The long-running Amiga Future magazine is still in print. It's officially the longest-running Amiga magazine, having been published for over 20 years and beating Amiga Format's record for number of issues. Not bad for a magazine launched in the dying days of the Amiga market.

 

An English and German language edition is published every two months, with an optional coverCD. I used to buy issues from AmigaKit UK, but they seem to have stopped selling it for some reason.

I covered Amiga Future but given they're not officially UK and weirdly don't publish digital copies for 2 years I left them out of that post, the new one sort of invalidates them tbh.

 

But yeah technically we have 2 competing Amiga magazines for the first time in over 20 years.

 

Games-X, well if you watched Yesterzine you'd know :P  But it's literally just a letter to Dr-X.

There was actually some good stuff on those handsets. I was especially proud of the first Hulk game as @Dr Derek Doctors did some fun game design. Doug Anderson who was the A in A'n'F claims some rights to Chuckie Egg still I think. He worked with me at that place doing mobile games. But we never did Chuckie Egg.

Even though we were getting decent 2D games at that point again thanks to things like the GBA and DS , I still saw some phone games that were doing new stuff with things like gameplay design and graphic design. Those Splinter Cell games for example looked amazing and were fun. Just let down by having to be played on a phone keypad, from what I remember. If I can still find that zip file I'll see if I can check out your Hulk game - is there an emulator that can still play these things?

It's weird that one.  They sent an incredible number of free copies out way before anyone who paid got theirs (I'm not sure they even have).  They sold then refunded digital copies because it "wasn't good enough" then sent out fixed digital copies in which I've yet to spot a difference.

 

The magazine is.. ok.  It's a bit generic, there's no real attempt to cover new games for old systems and they waste several of their limited pages on movie reviews for some reason. Obviously none of the people who got free copies bothered to mention this, as TripleJump haven't.

 

There's promise but I'm not sure I've liked the way they've gone about things.

Late reply to the above but I recently dug out an old iPad and found that you can go back into your iTunes account and redownload all the games I paid for on the iphone4 all those years ago.  It feels like the glory days of phone gaming and I'm finding myself playing Flight Control and Army of Darkness a lot. I'd possibly buy that magazine.  When I switched to Android I forgot about so many cool apps I'd bought on the Apple Store.

I don't even have a WH Smiths in my town now. It stopped stocking any magazines I liked to buy anyway, as she shelves shrunk. Always plenty of gardening and cross-stitch magazines and TV guides, but the gaming and science fiction section all but disappeared. I couldn't find Retro Gamer there since about 2014 (I was still buying most issues off the shelf rather than subscribing). The meager selection at my struggling WH Smiths made me go all-digital and I've never looked back. It's a shame, I kind of miss real magazines.
