Cyberpunk 2077 - Are you opting to refund your copy? Now removed from the PS Store

I assume this won’t be CDPR’s ET in the desert moment, but they will have to go full No Man’s Sky on the game to turn the oil tanker of their shattered reputation around. Man, I wonder when that next gen version is actually going to hit now. Surely it’s way out at this point.

And what does Microsoft do now? Pull the game too in solidarity, or quietly smile at having a flawed but de facto console exclusive. After all, Cyberpunk doesn’t crash their consoles but does run like absolute crap on Xbone. As there’s no separation of versions between the old consoles and the X/S, they can’t pull it for just the OG Xbone. Delisting for that would delist it for all.

That’s another example of their niche pandering. What’s the Witcher’s console sales? Something like well over 70%. Same for something like GTA V.  That’s where the actual dolla is and that’s what they should have prioritised instead of making it look nice for the 1% of the 30% of PC users with the setup to play/review it.

And is it really necessary for the character in the tweet to be arse first? What if I wanna get to know her as a person or a fighter. It’s clearly all about the arse in a pose you’d never see Gerald from the Witcher striking.

My apologies, I didn't know you were a lunatic.

'Something like well over 70%' is closer to 57%. And the mix of distribution means they would have earned more money directly on digital, via PC.

Where 'the actual dolla' is, is where it actually is.

A console score of 54 https://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/cyberpunk-2077, mass refunds and the game being pulled from PSN

The perfect end to the 2020 shitshow.

Got my refund for a physical copy from the game collection. They were really good about it, no hassle at all.

I feel sorry for all those poor guys getting this for xmas. Not only do you have to download a 45gb patch just to make the game boot you've got to try to save face in front of your loved ones by being stuck with this busted game.

The Xmas barrage of perfume adverts must really trigger you.

Not really, they are supposed to be selling completely different things. Sexy perfume ads are to make the buyer aspire to be like or be with the sexy perfume lady. Sexy computer game ads is for what? Cracking one off in the basement?

Is the character about her arse or about her cool gun? Look at how Tomb Raider has moved on in their depictions of Lara.

Don’t think I saw a mainstream review of the game less than 8, which just goes to show what a joke games journalism now is.

IGN released a separate review for the PS4/Xbox One version which they gave a 4/10, which was probably quite unprecedented in itself.

Again, not dismissing your overall point, but did you miss the opening scene of the Witcher 3 where Geralt was nude in the bath?

BUT WHAT IF I WANT TO KNOW HIM AS A WARRIOR OR A PERSON ON MY NON-NICHE TECHNOLOGY, WAH.

No need to call me a lunatic, Cyberpunk Defender. Well I obviously quoted figures up to 2015. The game was practically given away after that. What figure was yours? Lifetime?

All those reviews were of the PC version weren't they?

Yeah, apart from one positive review for the PS4 version, Metacritic tells an honest story. It’s just that CDPR made sure the story couldn’t be told before CP2077 came out.

And yes, I’ve opted for a refund having given up on the game last week.

Yeah that was immature as hell too. Ohh look a giant crab about to suck his cock off.

From things like Marvel movies to female leads in games, society has moved on from using sexy asses to sell you on those products.

Yeah they mention bugs, but they are still actively conspiring to sell you a game which is fundamentally broken.

It’s funny as I’ve played for 34 hours (Xbox series s) and have only had a few bugs - hair not showing in a mirror and I couldn’t pick dialogue options at one part. Obviously I can see the videos etc of other people having major issues but I don’t really understand why it’s so inconsistent. Unless the Series S is at a level where it’s more powerful than the base consoles but less than the SX/PS5 so it’s not trying to do excess quality or performance maybe?

Although the xbox versions are still full of bugs they aren't crashing to the dashboard. When this happens on PS4/PS5, an error report is triggered and sent to Sony. In my 10 hours I had at least 6 or 7 of these reports, now think how many error reports they received on the weekend alone, must have been millions. Sony can see exactly how busted this game is which has likely come up in their conversations with CDPR leading to this.

I'd imagine a lot of the weird bugs and issues are race conditions which are just way more likely on slower hardware.

I find the 'Cert is not QA' stuff interesting.

I'm sure the people saying this are correct, and have direct experience of submitting games to Sony and MS, etc.

I've not been involved in a console release for about three generations now, so I'm way out of date, but back in the PS1 / PS2 days, games absolutely were rejected if they had bugs in.  Cert wasn't QA in the sense that they weren't there to find the bugs for you, but if they did find bugs (of the kind we see in Cyberpunk 2077), they absolutely would reject your game.

It's obviously really different now, presumably due to the combination of patches being available, and maybe due to online stores allowing more releases, dunno.

Seems like we've lost something, with consoles games no longer having at least some kind of 'seal of quality' associated with them.

CDPR straight up said hey our game is so broken on consoles you can have a refund if you like (without clearing this with MS or Sony apparently, y'know the companies that would actually be issuing said refunds). Sony are horrible for customer service, but in this case you can hardly blame them for delisting it for now after a statement like that. Like I said MS are now in an awkward position as they have a marketing deal with CDPR which may make that option more difficult for them.

How are physical retailers handling it? Can't imagine they'd have a leg to stand on if someone wanted to return the game clutching a copy of the CDPR statement. I've lost track of Covid restrictions across the country, are game stores even open right now?

The last time I can think of something comparable to this mess is Arkham Knight getting delisted on PC?

Don't forget this excellent quote of blame shifting from them either.

"I can only assume that they trusted that we’re going to fix things upon release, and that obviously did not come together exactly as we had planned."

CDPR, a developer that has multiple released titles across various stores, playing like they don't know how Certifcation and signing off on the release form works.

It's a bit wild they they're still encouraging people to go buy the physical version shortly after a statement saying that the console version of the game is so broken that customers could get their cash back if they want (without checking that first).

well it's a crowning achievement alright. Just not what they were expecting.

What state must have this been in April? Of course, Covid would have had a big knock on effect but in the above statement they said the game was complete . So they've had 8 months to polish and it's still this broken? I don't buy it.

Nah, I think given that the opening hours of the game seem less likely to encounter serious bugs, they probably polished the first 8 hours or so enough so that they would pass cert.

Cert is mainly things like checking system messaging, saving/loading standards, OS disk usage etc. The functional bit is secondary.

If you get a 'this application needs to close' type message in those opening hours, you fail.  But ultimately cert is never going to play through an entire 50 hour game.

The store is entirely owned and operated by Sony and it's at their discretion what's on there so I don't think anybody here is talking about CDPR challenging legally - we all know they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

It's more telling to me that there are games that are just as broken (or even more broken!) still listed and still being sold - the key difference being that these publishers haven't attempted to go over Sony's head and offer refunds.

I don’t think I’ve seen a game as broken as cyberpunk. I didn’t buy it because I’m super good at judging what I’ll enjoy and I also knew this thing was going to be a complete mess. Just look at the timeline of their production.

I don’t think Sony should offer refunds Willy nilly either. If a game hard crashes consistently then yes you should get a refund like in cyberpunks Case and it’s up to Sony to gate content on their store and enforce standards.

If you want a refund because you got 3 levels into wolfenstein 2 and decided you didn’t want to play it any more then that’s your fault.

After CDPR put out that statement saying to approach Sony for refunds you've got to imagine the phones have been off the hook. Couple that with the constant crash logs and very unhappy vocal playerbase and there comes a point when it's just easier to do mass refunds than get in extra support staff to manage the volume of complaints.
