The game does get a little harder after completing act 2 (you'll see more / harder malformed enemies), particularly when avenging fallen scouts. A few times I've been a bit cocky and tried avenging a scout at the start of act 2 with just a pistol and found myself against a malformed severed with a sweeping purple beam of death which has rinsed me and sent me back for another cycle.

Exactly this. Greater quantity of enemies in each room generally, and the Sentients do not pull any punches and have all their nasty attacks from Biome 6.

Sweeping purple beam of death is my absolute nemesis, you have to time the jump perfectly all while worrying about a dozen other attacks and the ole teleport melee trick.

I just think runs vary in how hard they seem. Pretty sure Act 3 is the same as Act 2 in difficulty. Some posts on reddit and the discord suggest that's the case.

All I will say is that I played Act 1 from scratch with my brother in law the other day, and then last night I went back to biomes 1-3 on having completed 4-6. It was an extreme difficulty spike, harder than 4-6 and vanilla 1-3

Ixion DOWN. Ended up with an absolute tank build that has extra protection and protection boost on overloads, and a beast of a sidearm blaster. Didn’t even need to rely on my astronaut!

I’m still on the run but have suspended a ways into Biome 3. Just got a Hollowseeker that is melting everything in its path. The fear of dying with a great build is so much greater than when carrying any number of souls in a From game.

hell yeah brother

when this game clicks it becomes super easy and you just murder everyone. Once you’ve unlocked the health steal artifact you never need to pick green items up again, once you’ve cleared the biome you can jog back through and boost your max health

last night my partner was like “ok I’m playing animal crossing for a half hour and going to bed.”

I was like ok, I’ll fire up biome 4 for a laugh and go Maximum Violence and see how long I last … I ended up clearing 4, 5, and 6 including challenge rooms and the bosses without dying or using any vials

now I just need to do it again for the secret ending

Congrats! Enjoy Act 2.

First time I beat the big guy was an auto-launcher. Just got up close and absolutely melted him. Have tried it since with a tricked out carbine, an EP Driver, and a Hollowseeker and it was MUCH slower going.

The Carbine is amazing against Nemesis, as it doesn't appear to have any damage drop off (particularly good if it's got High calibre too so there is less bloom / recoil).

For anyone wondering, all the weapons have 8 bonus attributes. I didn't see the last ones for the Dreadbound and Colspine Launcher for ages, but have them unlocked now.

I also got the last data cube in my Act 1 run yesterday - this was for the deconstructor consumable, which is crazy good.

Just one glyph in Crimson wastes still to go now.

Does anyone know if restarting a cycle from the menu counts as a death in the stats?

Got the last cypher yesterday, which rolled in the platinum. I think I'm going to take a break from this now, and play something else before Elden Ring comes around.

What an amazing game! Easily GOTY for last year (sorry Hades).

I uninstalled it last night. I'll probably try to platinum it in 6 months or something. +1 easy GOTY

Finished Act 3 this evening. Stunning game throughout, although I probably enjoyed Act 1 the most - everything was so mysterious at the start, and you can’t recapture that feeling . I still have absolutely no idea what the story is supposed to be, but to be honest it doesn’t really matter to me. Elden Ring is going to have to go some to top this!

I’ve returned to this after giving up because of the inability to suspend a play through.  I deleted my save and started again…made it half way into biome 2 in my first go before stumbling through a yellow door and getting killed..although I nearly made it out.   Love it.

Challenge room? I love challenge rooms. They are utter chaos.

Took nemisis down. Had a run where I could stockpile health kits and had an (unneeded) Astronaut.

What. A. Feeling.

Then completed Biome 4 on my first run through. Just starting the next one. Yet to die, but need to sleep. Gona be tired tomorrow. But it’s incredible.

it’s got to the point where if I’ve not finished this before Elden- it’ll have to wait.

I did the same biome 3/4 run through over the past couple of days. This is one of the greatest games ever made.

I have managed to get through about five minutes of any bullet hell game I’ve ever played. I should not be able to dance through the madness that erupts on screen in Returnal the way I am doing.

The Hyperion fight was the most astonishing marriage of artistic intent with core game mechanics, of sound and visuals.

Returnal is by far the most next-gen game that’s been released so far - the way it’s designed around the fast loading and the dual sense creates something new instead of a shinier version of the old. It’s enormously exciting that these machines are powerful enough to allow a team the size of Housemarque to create something on this scale.

It genuinely makes me a wee bit happier when I read of others loving the Biome4 / Hyperion ascent and fight. It’s comfortably my top gaming moment of 2021. And probably the last 5 years.

That music as it starts to increase in intensity as you climb

Ah so, that perfect run came and went. Now I’m struggling to get through biome 4 let along back to 5.

Genuinely thinking that if I don’t finish this next week, I’m delaying the start of Elden ring. Can’t let that muscle memory waste away until the job is done.

But I can also see this taking me a long long time to beat.

doubt it. Did you get all the keys in 5?

Most I've done is two. It feels brutal, with much less time to get your health upped to something I can struggle by with.

So good. Holidays finished now anyway, so never happening.

If you are not using it already, try the electropylon in biome 5 - it seems very overpowered for that zone. Also the reconstructor in the central chamber is pretty handy (normally I don’t bother but if you’ve done the first or second key and use it then it is a big help).
