That silhouette, I was like “who wears a hat like that?” And my son was all like “ no way!”

all that clone wars watching has paid off  again

Filoni is fucking ace.

I've only started Clone Wars recently, started season 2 the other day, and was all :omg:when Timothy Olyphant looked at the horizon

To be fair, if I had one criticism:

That episode is probably one of the worst examples of "small universe" yet. Fun as it is.

Still can't top

Spoiler

Anakin Skywalker building Threepio

But yeah, I had the same slight feeling watching it.

That's true. I think there's a kind of earnestness with Filoni's stuff that has me accepting stuff that'd usually have me rolling my eyes at as cloying cynical fanservice.

I wonder, based on the end credits, if there was a scene edited out?

Spoiler

There was this image of a group of Pykes on a speeder. I guess it could represent the opening sequence, but there’s a bunch more of them and a different, bigger speeder.

Great episode though.

The difference I think,  as Treble also pointed out, is that when given that huge temptation for fanservice, he generally uses it as an opportunity for unique character drama, rather than just memberberries.

Well, that was astonishing.

And to me, on the tech side, it looks like they’ve finally learned to use

Spoiler

Deepfaked footage to do Luke vs. the CGI last time. You could actually see when it was a blend of Ep IV era Hamill as opposed to Eps V and VI. Bottom line is much less uncanny valley, and in a few shots it was fucking perfect.

In an ironic way, the fact that it looked so good was actually distracting because I found myself looking for “tells”. His lower jaw looked a bit off at times perhaps, and there was one brief moment where he looked like Christopher Walken, but otherwise it’s scarily astonishing.

Agree but most importantly. Why you now Chief O'Brian and not the dude from Full Throttle?

Re the ending

Spoiler

I think Grogu will choose the armour, I think there's been just enough weight placed on its relevance that, coupled with how expensive it must be to keep putting Luke in the show, it'll be written that he foregoes his training.

Spoiler

Obviously all amazing.

Some questions.  Yoda lost is saber in the fight with the Emperor right?  So presume it's one Yoda must have built in the swamp.

Grogu is gorgoing back to the Mandalorian.  That pod seat is gonna work out for everyone.

Is Fett gonna meet Luke when he Grogu grogos back to Tatooine.  That'll be more awks than Peter Jackson.

OMFG.

So we’re back on board right lads?

That was properly brilliant. And I don’t even like the Clone Wars!

There was a moment in this episode,

Spoiler

with Ashoka and Luke at his new Jedi temple

that was the ultimate fusion of the three trilogies. The comics do that sort of thing all the time (and they’re brilliant for it) but I think that’s the first time we’ve had something on screen that’s so explicitly brought the three eras together.

Spoiler

I enjoyed and disliked the Luke sequence in equal measures, whilst it was great to have more Grogu and the ESB throwbacks it showed too much. I think it could have been cut down and focussed on Luke and Grogu on the hilltop with Mando and Ashoka looking on

Despite that it was ace I just think we need a little more Boba in the Boba show.

Spoiler

He will, so he won't be at the Jedi temple when Kylo Ren torches it later.

I'm normally not a big fan of small universe stuff in Star Wars - which it has a lot - but I really liked this episode.

Spoiler

Beautifully shot, some funny scenes and cool ideas (loved the ant droids), Olyphant is excellent and Cad Bane is properly menacing. Hopefully they have a nice chunk of budget left for an epic finale.

I can see you're all excited and enthused, so I'm clearly in the minority here, but every time I see yet another character pop up from this set of kid's cartoons that really weren't very good, and I'm supposed to be excited about the prospect of seeing in a live-action setting, I just get more turned off.

This Boba Fett series has been a waste of effort for all. The Mandalorian bits have been the only parts worth anything, because he's simply a better character at this point.

Star Wars is already too stuck into nostalgic ruts for me, to want to see them doing

resurrections of Luke that go on for a whole episode.

But, as said, I'm clearly in the minority here. Sorry for being a downer.

You can be a downer as much as you like as long as you also realise you’re utterly wrong, particularly about the cartoons not being good part.

I share some of your criticisms of this show, but as others have pointed out your comments about the cartoons imply either a lack of objectivity or lack of experience with them.
