Ok race but needed more opportunities for overtaking. Flawless drive by Max & Lewis/Mercedes are under pressure thus the odd strategy decisions today. Good drive also by Gasly for 4th, he went unnoticed in the race.

I absolutely loved seeing the cars go around that circuit  pity there wasn't more of a race for the win though as we saw that you could have a bit of a tussle further down the grid when Ocon was trying to find a way past Alonso

I'm not sure this is such a great track to drive even, minus the thunderdome banking.  Having tried it in VR it's basically "Hungary, uninteresting edition".  There's also shit all in the way of landmarks and that straight is a lot shorter than I thought it was.

It benefits from the reputation the old track had, which had a lovely flow around the back section which is now a housing estate.

the new infield that was built to replace it  in the 80s/90s is horrible stop-start stuff with no flow - hairpin into hairpin, very short straight, tight right into hairpin.

The banking is a neat idea to try and extend the start straight, and it kind of fits as there were always a few banked corners there already so it feels in keeping - and this is one example of the changes made to a circuit to accomodate F1 actually improving a track.

I was never a huge fan of the old Zandvoort. I liked Assen better, even though it's as flat as a stroopwafel. But this revised Zandvoort layout has made it one of my faves. It's definitely not an 'uninteresting Hungaroring' (which I find to be a dull track) because Zandvoort has way more interesting features than that track (more elevation, banked corners, blind crests) and it reminds me more of a shorter Suzuka.

Stroopwafel. Comes in all sizes over here, including dinner plate size. Assen's basically as flat as that.

Yes, and pro-tip I learned from a Dutch work colleague: rest your stroopwafel on top of your coffee/tea/hot chocolate cup so the steam makes the caramel all gooey before eating.

The biggest thing for me is the whole thing is narrow tunnel between 2 lumps of sand, there's very little to judge yourself by, it's very easy to forget where you even are.

Plus that it continuously flicks between being a flow track and the kind of mickey mouse stadiuming that Tilke would be proud of. The last 2 corners for instance, you've got that banking but its preceded by the most irritatingly micky mouse 2nd gear right that effectively makes it a meaningless acceleration zone much like how they ruined the end of Barcelona.

I'd forgive a lot if it provided good racing but I think we'd agree it doesn't really for formula cars and I drove it in an LMP2 and it wasn't a lot better.

Assen would certainly be better but they were very smart to essentially tell F1 to fuck off with the changes they would want.

We're in the danger of encroaching on the mnrc biscuit chat. This is like Dutch version, we had the English(only as us Scots hadn't heard of a certain biscuit) version the other week.

Waiting for the mic drop to happen when George Russell is announced to be staying at Williams and Nicholas Latifi hotsteps his way into that second W13 next year :sherlock:

We've been joking about that on whatsapp.

Worth mentioning George only said he knew where he was driving.

....I really enjoyed the Hamilton/Rosberg championship fight with Nicos final year, hope George gets his elbows out at Merc. It’s become the dullest team on the grid for me.

I have a feeling George is going to spice things up massively at Merc.

Nah I think it's going to be a cordial transition of number 1s, Russell gets to see one of the GOATs up close for a couple of seasons and Hamilton gets to pit himself against someone with a lot to prove but a long career ahead of him.

Just got round to watching it, that was an exhibition rather than a race, Max in total control.

The track is awful for racing, all that time and money to produce that. Paul Ricard has a new challenger. Hope the 22 cars will work here because that was a snoozefest.

This is the best way indeed, but microwaving one for 5secs is also amazing.

If you find the tunnel effect on Zandvoort bad, I'd like you to check the Singapore F1 track with its 3m high barriers.

And all tracks that host F1 have fast, flowing sections mixed with slow winding bits...even Spa. If they weren't it would be called Indycar racing.

I agree with your stance on Assen though. You can also park behind the stand you're sitting on which is awesome.

I'm not partial to Zandvoort just because I'm Dutch, but I prefer this reskin over the old one. So much in fact that it has got my attention now as I really didn't like the old one. Corners flow more and there even were overtakes here and there, despite all expectations.
