The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

The HD is just upscaled textures.

It's sad that fans create better texture packs than Nintendo themselves.

This guy in particular makes some awesome texture packs. Played through Ocarina 3DS and the textures are massively improved.

take a look at this twilight princess one that has better textures than the Wii U HD version.

Motion-controlled swordplay is a potentially fun mechanic but in SS it never really transcended " check which the direction the enemy's blocking and don't hit them in that direction". And it tended to slow the combat right down. Lots of enemies slowly creeping towards you, holding their weapons at weird angles to block a single cardinal direction. No aggression, no dynamism, it was just kinda weak in the end.

See I liked it slowed things down and made it heavier. I assumed someone in Nintendo had being played Dark Souls; the weight and the need to wait gives off a touch of it.

Started Skyward Sword on my WiiU this morning to see if it was like I remembered. The first hour has about 40 minutes of cut scenes. I’m out.

This is a completely fair criticism.

Skyward Sword has an intro that's as slow as any JRPG or Persona game. It's hours of cutscenes and rubbish before you do anything interesting at all.

Which is criminal in a Zelda game.

They’re all God tier compared with any other games, apart from the DS ones, oh and Souls as a series gives Zelda a good run for its money, but Zelda still wins.

No Skyward Sword is genuinely pretty pap compared to many other games.

Certainly not 'god tier'.

The correct Zelda list (assuming we're being strict and not counting Little Big Adventure, Beyond Good & Evil, Smash or Soul Calibur 2 as Zelda games) is obviously:

1 Breath of the Wild

2 Hyrule Warriors 2

3 Hyrule Warriors

= Wind Waker

4 Majora's Mask

5 Four Swords

= Link's Awakening

So I guess what I'm saying is, where's my Four Swords rerelease on Switch? It'd be perfect for 4-joycon local play!

I won't pay £50 for it, mind.

To you, the only other game from 2011 that came anywhere near it for me was Dark Souls which I loved, and still love, equally.

Including Hyrule Warriors is cheating

Then feel free to imagine much the same list, but shorter ;)

(they're bloody good games though, and at least as Zelda-y as Four Swords I'd say)

Oh God yeah, Age of Calamity is trickin’ frickin’ awesome and I hope more people play it. The best thing about that Direct for me, aside from this re-release, was the DLC announcement for that - they really should have spent longer on that segment too as I think it’s sold more than 5m already.

My dream, just how they got Capcom in to do a few Zeldas, would be a collaboration with From Software.

Whilst the price is quite ridiculous, I'm finding myself quite tempted by this to be honest. A lot of the comments on how ugly it looks seem to skip over the fact that the base game is simply one of the ugliest Zelda games ever made.

Also, whilst Nintendo hasn't said anything yet about improvements made to the overall game, there is at least one thing that this version have over the original that Nintendo hasn't highlighted yet. The original game ran at 30 FPS. From the footage released so far, this seems to be 60FPS. It took Nintendo a while to start talking about improvements made to Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD as well until those came closer to release. Considering we've got until July, I'm interested to see what else they've done to the game.

I'd be fascinated to see a full swap; the BOTW team tackling a Souls game, the Souls team tackling a Zelda. I imagine only the latter is really plausible though, as with Capcom and ω-Force.

Everyone would be complaining that Souls is too easy

I love how Skyward Sword looks, perssonally. All the characters are also just so endearingly ugly.

Yeah I liked it too (surprise :D) it had a nice painterly look, like Cézanne, there are some great characters in the game too, such as Groose, and some really well done cutscenes.

It's absolutely not, and never will be on my list!

Feel free to make your own! We can all be wrong together!

I'd love to see a non-crap fan texture pack of a classic one day, but as usual, this isn't it. It's just tasteless wood and sand photo textures replacing a strong art style, with little coherence or beauty.

AI upscaled textures actually work significantly better than handmade ones at appearing like just a high resolution version of the original game. I guess because that's basically what they are. Example:
