If I buy Synth Riders, is it just as playable/still enjoyable seated? I'd love to be able to throw myself around the room but health issues won't allow it. I'm well up for the music side of it and there's a little bit of money off it at the moment.

Disappointing to see the early  impressions of Switchback although £32 for a digital game had me erring on the 'wait for a sale' side anyway.

You can tailor it to your needs to include no ducking or dodging and just play the rhythm action aspect of it, and yeah you can play it seated but you’ll still have to move your arms and upper body quite a bit.

I turned in the vr border on the telly and sat back from it a little , seems that have improved the tracking on moss2 👍

standout game for me though is synth riders, you feel like some sort of tron god when playing it ❤️ totally exhilarating

I just don't really like being as closed off from the world as the headset makes me. I can do it in GT7 as I can half convince myself the pressure on my head is the helmet but it is still less than ideal.

If you turn on sidetone volume and raise it a few levels, that at least lets the world in, audio-wise. Settings > Sound > Audio Output, scroll a long way down. I THINK it’s in that list.

Oh dear, I think I've just started to get into GT. Chasing the golds in the licence tests is becoming slightly crack-like. I'd think if you're a petrol head, this must be heaven in VR - it's horribly slick and good.

I am gutted Switchback has reviewed so poorly, was proper looking forward to it after loving Rush of Blood on PSVR, it was one of those games you'd make family/friends play and suffer the horror!

Likewise, was my most anticipated title until recently. I'll still pick it up, but maybe hold off until I've played my current games rather than insta buy. I do miss playing Rush of Blood, so even if it's incredibly similar, at least it's an option beyond digging the PSVR1 out and all the setup faff it comes with.

Dunno if it’s reviewed poorly. Just not stellar. If you read the reviews you’ll see that the general concensus is that if you liked rush of blood, you’ll like this. It just do any thing particularly new. I’m in because I like rush of blood and the new controllers should make is a less frustrating experience

It's supposed to not be as good as the first one, which is pretty criminal.

Sounds good. Are the leaderboards tailored to a specific play style or does the tailoring invalidate any score entry?

I think you can filter them to include modifiers or just combine all the scores. I have mine set to combined.

So Switchback…

I can see the criticisms already. Started well but I have to agree, there’s very little feeling of impact when you shoot the enemies- really basic animation. Some literally have two states- when they appear and then an immediate “dead state” when you’ve pumped enough bullets into them. The dogs however. Oh boy… the dogs “attack” you and literally have no animation. They just move in a smooth arc towards the screen. Honestly, it’s so poor I’m genuinely surprised they thought it was OK to put out. Speaking of which- anyone who’s played this make it past the dogs when it says “don’t make a sound”? I’ve tried umpteen times, holding my breath, sitting in silence and every single time I get to the same spot and I’m killed. I actually think it might be a bug. If it is a bug it’s a bad one because you simply can’t proceed further. @cassidy have you gotten past that yet?

The loading times are pretty poor too and there’s a definite feel that this is a non optimised port of a PSVR1 game. There’s no head haptics (that I could tell) which seems a missed opportunity when it’s telling you that you have to move and duck out of the way of objects.

I really hope they patch this as there’s already a lot of comments floating around about bugs too.

I played maybe 15 minutes to get a feel for it so haven’t seen the dogs, but yes to the rest of that.

The loading times are especially jarring as frequent as they are, with the lack of much in the way of narrative. Did they even get the curator guy back for a single voice line? He shows up all over the place and nothing happens when you hit him. 3/10

Also, the fire and liquid effects look like 2D sprites and it’s really obvious when they’re floating all around you.

You could try muting the mic for the dogs bit?

Yeah, tried that. Definitely a bug for me- just watched a stream where the guy breezed past the exact same spot. I’ll restart and see if it repeats…

Update . I’m not in because of the true pioneers in this thread providing actual useful commentary.

Well I just did the first full level and yes it's low res. But I gotta be honest I found it scary. I jumped and squealed in terror a lot.

Its fun. For some reason I ain't feeling the roller-coaster as much as first game.

Not disappointed at the moment.

Finally got round to plugging  mine in. Very nice piece of kit and setup.

Played a little Kayak then Horizon. Couldn't put the bow away over my left shoulder at the first archery practice bit so couldn't progress (tried every which way), a little annoying to say the least. But I was beginning to get a little queasy so that'll do for today I think. Everything is very soft focus though like others have said but I guess I just need to dial it in a bit more.

Looking forward to more. :)

Got to have another go on it and no idea what I was doing before but worked fine this time if still a tad fiddly. Got to the opening credits...lol!

And did catch myself trying to eat an apple when I replenished my health which properly made me laugh. Hoping for a lot more time and other games soon. Even 30mins I had made me feel nauseous. Want to try GT7 but that might be a bit much atm.

I'm initially very disappointed with Switchback, because Rush of Blood looked and played great -  I distinctly remember going "oooohhh" and "aaaahhh" a lot when I first played it. 🤣

What have they done with the resolution on this one? Honestly, compared to some other games it's a total blurry mess. When you do get to shooting things, it's very familiar, but something feels a bit off on the aiming? Also have to agree it just feels floaty with little feedback, and the enemy animations aren't great either.

Blooming heck, all they had to do were a few more levels of Rush of Blood with some updated, prettier graphics and I would have been perfectly happy, but so far, the first level falls way short (disclaimer: only played through that one level though - so it could pick up). 😕

So Resident Evil Village in VR....

5a0b54227eae1e33324e6723f343a53f3baeadcb

I tried RE 7 back in the day but found it very very stressful - to the point I wondered if it was good for me.. I guess the mechanics of an unstoppable enemy, limited ammo and a confined space really made me feel anxious more than anything else. And when RE 8 came out I expected more of the same so just didn't bother with it.

With the launch of PSVR 2 I bought Village for cheap and figured Id give it a go up until the point I felt I couldn't play it anymore. And that moment NEVER came.

I think RE8 in VR has hands down become one of my favourite gaming experiences of the last ten years. Just utterly sublime. I moved past the point of powerlessness and came to understand the mechanics of the game and then activity began loving every minute of it. Was it terrifying? Yes totally - but also utterly thrilling and exciting.

I wish Capcom would update RE7 for PSVR2, so I could give that another go - as I think my fear of RE games in VR has worked its way out.

I completed Moss Book II last night. What a wonderful game, I continue to thoroughly recommend it to everybody! It looks great (moving your head close to the wooden boxes, for example, shows up some pretty sharp and immaculate texture work!), the gameplay is super-solid, there are lots of enjoyable puzzles, and the last world added a mind-bending new mechanic that was great fun.

I'm also up to the last Journey level in Tetris Effect. NINETY lines to complete it, you say? Uh oh - I noped out before bed, will tackle it over the weekend as I didn't want to get to one of those evil speed ramp-ups while tired and inevitably screw it up.

I'm about halfway through Horizon, I think. My plan is to complete that before getting into Resident Evil Village properly.

I’ve been playing the Resi 2 remake in cinematic mode and whilst it’s probably even more stressful than playing on a normal TV it has been entirely comfortable to play on in a way the just wasn’t possible with PSVR1. I have the screen size about 25% up from the smallest it’ll go and it feels like the sweet spot for me.

I do look forward to the day when the tech entirely eliminates the fov so you don’t have the telescope effect. I know you tune it out after a small while but still.

edit: oh and!!! Little to no screen drift in cinematic mode which always got on my wick.
