Haha my wife has her toys, I have mine

I’m pretty sure this isn’t going to fit in the unit my PS4 was sitting in, so I’m glad this thing is white as it’s gonna have to be out on display. Haven’t told my wife yet

When it comes to Resi games, the best ones are replayable as all fuck though. People will be talking about VIIIage for years. Returnal, I’m not so sure. I don’t think a game’s length should be the first thing we place most value on. There are 4 - 8 hour games out there that live enduringly, magnificently and radiantly in people’s top 5 games and shit.

I've not played Village yet as, ironically, I dont think it represents great value for money, but mostly disagree with this.

What is it about Village that will have people talking about it for years over, say, RE 7, 6, 5, etc? What's it doing new that makes it so worthy of remembrance outside of the RE fanbase?

As for value measured in hours, I'm using that as a literal measure of bang per buck giving that Returnal became the poster child of crazy pricing. I also feel that the mount of playtime a game gives is a pretty decent representation of other factors as I am loving every single minute I've invested. Even after three weeks it has a ludicrous grip that I am 100% sure a 10-15 hour narrative lead game would not as it would now be sitting on the shelf, or in trading. I may well enjoy every minute of that narrative but I'd now have moved on whereas Returnal's near perfect mechanics, and its dose of RNG, still have my interest.

For many people it’s a new top 3 entry in a beloved franchise, with some MGS standard bosses and setpieces, with a new iconic character. I don’t get the narrative that it’s average. It is a fucking incredible game.

I didn’t say it was average, just that it is pretty much more of the same.

Returnal very much is not and that’s why I expect it to be looked back on with a lot more respect and appreciation. Also, if you want spectacular bosses...

It’s all horses for courses though as they are wildly different games and I’ll certainly pick up Village when the PC version is more reasonably priced and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it but, right now, the eighth game in a franchise is just not as exciting to me as something profoundly, boldly, new and fresh.

I sold Resi Village as soon as I’d clocked it. It doesn’t offer much in the way of emergent gameplay from what I could tell - ie: you see the same monsters, people etc in the same places and - weapon customisation aside - I reckon most people’s play throughs are going to be very similar.

It’s possible to finish it in 3 hours and there’s an achievement to show for it. Nobody’s doing that on their first or second playthrough.

The best games in this series are designed with a watchmaker’s precision and lend themselves very well to being picked apart and navigated efficiently, planning optimum routes and order of events etc in order to shave “lap times” as it were.

In saying that, I’ve never even been one of those types of player, yet I’ve replayed all of my favourite games in the series many times over, be it because I’m wanting to hype myself for the next one, or it’s coming up for Halloween, or I’m wanting a bit of nostalgia, or my initial playthrough has become a foggy memory or whatever. VIIIage is definitely going to be that type of game for me.

What’s even wrong with that? Some of the best games ever have similar. Souls. Mario. Why does everything have to be emergent? And enemy encounters are pretty emergenty-gameplay-y in VIIIage anyway, in terms of enemies reacting to your actions. You can toy with them and they can counteract your plans and fuck you about as well. Certainly more so than in any other game in the series.

I was signed up for alerts so got an email, when I clicked through I could add to basket, but I've already got one so just thought I'd post it here.  The bundle I saw was nearly £800 though so probably not the worst one to miss.

I had one in my basket but only with a pad and years ps+ so bailed on it, don’t want one that desperately - I’ve only tried to get one once this week using hotstock app so seems a good way to get one!

You'll need the extra pad for when the other breaks :)

I.. think I got one? Got a GAME pre-order at any rate for 8th June - is that pretty much it locked down then? Such a weird process.

Same here... digital edition with PS+ and store credit. Got the confirmation email, but doesn't seem to appear in my account. Nervous.

I know! Due to all the queue faffing I only managed to get in on my phone where I wasn't logged in so had to check out as guest. Now my orphaned order twists in the wind unconnected to my main account, and all I have is a solitary email to prove it! I suppose we wait and see, it'll either arrive in early June or it won't, it's not long to find out.

Hopefully both are co-operative play?

Things looking up I got an email saying the order is being packed and will be dispatched the day before release. But given the 'release' is two weeks away I don't see what they can be packing. Unless they are really taking their time over it, like Rowan Atkinson's character in Love Actually ('tis but the work of a moment'). More GAME tomfoolery, in short.
