Just the Alfa Romeo lineup to go.

GIO dropped, MSC alongside Bottas?

(to be clear, this is pure speculation, I haven't heard anything. Just think MSC's agent must be doing everything to try and get him out of Haas - both because it's slow, and because it's increasingly clear that he really can't stand the driver of the no.9 car on any level).

Rumour has it that it's probably going to be Zhou. His sponsor offers 30 million euros for Giovinazzi's seat.

So Nyck de Vries has no chance anymore then?

Great news - am hoping for a Gasly-esque rise from the ashes for the guy as he's definitely got talent and it's always nice to see drivers sticking it to Marko and Horner.

As for Zhou in the Alfa, yeah - I can imagine that might be the case. Not terrible as he's pretty decent, although his F2 season this year hasn't been as strong as you'd like to see from a third-year F2 driver in a good team.

Zhou should be going for Mazespin's seat really.

Talking of Mazespin, he put up a picture saying #NM99 on one of his socials the other day. People figure it means he thinks he's getting the number 99, which:

a) Isn't how Formula One's number system works, as if Gio is out of a drive it'll be two years before the number 99 can be used by someone else (unless Daddy Mazespin throws a load of money at someone I suppose)

b) Potentially spoils the fact the Gio is out of a drive before any official announcement is made, which is an incredibly shitty thing to do.

...and is absolutely in line with expected behaviour from him.

On closer inspection turns out he is wearing an Alpha Tauri t-shirt in the official pics.

That's from his DTM team where he drives a Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo which has an Alpha Tauri livery.

Do we think Russell will have the skills to be up there with Max? I hope so. What a cracking battle they could have.

Next season is going to be so good.

I think we have to keep in mind that George has 51 Grands Prix under his belt. That's a lot of F1 experience, even if 50 of those were in a Williams. Of course, in his one race weekend in a Merc that he had to be crow barred into, he easily outclassed Valtteri during the race and came within a whisker of out-qualifying him also.

It remains to be seen how each team's cars compare with each other next year, so the more pertinent question might be do we think Russell will have the skills to be up there with Lewis?

Spoiler

Imma say yes.

It will be fascinating to see the dynamic at play as we get closer to the first race.

How does Lewis react if George is close in winter testing or even beating him? I have a feeling George will be on it from day one and we won't see any happy happy smiley team mates. Lewis will treat him as the threat he is.

I want to see Bahrain 2014 asap! Set the bar early, for war.

But you also have to remember that happened at a very weird track.

It's impossible to know but it seems he'll at least be closer, and the people will all the information certainly thinks so otherwise they could easily have held onto Bottas for another half decade.

But look at the drivers who are in new teams this year. Bearing mind all these cars are at the end of the development cycle. With the exception of Alonso, all have struggled be as good as the established drivers. Ricky being the biggest loser this year. Sainz and Perez are almost on a par now but still don't look like dominating their team mates.

So for George to rock up and get in the merc and be that damn close. Says a lot about him. And yes I know he had tested that car a couple of times. But he got on and made Bottas look ordinary.

Lewis is a whole different kettle of fish of course and I don't think George will be in a position to go for wins next year. And if he's smart he won't, because he's job is to be the number 2 and be Hamiltons wing man. Because that's how you win constructor and driver championships. You need both drivers doing the job. Which is why Redbull continue to struggle to win the one all the teams want.

A constructors means the whole team did a good job, not just one half of the garage.

Hmm... If I am honest I don't think that is his job at all. I think he is being brought in as the (potential) future of the team, he's not been brought in to be lapdog number 2.

And for George being wingman is not a smart tactic for me. He does not want to be seen by the team as falling into the number 2 role. No one knows how long Ham will actually stick around for, he could very well end up at Merc for another 3-4 seasons. George can't play number 2 for too long if the team is ever going to see him as the leader.

His best bet IMO is to push Ham from day one. Be right on him in qually, do your best to avoid battling him super hard on track - but don't shy away from it either. Keep it clean, back out of marginal moves - but decisively take the safer ones and show you are not a push over.

If he is on a par pace wise and putting marginal moves on Lewis on track it will sour very quickly. He needs to find the right balance so that this doesn't happen in his first season IMO.

Out of the car be seen to collaborate and foster a good relationship. He doesn't need to be his mate but he does need to show he can work with Lewis to push the team forward. Say the right things, be seen to have the right attitude. If he does this right then naturally the teams focus will slowly move more and more in his direction.

The big question is - will the Merc be a title contender next year? If it's not then 30% of the heat is immediately taken out of the situation. If they have a huge car advantage, well it will inevitably get tricky.

This.

Russell is not chumpionship material. There's too much potential there to squander it being the teams bitch. I'd expect a rivalry the likes we've not seen since Vettel and Webber.
