Fixed it.  Weird problem.  Here is the dpad.

When I opened case, I had a soft plastic cap drop out.  Like one of these shown on the button mechanism.

Got some tweezers, placed it in the middle of the dpad, under the membrane but on top of the central peg.

Problem seems to be fixed.  If that was originally there I have no idea how it could have got loose, was a pain getting it back on.

Playing through Mega Man (Nes) for the first time on my RG351V. I'm finding the slowdown very annoying. Although this goes against the idea of having accurate emulation, is there a way to remove slowdown via the emulator on this thing? I'm using AmberElec as the OS.

What's my best current bet for up to 16-bit and GBA stuff pls? Will pay a bit more for a nicer screen and controls but I really have no interest in playing N64/PS1/whatever on it.

I have an Anbernic RG350 but I reckon things have moved on a bit since then while I've not been paying active attention.

I'm not sure they've moved on that much for 16-bit and GBA. If I recall correctly the 350 emulated those pretty flawlessly.

I'd say the one advantage of android based systems like the Retroid Pocket 2+ (or a 3 if you want to splash out) is the fact that you can put it to sleep and pick up where you left off later. Other than that, I don't think there's much difference in performance. Happy to be corrected if my memory is off.

See if there's a setting for Sprite Limit in the emulator and turn it off. If that doesn't help you could try romhacking.net for any slowdown removal patches.

On the one hand that's pleasing, but on the other I want to buy a new toy! You're likely right enough about the emulation though. It's little things like the OS being a bit crap, the volume and power controls likewise and the lack of WiFi (I'd like to easily transfer saves from that to other devices) that irk rather than render it obsolete I suppose.

Buy yourself a Miyoo Mini - at the size of a pack of playing cards I've found I take it everywhere with me and I am constantly dipping into various 8 and 16 bit games.

The software Onion OS makes it super quick and easy to flip between multiple games very quickly. I've never once had to think about saving as it just does it effortlessly.

If you want something bigger and less of a faff to get, an alternative is any of the Anbernic 353s depending on what shape or quality you want. It'd probably be easy to get hold of and have turn up before xmas too.

Powkiddy RGB20S would do too, but you'd probably get a superior Miyoo Mini for less.

Maybe a Retroid Pocket 2+ second hand?

I wouldn't really go for anything else too new. They'd either be too powerful and/or widescreen.

A new challenger for Miyoo Mini alternative is this Anbernic RG3XX. Looks similar, performs similar, but a little bit bigger but with a 3.5 inch screen to match.

Sounds like it desperately needs some custom firmware though, the emulators having barebone features, and they've not released the kernel to let that happen (yet?) ...I'd have tried to get one before xmas if it wasn't for that.

Ive been looking at getting one of these, the rg353p looks good, but if you guys arent having to pay customs on the retroid pocket 3+ Its only a little more cost so i guess would be the one to go for?

If you can find one and it's not too marked up in price (and shipping). It's saying "pre-order" on goretroid.com which I assume is their system saying sold out since it was out last month? Otherwise it's the same price on eBay or droix.net (also pre-order) as a (also sold out) Odin Lite at $220+ ...when it should be 150.

What Anbernic has going for it is that they tend to be available and for whatever flaw that model has (and it'll have some quirk) you can get it quick at the right price.

Depends what you want to play. If you're not fussed about (some!) PS2/GC (or some heavy PSP) then there is no need to get a Retroid Pocket 3+ ...it's just good extra value. 353s can do up to N64, surprisingly good Dreamcast and less demanding PSP

If you're not planning on streaming anything like game pass or steam link, then there isn't much use for a widescreen too (PSP is widescreen tho!). If it wasn't for that, I'd be a bit annoyed with my Odin Pro wasting space as I'm not a fan of widescreen hacks. I kind of want a machine for a dedicated not-widescreen aspect ratio.

Has anyone use geekbuying.com before? It's got a v90 on there with free shipping for £33 ... I don't need one, I already have more than one, but that's a hell of a deal for someone's xmas box this year.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah think id be happy with the 353p, but was looking on goretroid where the retroid looks a good price, didnt notice it was a preorder/out of stock, i think i like the idea of good value (if it avoids customs) and the slightly bigger screen (yeah only useful for some stuff) so might make an order and see what happens not in a big rush for it. The odin ones look great too!

I'm after a little help/advice with setting up MAME on an Anbernic RG552.

I've got JELOS installed and Emulation Station's working nicely with SNES, GBA, PSX etc. However, although JELOS/ES created a MAME folder on my SD cards, the MAME emulator doesn't seem to be installed - other emulators appear automatically in ES when it detects a ROM for that system, but MAME has not.

What do I need to do to get MAME up and running, please?

I put them in the arcade folder on JelOS and they work fine - I think it uses Finalburn for that? I only have 2D games though, and they all work.

Thanks, I’ll give that a try - I’m not sure if there’s an issue with the Jelos build I’m using (August) because the retro arch settings menu won’t allow me to update cores (says there are none) but I’ll try the Arcade folder first.

I’ve order myself a Miyoo Mini as a treat and I’m dead excited. Someone nicked my SNES classic so I miss having something retro to play, and recently I’ve been reminiscing about my old Gameboy and it’s games, so a retro handheld seemed ideal.

Out of interest, where did you order from? I've been stalking the official store on ali express but to no avail.

eBay. Couldn’t find it in stock anywhere else. Paid £85 which is about the same as Droix charge

My RP3+ arrived today too. Android based systems are definitely much much much more of pain to set up than linux. It seems every little thing needs to be configured and navigating the systems seems really unfamiliar. Most of the time I can't even work out how to drop back to the emulator menu.
