Colonel Panic
For the past 3 years, I've bought something from Krikkz, either via his original shop, or Everdrive.me So now I have an SD2SNES, Everdrive64 v3.0 and Everdrive N8 Pro. I'm thinking next something Gameboy related, as I'm not much of a Sega collector. Is anyone else thinking of making a purchase? 20% off is great, right? spanky debrest
I want to upgrade to a Mega Everdrive Pro but can't quite justify it for access to a few edge case games & demos.. and not needing to use CDs.. and the other fun extras that aren't really about playing games but would be super pleasurable timesinks nonetheless. However an SD2SNES / FX Pak Pro would result in the SNES being dusted off for the first time in decades and being a permanent fixture again. I've cracked at 20% off before as well, because it's a great deal.
DeciderVT
Undecided between 20% off the N64 X7 while I can get it or putting the money toward a MODE from Terraonion instead.
Dudley
I might take the chance to pick up a Master System one purely for the homebrews and remakes.
Camel
I really need to stop spending money but that SD2SNES* is giving me the eye. *or FXPak Pro as I think they're now called

Nick_L
You can also buy them direct from Amazon (black Friday sale applies there as well) I’m going to upgrade my original ED64 to an X7 I think. I have the Mega Everdrive Pro and the FXPAK Pro, happy to answer any questions on either
Anne Summers
Are these just devices that play ROMs on old consoles? I had a look at the website and that's pretty much what I took from it, but do they do something else too?
Colonel Panic
Playing old console ROMs is certainly the main event. They tend to offer different things like save state support, cheat code support, special chips in the case of the Super Nintendo.

Anne Summers
Do they let you have nice front ends and artwork and stuff? I'm kind of done with doomscrolling (just learned that word recently, did I use it right?) Through lists of thousands of ROMs. But I do like a nice curated set of ROMs with a front-end. Camel
What would a nice front end with artwork and stuff on, say, a Master System look like in your mind? Bear in mind it's going to be running on a Master System with all the limitations that entails.

Generally, no. Bare bones page and folder navigation mostly, white & yellow text on black backgrounds..but this means they nip along and are responsive. However the Everdrive 64s and highest-end MD and SNES ones have customisable menus which can display background imagery or (in the Mega Everdrive Pro's case) scrolling background tiles.

I had a look at the website and that's pretty much what I took from it, but do they do something else too? I've got an SD2SNES, an MD Everdrive X7 and a GBA Everdrive X5... The SD2SNES just lets you play SNES roms on an actual console, but it supports the vast majority of custom chips, so Star Fox and Street Fighter Alpha 2 are all fully playable (amongst all the others). The Megadrive Everdrive X7 has save state support for Megadrive games and also FM sound support on Master System games, so that's pretty cool. I want to upgrade to the Pro though, as that emulates the MegaCD in the cart. My actual Mega CD died years ago, so I'd love this to be able to play the games again. This is the main thing I'm thinking of getting in any Black Friday sale. As for my GBA Everdrive X5, in addition to GBA roms it also plays Gameboy and Gameboy Colour, which I get you're probably thinking "so it should!". But actually, apparently the Everdrive menu boots the GBA in GBA mode, so from there it can only run old GB and GBC games in emulation. It does this pretty well though. And since it's using emulation for GB and GBC games, it also lets you play NES, Master System and Game Gear games on it too. It's not 100% perfect at doing this, but by and large, it's good enough. Most importantly, it means you can do this:

That's sounds like a bit of a discredit. The 'ROMs' are indistinguishable from the real deal, unlike all other forms of software emulation. I agree with you on having the full library on the card. It's a bit pointless with a great percentage of games being total pap, but it's nice to have all the same - if only for reference. I have the full library of PCE games on my Turbo Everdrive, but I always know what I want to play. If I hear about a hidden gem at any point I know that it'll be on there, ready. Colonel Panic
Ha, there are also replacement colour cart shells on Everdrive.Me https://everdrive.me/accessories/ I love how the Famicom N8 Pro looks in blue, might get a new shell for my other carts. I wish I could get a nicer shell for my SD2SNES, it's the release just before the FXPak Pro, and while I'm not losing any sleep over the newer features, the shell looks CRAP compared to newer carts.

I'm tempted by a NES one because they're just not common games in the UK and most of them are boxless. Feels like a machine where I could absolutely stand to do the flashcart way. tbh, that applies to most machines that aren't the Master System but the NES games seem to be the rarest on the whole.
