But. This is VR. Don’t kid yourself that in the first week or so you won’t buy more than you originally planned as you get continually wowed

😬 I’m bad enough with non VR games.

What’s everyone’s launch day games?

Mine are,

GT7

RE Village

No Man’s Sky

Tentative,

Walking Dead Saints & Sinners 2

Star Wars

Horizon

I’ll pick up Rez at some point too.

Saints and Sinners 2 isn't launch day is it? I've just picked up the first game as that's getting an upgrade the day number2 is released so I can wait and the pick up the second game cheaper after a few weeks.

I'm looking forward to giving the Horizon game a try and then scare myself silly with Resi Village.

Oh is it not, I thought it was a launch game. At least that’s one less to consider!

Regarding HDR, do not expect searing bright lights like on an LG OLED - 800 to 1000 nits just inches away from your eyeballs = damaged eyes.

That’s not how nits work. It’s a measurement of apparent surface brightness, not energy output, so it’s normalised. The same image isn’t inherently more harmful near your eye if it occupies the same amount of your field of view. In principle you would be able to direct more total energy at the eye because the screen subtends a larger proportion of your FOV but you’d just trigger the pupil to contract.

I’m actually very curious what the peak brightness of the panel will be. 1000 nits is trivial on those mobile-sized screens these days, and the PSVR doesn’t even have to worry about battery consumption.

Interesting, but I'm not convinced that distance to eye isn't an issue with the higher (theoretically) brightness. Still, I guess we'll find out soon enough. :)

I’m going for:

Horizon: COTM (bundled)

Kayak: VR (pre-ordered)

Song in the Smoke (free upgrade)

GT7 (already owned)

No Mans Sky (already owned)

Rez infinite (£10 upgrade)

Tetris Effect (£10 upgrade)

Happy with that!  I’ll wait for some forum/review feedback before grabbing anything else.

Owned:

Horizon: COTM

GT7

No Mans Sky

Rez infinite

Tetris Effect

Contemplating:

Kayak: VR

Cities VR (Own on Quest but I think the higher res and it being on my PS5 would be better)

I have Star Wars: TFTGE on Quest and a few PSVR games which I’m holding onto in case they get upgrades announced. There will be a few titles I’ll probably wait to get on Quest for when I upgrade to the mk3, if I think the wireless play will suit it better.

My launch window list:

  • Horizon: Call of the Mountain, as I ended up getting the bundle.
  • Resident Evil Village, which I picked up in a recent sale
  • Pistol Whip, as above.
  • No Man's Sky, which I bought at initial launch.
  • Kayak VR, which is just over £16 to pre-order with Plus so worth a go.
  • Saints and Sinners Chapter 1, which I believe is coming sometime in March but will be a free upgrade from the PS+ version.

It's also likely I'll pay the upgrade fees for Tetris Effect and Rez. Beyond that, Garden of the Sea and The Last Clockwinder both have my interest but I doubt I'll even have enough time for the stuff I already own.

Just bought a physical copy of Resi for £23 (which I'll trade in after) and I think at £18 quid, I'll bite on Kayak VR as I've got a mate who's never tried VR and really wants to try it out (Told him not to go near anything until later this month). I'm actually looking forward to his reaction as much as seeing the new tech as I know it's going to blow his mind.

If COTM gets truly rave reviews, then that will get added.

my psvr2 has a delivery window as yours. But my charging station says feb22nd. No idea if that’s at all an indicator

How are you tracking this? I've logged into the store but can't see anything.

NM - found it. Mine says "Release Date: Delivers February 22nd - 28th, 2023"

Login to the store. Click the burger on the left top , select “account” it will take you to your open orders ( you’ll probably need to change the date range as it defaults to 2023, and if you pre-ordered  in November it won’t show) . Then click on “order details”  for the relevant order.

One of the games I'll be double dipping on from my Quest 2 is Zenith. It's a MMO with gliding that was quite fun at launch and from what I hear has only gotten better

Do you want to watch someone unbox the PSVR2? Probably not, but you can anyway:

The only thing I'd say might of interest is that the inner box can neatly store the headset and controllers, so worth considering if you want to tidy away between sessions or take the headset with you somewhere.

If the inner box couldn't hold the contents, it's hard to see how they'd ship it to you.

A box being suitable for shipping doesn't necessarily make it useful for storage between uses. In this case there are moulded compartments for the headset and controllers, with the box having an easy to access flip-top lid, so it's less of a faff if you want to store everything in a cupboard or whatever.

I might go for that third party charger that houses the controllers and the headset, that looks pretty neat and easy to store, and God knows I’ve got so much stuff to charge, just for the PS5 alone, that I think I’m gonna need it.
