Brilliant, no way I'm buying chapter 2 until they sort it out. Looking at Reddit it seems they are hoping for summer for a fix. I really cannot understand why it isn't a simple job just to allow disc owners to upgrade.

The whole PS5 upgrade procedure seems like a horrible nightmare for devs compared to how it works on Xbox. Sorry you're having such problems. I don't suppose you ever downloaded the game on PS+?

Yeah, C Smash is excellent. Presentation is how I imagined VR would be as a kid. Tutorial is simple and I played 5 multi player games. Most were great with some good volleys but I had one where the lag was obviously an issue.

My favourite bit was realising your opponent was next to you as you travel to your match. Waving at each other won’t get old…

Oh cool, the demo has online MP?

Right, bought the upgrade as it's the only thing on there but when I try to launch the game from disc it wants me to connect the og PSVR and trying to manage the game add on does nothing.

Jesus, why have they made it so difficult?

Did you buy the PS5 upgrade or the PS4 version? Why there are two I have no idea, because if you already bought the full version on PS5 you wouldn’t need an upgrade

I didn’t download the original so it’s looking like I’ll be waiting for the official upgrade when they release it.

C-smash then - it plays well, looks nice and clean and it’s very responsive - but I was hoping for a little more of the future music techno stuff that was indicated by the first trailer. It’s more like a vanilla squash game (with the caveat that I could only do the practice modes as it couldn’t find me any opponents in quick match). Also it took me a little while to adjust to playing with the ‘standing’ setting, as the impulse is to move to intercept the ball but your horizontal movement is done with the stick - and then you *do* have to jump or duck to reach high or low shots, so there’s a bit of disconnect with the movement. I expect room scale will play considerably more intuitively. I was also nervous about leaning out for shots due to not being confident I wasn’t going to collide with something, despite there not being any risk of this.

Sadly the experience was marred a bit by the bright white environment confirming that my headset does have some stuck pixels on the right-side screen. It’s not really so bad, a little bit of cyan and magenta next to each other but not central and quite faint - I have worse floaters on my actual cornea so I’ll probably just live with it. But still, you know, it’s not what you want to see.

After running through all the practice stages I then started up No Man’s Sky for the first time. I’m a veteran of the PSVR original so knew exactly what to expect, but oh dear… not impressed. I couldn’t get the controls to work! It started me on an extreme toxic planet, so while it’s trying to walk me through how to holster my multitool my hazard protection is going down and down. It told me to reach over my shoulder - it didn’t bloody say it has to be the left shoulder, did it! By the time I figured that out my shields were gone and I was taking damage. I’m stood right next to the sodium plant I need to pick up to fix my shields, but I can’t do it. The line that should appear has not appeared. I try everything I can but ultimately drop dead right next to the thing I needed to survive.

Respawn a short distance from my grave marker, run over to it - can’t pick that up either. Start dying again, switched it off. Load of bollocks.

I am nearing the end of Call of the Mountain and have really enjoyed,  the definition of a big dumb AAA game, the mechanics are smooth if a little unambitious, its a fairly linear path but the whole thing looks gorgeous and is tailor made for offering up gob smacking expansive views.  In the world of Quest ports and indie titles its nice to bath your eyeballs in a high budget game.

I’m a bit disappointed in the lack of software for the VR2.

What lack of software?

I'm a bit worried about the future but there's shit loads out?

This is such a bizarre complaint. There's much more than there has been at pretty much any main console launch.

So now REm4ke is out and the Mercs mode has a release date… VR mode is next!!!  Hopefully won’t be too far away. Hopefully the Mercs mode will be playable in VR (I gather it’s not in Village?).

Yeah, I should've elaborated a bit more. While I'm generally impressed with the hardware and the games that are out, coming from various PC VR models as well as a stand alone set, I do miss some titles to showcase the technology to non gamers. I remember having lots of fun with the VR Worlds for PSVR1 and there was another demo disc as well, but can't remember the name of it.

I'm sure we'll see some great additions in the future but backwards compatibility would've been great.

I absolutely slammed MS for pretending that 'smart delivery' was a feature, rather than just 'how things work'. And I was so, so wrong. The fact Sony has nothing like it, and is just fudging everything is just awful.

I think it'll be towards the end of the year for VR.

Cool.

was there any chat from Capcom about adding in VR for the DLC and Mercs modes in Village?  Would there be any technical reason why they wouldn’t except for cost?

it's amazing just how awful it remains - playstation plus now has multiple tiles for some games, some of which are free to play with extra and some of which aren't.

It's not like the console has just launched either.

I think you're right, and there are a few reasons we may have to wait until then. Firstly, they might want to delay it until they feel they have got whatever extra income and perceived value they wanted from the VR mode in Village. Secondly, I was wondering if there might be a 2 year VR exclusivity deal in place for Resi 4 on the Quest, which would mean no possible release until October 2023. A third possible factor could just be that it's the same team responsible for the VR mode in Village that's doing the Resi 4 VR mode, and so they had to finish their work on Village before moving on to the remake.

It'll be so fascinating to see how the mode (assuming it's the full game again) compares to the version on Quest 2. That was made by Armature, one of the developers that has now been bought by Oculus. It made Recore on the Xbone!

End of the year makes sense for RE4 VR. Sales of the game would have tailed off and PSVR2 headset sales will have increased should mean a second wave of new purchases for the game.

Maybe! If it’s the full game in VR then that suits me fine as it will have been a long enough gap for another play through.

In other news, Walking Dead Saints and Sinners part 1 is pretty good, especially for £7.99. I’m less keen on the stamina mechanic, specifically in how quickly it drops during gameplay.

Yeah it’s bloody awful. I love PlayStation but they’re still playing catch up in so many ways.

I’ve just checked the store again and cannot for the life of me find it at that price, the PSVR2 version states it’s unavailable.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they pulled it as it must have been some sort of pricing error, I grabbed it on release date early doors.

They can be popped off, though I haven’t tried it yet to see how easy it is. But they just clip on so hopefully it’s not too bad.

I’ll give it a go tomorrow and update.

So they’re pretty easy to pop off. Having said that I’m not sure I’d be over the moon doing it regularly if I had a few diff people using the headset in the house. Though that’s probably just me being ultra cautious.

Seeing @Matt Defis reactions last night to GT7, Horizon and Synth riders made this purchase even more value for money.

Dudes a stone cold killer mind stuck him in Switchback and the fucker didn't flinch or jump once. Just murdered all the zombies.
