The dream is real, my PS5 from ShopTo just arrived, downloading system update now.

I got really lucky, undoubtedly the queue issues that have plagued ShopTo are why I have mine now, presumably because I unintentionally joined at just the right time - 15 mins late for the drop - when the queue had just crashed, and so jumped forward literally over 20,000 places to secure my order. It's not fair on the people that were ahead of me, but I ain't complaining. Still I put in plenty of hours on the stock drop grind before that so I'm just glad its over. Good luck to those still waiting, just keep plugging away.

Congrats! I know it's expensive but you will love Returnal! It feels SO good to play, recommend.

It's apparently been dispatched, the issue is at the delivery centre.....

Some delivery drivers are scum. During lockdown last year I ordered Ring Fit which was in quite high demand at the time.

Box arrived, but tatty but at least it made it. Opened it up and all the good bits were gone (game cart, the fitness apparatus) and just the plastic game box left. They were going for a high price on eBay at the time but that's some fucking surgical thieving right there.

May not have been the same delivery firm, but when asked my driver from Northampton told me they had issues with the equipment that they scan parcels onto vans with.

When mine arrived the guy said they'd had problems scanning them onto the vans.

Mine arrived yesterday. It's huge. Like, I knew it was going to be big, but this thing is massive. It dwarfs the PS4 Pro it's replacing.

Also, without wanting to be a massive downer on the whole thing, I genuinely had no idea how expensive PS5 games are. I figured I'd grab Returnal so I'd have a nice exclusive to play and it's £70 fucking quid! They're all 70 quid!

For whatever reason, I cannot mentally adapt to the idea of flinging 70 quid at a game. I just can't. I must be getting old. So right now I'm not really sure why I've bought this beyond being able to play my existing PS4 games slightly better. I'm having some minor regrets about getting so caught up in trying to get one of these. :(

I hear ya. I’ve always waited a while before picking up a console and by then been able to pick up the top tier games really cheap. I’ve been caught up in the hunting bug too but have a couple of PS4 titles to get through which I can enjoy before splashing out on some new PS5 games. Although I must get Miles Morales as my son is mad for anything Spider-man related.

I’ve finally just got the call from Currys so my PS5 is on the way. Thanks again @Gigawatt

You can get Returnal for about £50 second hand on eBay now unless you really must have a brand new copy. Not excusing the £70 price point in any way but quite quickly after release you can get second hand PS5 games for way less than retail. I think I paid £20 for Miles Morales and that was months ago now.

That’a why I love Xbox Rewards because instead of paying £53.99 for Mass Effect Legendary Edition, I used my points to get £30 off to pay only £23.99.

Great news, hopefully it gets there soon.

I'm also reticent to spend £70 on any game, in fact the only true PS5 games I've played so far are Miles and Demon's (plus a couple of the PS Plus freebies).  But I've had so much enjoyment from playing Ghost of Tsushima, Cyberpunk and God of War in lovely smooth 60fps, and I'm just about to start another playthrough of TLoU2 now that patch has hit, that I can wait for the prices of some of the newer games to drop.

I've warmed to mine, the experience feels pretty premium to me.

If you're prepared to use other stores, you can get games for a lot less. I paid less than £50 for Returnal by getting it on the USA store with some cheap credit. You can still play it on your UK tag, the only difference you will ever see is that you have to buy any DLC from the same store you got the game from.

Possibly the same here.  I set mine up last night and I'm so underwhelmed by the build quality of it, aside from not having a great deal to play on it.  I dunno, it just feels a bit shit for £450!

Considering the price even old gfx cards are going for these days £450 seems very reasonable for what's included.

After a few hours on my new PS5 yesterday I noticed that the right trigger on my controller is kind of 'clicking', i.e. there is a hardish resistance point that I have to click past to get full depression, compared to the left trigger which is smooth all the way through. Is this normal? I'll be pretty pissed if its buggered, thankfully I bought another controller in the bundle but don't really want to unbox it if I don't have to because I was hoping to sell it. It hasn't affected gameplay much but I haven't played any shooters etc that require a lot of right trigger useage.

Did you update the firmware on it? Sounds like the haptic thing is messed up? I take it you've tried it with a haptic enabled game like Astrobot?

Sorry I meant to post in the PS5 thread rather than the stock alert thread. Yes the firmware is up to date. The first game I played was Astrobot and honestly I didn't notice it then, but you don't really need to use the triggers much. I started noticing it a few hours later playing subnautica where you use it a lot for the tools. I will have a go on Astrobot again later and see if I notice a difference. If I don't get a concencus from the forum I can always unbox my other controller and compare them.

I just RMA'd one of my controllers. The right R2 trigger started staying locked down when depressed. New one on the way back to me right now.

I do worry about the longevity of them.

Mines not clicky at all if it helps so it does sound like something is not quite right with it.

The games are expensive but deals can be had (Returnal was under £60 on release day) and there will surely be a few second hand copies about (same for essentials such as Demon's and Sackboy).

Returnal is the best game I've played since Sekiro though and I will be amazed if it's not my game of the year. I must have put sixty plus hours into, if not more, so in terms of value I have had way more bang per buck than, for example, those spending £45 on the likes of RE Village and being finished with it after 12 hours. Not many games can justify such a price but this one is a rare work of crazily addictive genius...

When it comes to Resi games, the best ones are replayable as all fuck though. People will be talking about VIIIage for years. Returnal, I’m not so sure. I don’t think a game’s length should be the first thing we place most value on. There are 4 - 8 hour games out there that live enduringly, magnificently and radiantly in people’s top 5 games and shit.

You can pick up Demon’s Souls for sub £30. I sold a copy on eBay and barely cleared £25 after postage.

and the PS4 games at 60fps are so worth it. Ghost of Tsushima at 60fps is something to behold.

I’m moving onto Days Gone next. I haven’t played it but it’s meant to be great at 60fps.

Returnal will hopefully be a decent price in no time at all.

Other than FIFA 21 which I paid something like £2 for, i've not had to buy a game for my PS5 yet. I did sub to PS+ though.

You get a huge catalogue of games to play from there + the play at home stuff like Horizon.

I completely skipped PS 2 3 and 4, so a lot for me to catch up on, it's all fresh to me.

I also tend to buy games used ( I got a disk version ) so grab a bargain a month or so after initial release.
