PSVR2 - out now!

Not much in the way of specifics, but I'm glad they've explicitly stated that a successor will be coming so we don't have to keep assuming.

Wireless would be preferable but I can totally understand why they wouldn't go down that road: performance will vary drastically from household to household, plus you then need to factor in a decent battery's effect on weight, etc. Probably makes more sense as an optional extra to keep the initial cost down.

I wonder if Sony's tentative steps into the PC space might lead to their new hardware working on the platform. Given how limited the market for VR currently is it would seem sensible.

The problem i have with all VR setups, is that its the new " sitting on the fence " for gaming Tech.

I was going to get the original Occulus Quest - until there was a rumour that a Quest 2 was coming.

And who's to ( not ) say that an Occulus Quest 3 will come out soon?

PSVR seems to be going the same way really.  Look how fast its moved since it first came out.

All that expense for what?  to sit there and watch a better one come out - a little too quickly as well.

It would be alright if they  ( the company )  offered you some kind of buyback deal. Even something like 50 quid off as a previous owner would do.

It's a real shame about the lack of wireless (although maybe there's the possibility of some wi-fi experiments in that regard, similar to how the Quest can now play PC games wirelessly whereas previously it needed a cable) but I'm well up for a new PSVR. Astro Bot 2 as a launch title, please! Rez Infinite 2! Half-Life Alyx! Come onnnnn. Could be amazing given the power of the PS5. Worth mentioning, of course, that had Sony sorted out their controllers issue years ago (they've had so much time to do it), the original PSVR wouldn't be looking so long in the tooth at this point. The idea of awesome haptics in new VR controllers is a brilliant one, though.

I hope it finally has a mechanical IPD slider, instead of this software-only nonsense. I can also live with a wire, as long as Sony don't pull their classic move of using an irreplaceable proprietary cable.

I’ve said this before but I can’t be arsed to find it to quote myself, but I reckon that’s what the single USB-C port on the front is for. It’s not used for anything else and it will be a whole lot easier to use than the current version.

I love my PSVR but the thing is such a hassle to set-up that I stopped using it. A single cord is fine, if it's as simple as Oculus Link for example. Probably best quality-wise. Astro Bot 2, Alyx and the rumoured Horizon spin-off would make for a nice line-up. And perhaps they'll make a VR version of Resi Village as well.

“A single cable” could work.

Much as VR on PS4 was the best thing ever, having to set the thing up as though you were plugging into a 90’s Cyberpunk Manga version of ThE NeT was not a winner.

I'll be glad to see the back of the breakout box. That Sony thought it was fine to not sell the HDR passthrough capable 1.5 box separately to v1 owners was frustrating.

It came out almost 4.5 years ago, and there is at least another year before this version as a 2022 launch is the earliest. 6 years between release seems likely.

Seems a very respectable length of time to be “live” to be honest.
