I feel like the hold can't be for the full amount if you're pre-ordering something months away, though. At the risk of exposing my ignorance regarding credit cards, surely they'd just do a £1 pre-authorisation charge?

No, giving it a miss. Too expensive, no games and also I swear VR has made my eyesight worse. It’s good everyone that’s interested seem to be getting the email come through now though!
 

PSVR is great. Can remember the first time hooking it up and playing it and was totally blown away. The playroom  game that’s got the Shark Attack and the different Astrobot stuff on was like a childhood dream come true. The proper Astro Bot VR game is stunning. It was great to play Rez in VR as it’s one of my fav games. A few other were fun (including playing Zelda BOTW on it) but compared to standard games it does all feel like a bit of a novelty.

 

Returnal in VR. Definitely need a sick bag for that one. 😂

I’m concerned it will make me feel quite ill. My only experience of VR is the old Gear VR Samsung did five years or so ago, and it felt very weird. I’m hoping the technology is suitably more advanced now and won’t be so bad.

When I first played PSVR I wasn’t too bad. Then I played it a fair bit over a few days including a lot of one of the horror games, think it was Here They Lie. Walking sim, seemed to have a David Lynch influence and had Wolf Men in it. Ended up having really bad dissociation and anxiety for days afterwards. Felt like I was no longer in my body, like I was somewhere else. It was absolutely horrendous! Thankfully after a few days i slowly returned to planet earth. 😂

 

It happened a few times after that and seemed to depend on how immersive the game was and how long I played for. It definitely alters your perception. Like sometimes you can take it off and the real world doesn’t seem as real anymore. Lol. Other games can give you really bad motion sickness but I personally found this got less the more I used it. After not playing for a few months though, it tends to hit you again when you go back to it. A few weeks ago I had it out and gave Ace Combat a go. Felt like someone was stirring my brain around the inside of my head everytime I turned the plane, but apart from that I was fine and it didn’t cause any problems. A few weeks after first playing VR I noticed I was suddenly having trouble reading shit though and that my eyesight was fucked with anything close up. Had never had a problem before. 
 

Think it’s a good idea to be careful with it and understand any issues it might cause.  Maybe read up on them? If you can try it before hand I’d definitely advise it. I know some people can’t tolerate it at all and it makes them really ill (motion sickness). Astro Bot is amazing though. It’s hard to describe just how good it is. When you’re fighting a boss that’s as big as your house, and it’s right there in front of you. You’re actually inside the game. It’s pretty nuts!

 

Oh and one other thing to consider........some games aren’t really playable if you have any phobias. For example anything with spiders in. Big “fuck no” to that! Like the twat I am I tried Skyrim to see how I’d get on with them and it was the stuff of nightmares and genuinely terrifying. I guess it would be the same if you’re claustrophobic, scared of heights etc.

I couldn’t handle Resident Evil 7 or - even worse - any sort of driving on the PSVR 1. I just felt really nauseous. 

 

So maybe I shouldn’t be even considering this new one.
 

Weirdly, Polybius was absolutely fine. Even more comfortable than Astro Bot where you weren’t moving much at all.

I got my psvr launch  day and I played for hours. Then the following night I played  Batman vr solidly for about 4 hours , and the next three days were spent questioning my reality and looking at my hands thinking they weren’t  mine . Once your brain rewires it’s fine though.

I'm not too bad with spiders in games, and never really found the ones in Skyrim bad at all, but that bit got me good!
