It's an interesting subject. On the one hand, RB provide an opportunity to win races and championships, so in that regard, yes, managers and drivers should want the seat if they think they're good enough. On the other hand, it is a car built around Max's driving style, which makes it harder for his teammate. Not to mention, you've got to go up against Max.

Yes, Checo did say he had a drive lined up. Wonder who that was with.

I think what happened to Gasly and Albon is a strong disincentive to go there. Even if you think you;re good enough, you'd have to wonder if you'd get the chance to show it properly with that team in the current setup, which is 100% verstappen.

If I was managing a young driver, I think i'd be biding my time and looking elsewhere on the grid. Even if Bottas gets replaced by Russell, Lewis must only have a couple of years left at most. Alonso won't stick around much longer. Vettel seems happy but again, he may well be looking for an out by the end of 2022. Ricciardo must be considered to be at risk. Those are all fairly good seats.

It’ll be a practice gearbox so no penalty if he’s broken it.

I always assumed this came from the pool and they just allocated one of their allocation to practice - so no penalty if you bend one, but you'd still lose one from your allocation. Apparently not

For the purposes of this Article only, an Event will be deemed to comprise P3, the qualifying practice session and the race.

a) Each driver may use no more than one gearbox for six consecutive Events in which his team Competitor competes. Should a driver use a replacement gearbox he will drop five places on the starting grid at that Event and an additional five places each time a further gearbox is used

Good job he didn't do it in P3 then eh...

So it appears they have unlimited gearboxes for P1 and 2 but not for 3. :blink2:

I seem to remember that after Hubert's death in 2019 there was talk about how to make that sequence safer and it was decided that they can't extend the run off.

Would bringing the gravel traps back be beneficial? I know will point to Zonta and Villeneuves crashes there but they didn't involve other cars and were down the drivers stupidity in cars that weren't capable of going flat out through there.

Just been a really nasty multi-car shunt at Eau Rouge in the W-Series qualifying. Session is restarting which looks hopeful, although they've not confirmed everyone is alright yet.

Everyone is safe but it was an awful crash. Slick tyres on a fast part of the circuit that is damp meant that everyone went straight on and with no run off area they all ended up crashing at the same place.

And there's plenty of wec programs in the pipeline that could benefit from their speed and experience. You'd probably get paid too without having to work too hard.....which suits a quarter of the grid

I really wonder about F1 teams. They fill them with geniuses, aero, engineers, strategists..

Then Williams put their drivers out on inters, great plan, makes sense.

With the weaker of their drivers immediately in front of their good one.

Everyone saw that coming!
