There’s some really nice Williams Martini stuff in the shop. Seems to straddle the ages, you know? A bit of every decade…

and the branded coats are shinier than a 90s M1 bomber jacket, with a BROS logo sewn on the back

Can you? When?

Cars very rarely finish more than 2 laps down now and that's just because it's Mazepin.

To be 5 laps down after 10 laps you'd have to be doing half the speed of the leaders.  A well equipped road car could do that.

Formula 1 has today announced the brand-new Crypto.com Overtake Award to reward the individual driver who makes the most overtakes throughout the season. The award, which is the first of its kind, is designed to celebrate the bravery exhibited by drivers who make bold moves in pursuit of success.

While the Crypto.com Overtake Award is announced as F1 returns from the summer break for this weekend’s FORMULA 1 ROLEX BELGIAN GRAND PRIX 2021, it will be awarded to the driver who has completed the most overtakes throughout the entirety of the 2021 FIA Formula One World Championship and the winner will be presented with a trophy at the end of the season.

I can’t wait to see what the trophy looks like.

Armco on the inside of eau rouge. No room for error. No wonder he lifts.

I was on holiday with my parents and sister at a campsite very nearby that summer of 1991 and we drove over the track back and forth on a couple of days during the holiday on the way to do the shopping in Stavelot.

We drove down the pitstraight on what must have been the weds before the race and could see the teams setting up. We then went round La Source and drove up the old road to the top of Eau rouge.  My dad just pulled over at the top where the track rejoined and there's a picture of me, my dad, and my sister all stood, right at the crest, marvelling at the elevation change.

That moment, combined with so many other things about the 1991 season (Mansell and Williams, Jordan) I think are what turned me into an F1 obssessive for most of the rest of my life to date.

Didn't see the actual race. we were on the ferry on the way home.

Yeah, I think that little period of 1989 (my first full season watching) through 1991 really made me a massive F1 nerd. Especially 1991 - I think that's my personal F1 'Golden Year'. So many amazing drivers, cars and tracks. Plus Microprose's Grand Prix 1 was set that season too hence I got to race it time and time again, which was amazing at the time!

So Aston Martin have revealed that it was their fault that Vettel was DSQ.

They over filled the car at the start of the race, so they had Seb go into fuel burn mode. They told him to come out of it too late and realised there was not enough left in the tank.

Not surprised by this at all. One point though is that I thought teams weren’t allowed to turn the engine up and down any more, only the ERS system, so how can they go in and out of a fuel burning mode at will?

I assume they can drop the car into a fuel saving mode that pushes less through the sensors when they need to be conservative with their usage, so I wonder if it was just a case of leaving it at full beans (which will be whatever they used for Quali) for a while.

No quality drivers available then?

If you were the manager of any up-and-coming (or even solidly established) driver, would you want them to go to RB?

The Red Bull number 2 seat is where careers go to die these days. I think the famed RB driver programme is mostly a bare cupboard these days. I think that second seat is going to be elder drivers serving out their years until max moves on.

More interestingly, wasn;t Checo supposed to have a 2022 drive already lined up when he got the heave-ho from Team Stroll?

It's an interesting subject. On the one hand, RB provide an opportunity to win races and championships, so in that regard, yes, managers and drivers should want the seat if they think they're good enough. On the other hand, it is a car built around Max's driving style, which makes it harder for his teammate. Not to mention, you've got to go up against Max.

Yes, Checo did say he had a drive lined up. Wonder who that was with.

He's not that bad and compares well to his team mate... At the end of the year he'll have the same number of WDCs as Max. :coffee:

Perez has got the easiest job on the grid. He hasn’t got anyone threatening his seat because the RB young driver programme is empty and Gasly is never going back and his two predecessors were so far away from Max anyone is an improvement. I mean he screwed up in Silverstone and no one cared.
