PSVR2 - out now!

VR Parole is raving about the Saints and Sinners game, out next week. It certainly looked good in his video and he mentioned the original bugs in the OQ version were eventually addressed.

Might be one to watch.

I just put an hour or so of laps into the Mustang/LagunaSeca time trial, then took off the headset and immediately tried a lap without it. That was an out of body experience.

Felt like I was being torn away from my 55’ TV the way Jim Carrey takes off The Mask.

Initially was using it with a 3m extension (rated at 5gb/s) , and had some connectivity issues. Now swapped for 2m 10gb/s and all is well with the world

I'm initially very disappointed with Switchback, because Rush of Blood looked and played great -  I distinctly remember going "oooohhh" and "aaaahhh" a lot when I first played it. 🤣

What have they done with the resolution on this one? Honestly, compared to some other games it's a total blurry mess. When you do get to shooting things, it's very familiar, but something feels a bit off on the aiming? Also have to agree it just feels floaty with little feedback, and the enemy animations aren't great either.

Blooming heck, all they had to do were a few more levels of Rush of Blood with some updated, prettier graphics and I would have been perfectly happy, but so far, the first level falls way short (disclaimer: only played through that one level though - so it could pick up). 😕

Yeah - I know they haven’t but  it looks as if they’ve messed up foveated rendering so the whole screen is low res.

From Supermassive's Twitter:

Obviously a very PR style post, no games company in their right mind would directly say "we fucked up!", but I'm guessing it's panic stations right now given the generally poor reviews.

I really hope they can keep improving things and make it an essential purchase. Then again, I've bought every Dark Pictures game to support one of the few devs making that style of game and been reasonably disappointed each time, so I'm clearly a dreamer / idiot 😅

I had an Oculus years ago but had to sell it as I had such anxiety before going into as it just felt kinda intense.

But I've been monitoring the PSVR subreddit and people seem to be having a blast playing Pavlov to the point I'm kinda thinking I need to get one. Just a bit torn as I don't do horror games and no interest in racing so a bit worried I'll be very limited in games.

So there's Synth riders which is awesome, there Moss 1 and 2 I've only played the first but hear the 2nd is even better.

Call of the mountain is a climbing game. But really rather good indeed at what it delivers.

And plenty more.

I've been playing Tsushima in the headset. It's so cinematic.

Yeah, I played it again for a bit last night, and this is my problem with it. Climbing is boring. The combat is alright, but the animation is still iffy on the enemies.

I've also given up on Resi village - partly because the lack of ammo is a bit too stressful for my liking, but mainly because it commits the cardinal sin of unexpectedly moving the player, sometimes violently, which is massive no-no and it happens far too often. It's visually stunning, but I can't play it.

We had a family Mother's Day thing at my brother's over the weekend and we got to try his PSVR2. I didn't mind the PSVR1 headset, but this one feels immediately more comfortable and lighter, and you don't have the horror show of cables from before - also the grip controllers are very nice. We did a bit of kayaking and then some GT, and generally it feels like a decent upgrade. :D

I've not noticed anything wrong with the enemy animation, especially on the larger beasts.

And some of the climbs at the later stages of game are so impressive. What you are climbing for example. The view and then those occasional theme park ride moments as you grasp a rope and go weeeee...

On a long ride around the locations.

If you're not seeing it, then I won't point it out so you notice. :)

When you pause a cutscene you can toggle them to display in flat mode, on a floating screen; I assume the toggle is persistent but I haven't checked. Obviously not the most seamless experience, but it would allow you to keep playing if you want to.

I’ve never had a problem with ammo tbh, there is loads lying around and it can also be crafted.

I get the cutscene issue but it stopped bothering me after a while. Do you know you can choose to have those play in flatscreen for a smoother experience?

It looks excellent, particularly after the Quest 2 version which was a bit of a disaster (seems like it was released pretty unfinished to get the Christmas market). But I haven't played the first one, so I hope Skydance has put the work into that game too. It would seem like a good idea to do so, but... er... publishers/devs aren't always smart.

It's not the cut scenes, it's still early doors when a werewolf grabs you and throws you to the ground. Maybe I'll play with the settings.

I think it even treats those as little cutscenes but I could be wrong. Stick with it though, honestly the ammo is fairly generous after a bit too, and the game is just awesome.

I was never very impressed by the VR mode of Tetris Effect on the original headset, but it’s a revelation on PSVR2 - absolutely breathtaking. I just did the whole journey mode from start to finish. So glad I paid for the upgrade.

Lack of Ammo and Stressful? Weird for a survival horror game

My VR Optician prescription lenses have arrived at home today, apparently. Looking forward to trying them out! I'll report back.

How are they? Expecting mine in a day or so though won’t get a chance to try them until the weekend.

Anyone picking up The Walking Dead Saints & Sinners Retribution Chapter 2 (just rolls off the tongue that one) ?

I’m not sure what the deal is with whether it includes the first game. I have that from when it was free on PS+

I’m waiting on reviews but otherwise yes. I don’t think it includes the first one but there is a bundle and the first one is being updated for PSVR2 with a confusing free/paid upgrade path (free if you have the tourist edition, $10 if you have the regular one. Not sure how the psplus version fits into that)
