PSVR2 - out now!

Anyone have any idea what's going on with my PSVR2; I'm not getting any video on the social screen TV, so if I put the headset on my head, the TV just shows a black screen, take the headset off the picture returns to the TV. I can see what's in the headset but nothing on the passthrough. It was working fine the other day but now it's not.

If I do the whole initial calibration with the pattern on the tv & room scan, that all shows up on the TV but once done goes back to nothing. Driving me crazy.

For people who are finding it’s hurting their nose, it sounds like you might need to have the headband higher on your head at the front and the back of the headset sat lower on the back of your head.  Since doing that I’ve had no pain on my nose at all because it’s essentially hovering above it.  This has also helped me in consistently getting a sharp image. Not saying it will work for everybody’s noggin, but worth trying it out.

Yes, that’s what the technique I explained badly above seems to achieve.

@Zombaitis that including when you actually go into a game? I’ve had it where the social screen is black when I’m on the Home Screen but it kicks in once I get into a game.

How strange, it wouldn't work earlier, I launched REVillage...but now it does, I think I've had the home screen display on social screen before too 🤔
*edit* And now it seems to be working in the home screen too, must be a glitch in there somewhere with the video signal handshake, hopefully one that'll be patched soon!

I have this on and off and it's driving me nuts.  I also have an issue where sometimes the PS5 won't come on the telly when I switch to its HDMI (if often requires switching a couple of times) but that might be very unrelated,

Yeah I think there is an issue with signal handshakes, I'm hoping Sony must be aware of it because I reckon to some extent it must be on all PSVRs and doesn't seem to be how it's supposed to be, it's far too annoying if it is 😄

However, it has all come undone for me at the first proper combat encounter as I find the system of finding medicine and equipment on my person a real PITA and not at all conducive to flowing combat. I'd rather just have a button shortcut than the daft acting out of locating things I have stashed all over me.

I had exactly these problems when I started playing RE4 on the Quest and nearly changed it to the shortcut setting. With a bit more time it all became second nature but because it's new it needed that repetition for it to click. In general, I think playing that helped me find my feet quicker in this but there are a couple of things I still need to get used to in this. I'd give it a while.

I had a similar  thing yesterday. I haven’t tried it today but I assume it’s still doing it. When a VR game is running, it usually shows it on the TV screen - but the PS5 menus won’t show up on the social screen anymore.

Could be unrelated but it started after I tripped a switch while the PS5 was in standby (with the headset plugged in). It wasn’t happy when I booted it up and spent a few minutes rebuilding the database.

Had a big go with Rez tonight. Absolutely sublime. I then jumped into my Quest via PC Link for a Half Life Alyx session. My PSVR 2 has got my VR love rekindled. I definitely prefer the PSVR 2 headset to the Quest but you can certainly see a lot of similarities with the Quest's features, which it obviously did first. PSVR 2 feels like a great evolution.

Shout out to Steam VR for having a cracking interactive Home area, messing with stuffed animals etc and spray painting in the air is a boon. Very interactive and very clever. Spent way to long just pissing about.

I even tried out my Gear VR with my old S9+. Wow!, feels absolutely archaic now, was amazing at the time lol. Omega Agent is still fantastic, mind.

Anyway, I mention these other headsets and activities in a PSVR 2 thread because I really did spend a good few hours in VR tonight, and I've cracked my own VR sickness. I could never spend the length of time I did tonight before, before my secret aid. A neck fan. I bought it in the summer but getting the PSVR 2 was the first time I thought to try it out with VR. It works, for me. A constant breeze blowing upward toward the headset cooling my face and the back of my neck has combated my usual 20 minutes or so then queasy feeling and stopped the screen from all fogging. I played way, way longer than usual and had zero ill effect. I did have my travel sickness bands on too, mind.

Lowest blow setting, wearing the 3D Pulse cans, I couldn't hear the fans, or at least I didn't notice them

Anyone suffering VR nausea and foggy lenses should give it a try. It works for me, anyway. Big time.

This one. Bendable rubber at the neck so pretty comfortable too. Recommended.

To everyone enjoying Rez Infinite, you may have forgotten just how hard of a game it was. I certainly did.

I was working my way through unlocking the direct assaults, so only did the first in VR and then switched to controller. It’s been a long time, but man I *sucked* - didn’t even get 100% shot down on the first area, couldn’t get the 3rd boss to Tera form, couldn’t get all the support items on any stage and took hits to the point that I nearly died on stage 4.

I’ve gotten so used to the VR god mode where you can still shoot targets even after they go off screen behind you, and having a cursor that’s magnetically attached to the enemies. It was quite a thrill to be challenged again, but overall I still prefer the experience of VR easy mode.

edit - also to continue feeding my tech paranoia about HDR, I noticed that within the game settings menu there was an option to toggle HDR, which was set to OFF (as previously described by @Strafe) My TV does support HDR, so I turned it back on. But when I plug in my VR headset, that option disappears from the menu.

Is that because it automatically supports it, or because it doesn’t? Strafe said he saw that option in VR mode.  Hmmmm.

Which leads me to my next question.

If I sign up to PS+ and play puppeteer on the headset will I be able to activate 3D mode cos that game was great in 3D.

I don’t think any kind of 3D content works at the moment, including 3D videos and blu-ray. Also isn’t that a PS3 game? If so you’ll have to stream it so that might affect it. I’ll try it later and report back.

Thans very much for testing it.

Appreciate that. Yes it's PS3 but it was cracking in 3D.

So the HDR is always on in the headset.

That setting is to enable HDR and 120hz in big screen mode using the headset to play non VR PS4 and PS5 games.

I know about that, but this was in the game settings within Rez itself. Can anyone confirm to put me out of my misery?

Just had a look (PS5 turned on first, then headset, no TV) I don’t get any HDR or other image options except for brightness within Rez.

edit: ok, tried it with just the TV on (No VR headset, from power on of the console) and there’s an HDR option. So I reckon the console/game is getting confused by the fact you have a TV and headset on (assuming that’s the case of course).

So the good news is that streaming games work perfectly on the headset, but sadly although it mentions calibrating 3D TV settings under ‘screen’, when you enter that menu the option isn’t there, it’s not even greyed out. So I guess the PSVR2 either isn’t recognised as having 3D TV support or the streaming prevents it anyway. Be interesting to see how this develops as I’d quite like to try some 3D games and Blu-rays.

Doesn't YouTube have 3D videos? I’ll boot that later and see if anything happens.

Your PS5 won’t play 3D blu rays, I’m afraid.

Yeah I know. I’ve tried 3D movies on YouTube and they won’t work either, so basically no kind of stereoscopic 3D content at all works currently.

it did in VR1 but I didn’t see the option in YT on the PS5 when I was using it in VR2 t’other day. VR1 asked you whether you wanted the VR version on boot iirc.

@Stanley I’m not sure, but doesn’t making the screen smaller have the same effect of making it seem further away? *FatherTed.gif*

No the screen remains the same distance no matter what size you make it. It means that making it as big as it can go is like having a full size cinema screen a metre or so away from you, a bit like sitting right in the front row of a theatre.

@StanleyBut then if you decrease the screen size is that not the same effect as moving back a few rows?

No your distance from the screen remains constant.

So imagine you’re in your lounge 6-8ft away from your 65” telly, but then you get a new telly which is 200” but you are still sitting 6-8ft away. Only on PSVR 2 the screen is actually much closer then, perhaps only a metre or so.
