The correct ending is always going to be Now Joker's Hat Has Circuitry Running Through It For Some Reason.

(I mean, the actual correct ending is obviously the Fuck This, I Guess We're All Dead Then ending, but I've not reached the end of the game since they patched that one in, so)

If you play that one right, Shepard gives a great speech to the catalyst.

Ok i was wanting to start this as I only ever played ME2.

There's an offer EA play subscription on PSN for only 87p for  the first  month so I though I could do ME1 in that time and if i wanted to continue, go for the £5  a month sub.

Cheaper than buying it outright, and I like  the feeling of ripping off EA.

Not a bad plan; ME1 is the shortest of the lot (part of why it's my favourite), finishable in 12 hours or so, so you'll likely be able to get well on your way through the series in that first month! ME3 is more than the sum of ME1 and ME2, and particularly hefty with the DLC included, so that's the one that will take your time up if you stick with it.

The green ending is crap and seems harder to get in this version of the game. Probably with the omission of the multiplayer.
The choice of Control or Destroy is what it's all about. The job gets done but not without sacrifice.

Its easy! You just need over 7800 War Asset points, which means you have to do every side quest in the game as there are only (iirc) 8000 total War Asset points. And lots of them are missable, because their associated quests will disappear if you do certain story missions before they are complete. Also to achieve this you must ally the geth with the quarians, which is only possible if you destroy the heretics in ME2 and both Legion and Tali survive. In fact, you need almost 100% crew member survival from ME2 because most of the surviving crew have associated missions/ quests in ME3 that give you War Assets.

If you have any access to a cheap copy of the Legendary Edition I highly recommend it. It's not revolutionary, but I do feel it's the best way to play them because there have been some QOL updates and graphics/ performance is better.

IMO ME2 is the weakest one, so you're in for a treat.

WTF??  Its only 12 hours long????  Presumably that excludes side missions/menial tasks?

I should be savouring it more then, I'm over 5 hours into it and I thought I would be at it for like 40 hours!

If you really mainline the story it can be done in less than 10 hours.  There's a lot of side stuff, but it is very samey. Some of it is worth doing for backstory into Cerberus and the like.

Even doing every side quest, exploring planets etc will only take you to around 20 hours. It's a short, focussed RPG with a story to tell, and all the better for it. Which also makes it a pleasure to replay.

I wish more modern RPGs followed its lead!

Fuck This, I Guess We're All Dead Then

Is the only ending that makes any narrative sense for my, and I expect vast majority of, Shepherd(s)

I just wanted Kaiden/Shepherd to be happy space marine husbands deep down though :(

I think that as people say "Destroy" with the patched "Oh it didn't destroy all the relays after all" ending is going to be canon..

A lot of it is skippable garbage, but there are a few things off the beaten path that are worth investigating, e.g. if you chose a Sole Survivor psychological profile then you can discover that Cerberus was responsible, and you should at the very least help Hackett out with the rogue VI on Luna because it will be relevant near the end of ME3 although it does feel like a retcon.

Damn, I accidentally triggered the Collector abduction in ME2 before activating Legion. I literally just clicked the galaxy map and it set the chain of events in motion with no way to stop it (and no recent save to fall back on). I had all other missions done prior to the IFF mission and thought I was ready - if I'd just clicked on Legion first, I could have done his loyalty mission before the Collectors ambushed, but clearly something went wrong there. I didn't even open the map or travel anywhere, I just clicked on it and suddenly we're all piling into a shuttle. Such bullshit!

So now half of my crew is gonna die. 😥

If it helps, think of the ones who died as hard-core Cerberus, and they were all space racists.

It's easier to deal with like that.

At least all my team members survived this playthrough. Last time, I lost Miranda and Legion due to not having enough charm/intimidation to quash their arguments with Jack/Tali. This time, everyone survived the suicide mission.

And then a post completion mission, Arrival, to set up the sequel. Job done.

Question about the post-credits scene from ME3.

Spoiler

I seem to recall in the original version of the game (granted, this was a decade ago!), the Stargazer, talking to the kid, refers to Shepard as "The Shepherd" (note the spelling), which is kind of cool because it makes him/her more of a legendary character from history than an actual person. But in the Legendary Edition that I just completed, the subtitles for that scene still call them "The Shepard" (correct spelling of their name).

Did I just imagine / misremember this in the original version, or did they actually change the subtitles?

EDIT: Well, according to a ten year old YouTube video, my memory is wrong.

Just started ME:3 after playing through the first two. I know I started the first one back in the day, but I don’t remember finishing it, and I never played 2 or 3 at all. Got everyone through the suicide mission in ME:2 at least, so a good starting point.

Nicely done! Now you need to go back and read through the thread for ME2 for the hilarity of some people's choices during the final mission. Pure comedy gold!

I played through ME2 and 3 earlier in the year for the first time. It was a big surprise to me to find that ME2 wasn't actually as good as I expected, and ME3 was far better than I expected, based on how people tend to talk about these games.

I think ME2 has the best world building, with how it shows you the seedy underbelly of the terminus systems and Shepard's squeaky clean record gets impeached a bit by working with Cerberus. Illium and Omega were really interesting locations and Shadow Broker an excellent expansion (tho I kinda don't like the ending imo). But it has too many characters and they aren't all as equally interesting, the Seven Samurai plot setup doesn't work as well with a cast that's twice as much as that, almost.

But ME3 has a whole bunch of stuff going on in it, like how

Spoiler

the characters get increasingly burnt out by the war effort and you see the Citadel turn from this sort of safe haven from the reapers into a crisis centre for the refugee effort over time. That they did an entire expansion where the characters just spend a couple hours on self care with Citadel was a cool idea, in general I think the DLCs get across what the game is all about more than its ending ever did.

Also ME3's skill trees and biotic combos were way more interesting and in depth than the overly streamlined ME2. Underrated game, even if the ending is justifiably considered a bit shit

And my report is still my highest number of +1s ever, in here.

Bought this in a sale a while ago and booted ME1 up to have a look today. I confirmed my suspicion that this is still an excellent game. Ropey faces and cumbersome inventory management aside it's still the best virtual space adventuring there is, no other game gives me that sci-fi feeling like Me.

Not sure how much remastering they did but the environments look great. And 60fps makes it feel smooooth.

Time to hunt down Seren!
