I can’t do 30fps any more.

Your eyes can adjust, but it definitely is incredibly off-putting if all your games have been 60fps and then suddenly you hit a 30fps game. It's an issue I have this evening actually, I'm playing Persona 5 for the first time, graphics are shite (it looks like a fucking PS3 game) and the framerate is locked 30.

The graphics I can deal with, but 30fps is making me want to shut it off and start up Days Gone or something.

I've been PC only since the 360 gen so this is sort of the default. People took the piss out of PC peeps for years for caring about it.

same I’ve been banging on about 60 FPS gaming for years.  Zelda BOTW via emulation at 60fps is really something.

It's definitely a real eye-opener after many years of not really caring if a game was 30 or 60 so long as it was stable. I started Concrete Genie on PS+ the other day and it felt like a slideshow in comparison to all the other games I had been playing recently.

Inevitably games built for the new gen are going to start targeting 30 at some point in order to push the shinies and I'm sure we'll all adjust again because we have no choice. And the likes of BOTW2 - no way it's going to be 60 but no way I'm not going to play it because of that.

I hope more studios place an emphasis on 60fps being more of a selling point and we get away from screenshots being king when hawking games. Anecdotally I feel we’re getting there. More people give more of a fuck about it than they used to, as this thread will go on to demonstrate I’m sure.

Just to raise the snobbiness in here, I've been playing Hades at 144fps and switching it back to 60fps felt pretty nasty in comparison.

But other than that, I agree, 60fps feels great and should be the default on next gen consoles. I can get used to 30fps, but I feel like we should be past that, and we're getting a lot more 60fps games now, so the ones which are 30fps really stand out to me a lot more.

I mean, to be fair to it...

It still depends on the game for me. I played the medium on pc at a bit of a low frame rate dipping under 30 but honestly it didn't bother me too much. That could be due to the fixed camera angles and slow gameplay. On the other hand I had to abandon Control on the Xbox One X after a few hours running at 30fps.

Presumably they wanted a solid JRPG in the list, and picked based on popularity/critical reputation rather than pure looks. I mean, Persona 5 (Royal) is the game I've spent the most time on PS5 playing, so I think it's a great choice ;)

(the lack of a 60fps unlock is a shame, though; not as frustrating as it'd be in a more response-driven game, but a noticeable omission)

And that's Persona 5 uninstalled. The actual game was intriguing, but the lack of frequent save points is a huge deal breaker. If I want to stop playing, I should able to do so without having to fear replaying entire sections again.

Guys, everyone knew PCs did everything faster, and we knew it cost more. This isn't some revelation, just appreciation of the tech being cheap enough to make 60 FPS commonplace.

Regardless of the hardware used, that's not the point here.  Its about the adjustment in going back to a 30fps gaming after consistently playing at 60 fps

If it wasn't two PC users being glib, then ignore my comment. I think the likelihood of pirating art like BoTW tipped me over the edge.

I go back and forth my XSX and XB1 and it's obviously noticeable. It doesn't take long to get back into 30 FPS, but I can see why a PC user would feel like they're running through treacle on a last gen machine.

If I play something at 60fps and then go down to 30, it's immediately noticeable, like switching from performance to cinematic mode in Demon's Souls remake. If I start something at 30 and keep it that way for the duration, however, then I don't notice. Ignorance is bliss, I guess.

But yes - if you want to absolutely guarantee 60fps+ in last gen games or older then you're all but required to play them on PC.

I find it a lot harder to tell the difference between 1440p and 4K than I do between 30fps and 60, so I wish all current-gen games would aim for 1440p@60fps, but then 4K games are what generate the headlines, so I expect we'll continue to see performance sacrificed for fidelity.

Ah, that makes sense. But why include it in the PS+ collection alongside the likes of of Days Gone and God of War?

Isn’t Days Gone supposed to be utter shite whereas Persona 5 is supposed to be a modern classic? I know which of the two I’ve added to my library. The only reason I haven’t started P5 yet is because I’m toying with spending actual cash on the Royal edition, even though I’ve got the vanilla version sat right there, ready to play for free. Whereas with Days Gone, I’d rather watch my dad fall down the stairs, in whatever framerate is available.

I thought Days Gone was supposed to be pretty fantastic actually?

I think it is only noticeable for the first 20 minutes. The eyes adjust. I played sekiro on Xbox after playing on PC and found the first few minutes painful. a few boss battles later I had adjusted. I almost had to learn to parry a second ahead than when my muscle memory was telling me to.

I grin and bore playing Control UE in that 30/RT mode fwiw. Even though it never stopped looking kinda strobed in a fairly abrasive stylee. I was just digging the reflections and shadows reacting accordingly in various surfaces too much. I also started Miles Morales in the 30/RT mode since I’d only within the past year happily played OG Spider-Man at 30fps on a PS4 Slim. But when that 60/RT patch came in I was wanking vigorously, no doubt.
