What's the time lost in the pits here? If Lewis pits, he'll come out in 7th I guess and have to make some moves. If he hangs on he has a good chance of a podium, assuming Charles comes in.

I think Hamilton was finishing 5th if he didn't stop with his pace, the fresh tyre gave him at least a chance of more, but the graining was to much.

Yep, 5th either way, unless his first set had a blowout leaving him nowhere.

No idea why Merc didn't pit Hamilton the lap after Perez as he was quicker and had the undercut?

Or at least the same lap as perez which was one lap after the other leaders had.

Once they decided to stay out may as well stay out.

Three options there no taken and he ends up 5th and could so easily have been seventh with graining everyone knew about. He's rightfully pissed off

Why do you think he’d have been 5th if he hadn’t pitted? The gap he had to Perez and Leclerc seemed sufficient given their respective paces and I think worse case would have been 4th.

The right call was for Hamilton to stop when they asked him to stop, running longer was the mistake.

After that you could see clearly with the way Bottas was catching LeClerc that the old worn tyres were the wrong call, and with the speed at which those were catching.  The graining cleared after 2 or 3 laps (LeClerc ended up keeping pace, and indeed catching Max towards the end in the 1:32/33s Hamilton had also cleared it by the end.

The Mercedes was easily the fastest car all weekend, that could have been an old school HAMBOTVER without the penalty. If that continues into the next few races then Max will cement his lead on the 'Most wins without a championship' table.

The lap before he stopped, Hamilton did a 1:36, post graining, LeClerc was in the 1:32/3s for a few laps, the gap was only 8 or 9 seconds with, what, 8 laps to go.  As we know, Perez passed LeClerc too.  Hamilton was finishing 5th regardless.

Yep, it's slipping away from Max.

Toto confirming this would have seen him finish higher. Lewis should have trusted the hundreds of people analysing the situation on his behalf on this occasion.

Another case of the team needing to be stronger telling their driver what to do. They needed to be absolutely sure the performance would be there right to the end if they were going to let him stay out any laps after Perez pitted.

If you are not sure, order your driver to stop. Worst case you are 4th. By allowing Ham to dictate and staying out they backed themselves into a corner and could have finished 7th.

Toto confirming he'd have finished in the 4.3 second gap between Perez and LeClerc at the end.

A gap that would have been smaller if LeClerc had not been defending to Hamilton earlier, and assuming he didn't loose a couple of seconds in a lock up trying to defend against faster cars coming through doesn't hold a lot of weight with me.

This is roll of the dice stuff.

Hamilton should have stopped when they told him to, that was the correct strategy.
