Splatoon 3 - it's here!

Releasing a multiplayer game aimed primarily at kids right as the summer holiday ends is an absolutely idiotic decision.

I'm undecided on this. My son loved Splatoon 2, played it to death and got pretty good at it too. Now, though, a couple of years later, he's been completely swayed by the free-to-play behemoths Fortnite and Rocket League and for him online gaming is now primarily a social activity. All his mates play those games because they're free and cross-platform, I'm not at all convinced that a game on the Switch that none of his mates will own is going to appeal to him at all any more. The fact it looks - let's be honest here - absolutely identical to the last one doesn't fill me with confidence.

I'm sure it'll be a great game but I have a horrible feeling I'll pay £50 for it, we'll play it for a couple of hours then he'll back on Fortnite.

‘Kids game’ or not, there’s a reason not many videogames get released during the summer.

I think it will perform very well, the franchise has a lot of fans. I mean, you think it’s next to pointless releasing it on that date but you’ve said you’re probably going to buy it anyway regardless.

Blue Skies in games <> for kids.

I played the first for two years solid, the second for nearly three (and still dip into it). As a multiplayer game, it's balanced perfectly.

Day 1 - hope we get to preload this sucker.

Already confirmed they have I believe!

Do you have a source for that? I found some talk of cloud saves being a supported feature but the product page has this:

"Save Data Cloud is only compatible with offline play data."

Sounds a bit odd to me.

Campaign mode regular save, multiplayer data on the splatoon server like lots of others, I expect. Seems sensible to me.

Yes if Nintendo have my online data on their servers that will be fine. That's not what they do for 2 though is it? My understanding was that all your data for 2 is on the local Switch save and losing that loses everything. I'm just nervous that Nintendo aren't going to do it the same way as everyone else.

Cloud saves for the offline data is a step forward so that's a good thing at least.

You can tell the release is getting closer because the Splatoon Nonsense Machine is in full flow. Pearl and Marina are now in a new band called "Damp Socks"? You can hear a snippet of their music here?

I love this stuff, someone somewhere is living their best life dreaming this all up.

Pre-ordered my copy from Shop To with a beautiful squid key ring which I’ll definitely be making use of honestly.

Also picked up a new Splatoon pro controller, my old OG pro is getting long in the tooth so could do with something fresh.

Naively, I’m hoping for a more open map based single player campaign rather than the floating platform based courses in the second game. They were good and I clocked the single player and dlc campaigns but that was mostly so I could unlock cosmetics.

Remember when they released both a Splatoon 2 pro controller and joy cons?

So weird that they released the Splatoon 3 joy cons at the same time:

The pro controller was only announced a few weeks ago, but the Splatoon 3 themed joy cons have been out for years.
