Splatoon 3 - Sizzle Season begins 1st June!

Don't think I've had a match where I've been in the 20s in 3.

Was relatively common for a while in 1 & 2, then became rarer as I headed up the S+ ranks. Players get devious...

My personal max splats is probably similar - 25, I think. Ranked matches (anarchy matches in 3) raise the splat counts as they force you into close contact.

It's called Pro because it calculates a power/skill level after a few matches and matches you with similar players

I'm sure it matches with similar loadouts too - just checked and in over 20 Pro games, every single one I played as a Tri-Stringer and I ALWAYS played against Stringer (of which there are only two options in over 50 weapon choices)

In Open, I did not face off against a single one.

Can you chunk/replace the main skill on a piece of gear or just the little skills?

You can, but it’s very expensive. 45 chunks.

I got to Ruler +3 and didn’t see a single Team Fun until one tri-color battle. Weird.

I’m glad that’s over with anyway. At least I managed to get better with rollers and unlock enough Sheldon Licence’s to buy all the weapons. I also discovered a liking towards the dualies that have the beacon as a sub weapon and Tacticooler for special. They’re great for someone playing support and I can’t wait to try that in Clam Blitz.

I got to the same level and had loads of turfwar matches against Fun (I was Gear).  Still didnt get a single tricolour match though 😡

The tricolour match issue was probably exacerbated by only 21% of the players being on the leading team, along with Nintendo making a change to the matchmaking to reduce the number of tricolour matches. Between those two factors it feels like you were always going to have a lack of those matches as Team Gear.

So wait with 21% of players. team fun still managed to get more conch shells and (1 type of) clout

.

But as a team with 58% of players got more (other type) of clout...They win?

That's some seriously badly designed bullshit.  (It doesn't seem to matter much looks like 24 shells for 1st, 21 for 2nd....it's just...odd)

We don't know what Nintendo's formulas are but I'd expect they would take into account the number of players so Fun will have collected more shells per player than the other teams.  With the teams being so widely split; essentially 60:20:20; it would otherwise always just be steamroller for the 'big' team.

The various methodologies for the result calculations in splatfests in S1, S2 and S3 have always been a bit on the dubious side.  IIRC at one point it was very heavily determined just by popularity so its actually better than it was!! 😅

TBH it only makes a small difference to the number of seashells awarded so I wouldn't sweat it too much

It's who wins most individual comparisons/contest categories.

Gear won the popularity contest, and the Clout contest for the Open category, Fun won the  Clout for Pro.

So that's a 2vs1 (vs0) win for Gear. Grub didn't win anything.

Edit: I have no idea what the pre-splatfest Conch shells/Sneak Peek thing is about. That's a new one on me.

Sneak Peek looks like it might be based on Conch shells gained by levelling up your catalog in the week before the splatfest, after choosing sides.

And yeah, I missed those weightings you see in the screenshots above, so it isn't a simple comparison like I said. The Open category has more weight, so whoever wins that has advantage in a straight tie. That's why Fun lost out.

  • Sneak Peek = 10p
  • Popularity = 10p
  • Open Clout = 15p
  • Pro Clout = 10p

I have absolutely no use for these sea snails anyway, considering both my main and sub gear builds only need another 8 ability chunks for completion. Plus I'm swimming in cash I don't know what I'm going to do with.

Had a 100X battle shortly before the Splatfest closed, which we easily lost because we had base inkers.  It's astonishing that you still see that close to level 40.

It took me quite a while to not need sea snails in 1/2; they allowed you get level-up gear from 1 and 2 star to 3 star, and then get a 'free' re-roll. It looks like you can pay 50K for additional star ratings, as well as paying to upgrade in shops now.

You need more than 1 build, depending on the stage, the game mode and even the meta (what weapons are trending after the latest update); so I'd have builds with variations on speed vs sub-boosting vs special-boosting vs ink efficiency, and pair them up with specific weapons when playing certain modes.

Basically, you get a 'free' upgrade or re-roll of any bit of kit per shell. Or used to - there might be changes in 3; not picked up m'shells, yet.

wait, you don't ink the base?

You do but not all at the start of the match and not to the exclusion of getting into and dominating the centre of the map.

You and your team mates will get splatted enough times that you can do a bit each time on the way back 'to the front' and use that to rebuild your special gauge on the way.

On the subject of super jumping, I use that so much less now than I did in S1, the screen on the old wii-u controller made it so easy and instinctive but I just can't get into the habit of doing it in the same way with the map screen for some strange reason.  Must try and focus on that.

I also regularly get the gold reward for "most super-jumped to" in the end of match analysis so I think that is probably telling me I am spending too much time in safe territory! 😆

My initial response to the Splatfest having three sides would be that it would diminish some of the polarising competitiveness of the Splatfest and the jovial "My tribe versus your tribe" rivalry.

Whilst I quite like the idea of Tricolour Battles adding variety to the second day of a Splatfest, I worry that they are going to be imbalanced going forward. If one team has 50/60% of the userbase, that leaves the other two with 20% each.

With two options you're obviously reducing choice, and so even a 60/40 split isn't too bad.

You could tell the game was struggling to find Grub and Fun players, especially when the latter were winning and had to defend in a Splatfest. I only got one Tricolour battle because of this yesterday.

Having only picked up S1 a month or so ago, I think this definitely was an aspect that worked better on the gamepad.

I super jump after respawning, but never mid-life. Whereas you could actually do that on the Wii U so much easier. Now it's suicide to press Y to bring up the map overlay and fiddle with your cursor.

You can super jump when you're not respawning?

Managed to get some splatfest in yesterday but didn't get any tricolour matches. I tried the playlist for tricolour but it couldn't find enough players. I was playing on the Pro playlist as suggested on here and it was mostly quite well balanced.

Constant Turf War gives me RSI, with some weapons you have to be continually bapping the trigger to ink everything. One big problem I have in Splatoon is forgetting about my special, there's just so much going on all the time its easy to forget about, and I usually remember it when I die and I've lost the charge.

I have been plagued with player disconnects and connection losses since I started playing the game, and more so in the past few days. Is this normal? Its really annoying. A lot of times when you drop out of a game the matchmaking dies after a minute which is just more wasted time. Its not my internet so do their servers struggle? I know the matches are peer to peer which explains the disconnecting players (terrible solution by the way, Nintendo's online is a joke) but it seems like the matchmaking servers are screwed as well.

As for the Splatfest teams, what's really stupid is that when you choose your team, the default selected option is Gear. Of course half the players will just pick the default option. They should have gone for a free cursor or something, its basic player psychology.

Yep. Good for getting out of bother.

Yup - down on the D-pad to quickly select home base to jump to, for the quickest possible escape.

In Clam Blitz in S2 this used to trash any clams you were carrying, but no longer does that.
