Let’s be honest Nintendo could revive any of their older games right now and they would find an audience. The last time they released an F-Zero they were playing to an install of base of 20 million, now it’s like 120 million.

Don't get me wrong, I've still got both my F-Zero X cart and GX disk as well as all the VC releases of the SNES game but it's not like the series went from strength to strength in terms of sales.

I'd be happy with an iterative sequel but I completely understand why no one at Nintendo seems to want to champion a new version right now.

no I mean that they weren't exactly on a winning formula with the series, so to them people going 'why don't you make more F-Zero games' is like saying 'why don't you burn this pile of money?'

still think F-Zero 99 is a no brainer

I totally agree, I’m just saying that’s not the reason they give out.

I would guess that seeing 2 fairly iterative and rapid sequels (by Nintendo standards) is more about the importance they see in having an online shooter in the roster.

Things like Arms, F Zero, Pilotwings just aren't strategically important for the Switch platform as a whole.

And the new hub is pretty swish. Looks like you get a short customisation, a quick basics training maze (painless; short and sweet), a broadcast from the new anchors about the Splatfest, then into the hub where you can explore and choose a side.

Not chosen, yet - wanted to see what the consensus here was. Chose Europe region.

Just to progress the F-Zero talk a little, I've had GX on all week since sampling 480i on a lovely new 20" PVM. The way it just fucking forcibly throws you into the zen state if you want to progress past even just the Standard rated cups is absolutely magnificent. The pure balls on it.

The best racer ever. It's so mentally demanding. I have to drink two pints of water before I start playing!

it's amazing, i'm totally shite at it. would definitely buy a remaster so i can be terrible at it all over again.

when i first got it, i was really disappointed they seemed to have changed the music for mute city. then you finish the first lap and if you're racing properly, it kicks in just as you go over the jump and start the fastest part of the second lap... massive shame barely anyone got to experience that though

I know that the third lap transitions the themes for all the tracks, but yeah, I've noticed that the music ups a notch even as you get boost power, like the compositions are purposely timed that way.

I've honestly no idea at all how you retrofit GX into a non-analogue triggers control scheme. These triggers are everything when it comes to cornering and drifting on this game, as they're making up for the digital acceleration (which should always be ON, and never pulsed when cornering like you would on the 2D entries).

Back to Splatoon (stop talking about F-Zero in the Splatoon thread, you weirdos)

The new hub is enormous compared to the last game. I wonder if they're actually going to use all that space for anything or if it's mostly for atmosphere.

it's for the fzero track

Yeah, looks like they have plans for stuff; it's a complex space, too. It has stairs!

It's big enough. And shut up about F-Zero, already. :quote:

Checking out the weapons - Killer Wail is back! In name only, I think, as Killer Wail 5.1.

'Unleashes six speaker-shaped, laser-emitting devices...'

Seem to be more new specials than new subs. Looking forward to trying out some of the new gear.

I downloaded the game on my daughter's account where the online membership had expired and was given a code for another 7 day trial!

Only one account gets a code per console demo download though.

Spread the word! Get those Nintendo Online naysayers onboard!

You can transfer the save for sure - I’ve done it twice - but I don’t know if it needs to be done at the same time as the whole system transfer.

The NES Zapper is one of the available guns in this, nice touch!

Yeah - they have included a nice range of weapons to try out. Expect to see a lot of people in crab tanks, or zipping about with the new 'grappling bows' (can't remember what they were called).

I'm in two minds - play with the new stuff? Or stick to what I know so I can splat more fools?
