guys we would not be what we are today!
spatular
Yeah pretty sure if I already had something that worked I'd use that too! Been looking for stuff to get running on it and outrun 2 is a great shout so got that working ok now, had a lot more luck with stand alone emulators. Also, get Daijisho on there, it’s the best front end by a mile. Anything newer than PS1 will use a standalone emulator, but Daijisho launches them automatically.
watusi
Yeah Daijisho is really good. My current set up is Retroarch for GB/GBA/SNES etc via Daijisho and then standalone emulators for PS1/PSP/DC etc - because those emulators have built in rom selectors that work fine. I also have the SNES and PCE emulators from this guy - bought these years ago. They actually work pretty well so I'm mulling over going full standalone emulator for the RP3+ https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=Robert+Broglia&hl=en_GB&gl=US I've finally got retroarch where i need it to be for GB/GBA though, been comparing with my RG353P and thinking of selling the latter given I have an RG353V. Between the V and the RP3 I can cover all my needs.

Quexex
Oh god, I went down a rabbit-hole of Retro portables on Google last night and decided I want a Miyoo Mini V2/V3 not much difference between them from what I've seen. I've got a great stash of ROMs from my hording days ... Two questions - is the Miyoo Mini the best for 16bit retro emulation SNES, MD, CPS2, GBA, PCE? Is it worth going the AliExpress route - what's the import tax etc like? They seem a lot cheaper on their than ebay but after TAX and shipping maybe they are the same (ish). bradigor
They Miyoo is great. Of recommend having a vertical and horizontal system. But that's me. AliExpress are fine for these and I don't remember getting any import taxes on my one last year.
Paulando
The Miyoo is lovely but I do prefer the 353VS or V for 16-bit stuff. The screen is larger and it’s easier to hold. The Miyoo is like a cool little novelty device, but it wouldn’t want one as my only handheld.
AK Bell
A slightly larger but similarly priced device is Anbernic RG35XX now you can run Garlic OS on it making it much nicer. Not too much effort, just whacking files onto a SD Card. It's easier to buy. I've been very tempted despite not needing one. https://www.patreon.com/posts/76561333 It's very bad luck to be stung by Import tax but it can happen. I make sure have some money to one side and keep my fingers crossed. But I avoid it if I can. I think for the cheap price of these devices you could chance it on AliExpress and not get hit too hard.
