Mass Effect Legendary Edition

Never played this before and I’m gonna start it this weekend with my wife who’s a big sci-fi fan.

Is there an easy / story mode? The story is gonna be the main thing for us even if I’m doing most of the ‘game’ parts.

Is there a class that’s most fun ? Especially if we’re not too bothered about fire fights. From the above sounds decent? I don’t get coop with the Mrs very often so I want to set it up well so we make it through the whole game.

Assuming no change from the original, combat difficulty can be dropped right down; that's how my friend completed ME back in the day, despite it being her first 3D twin-stick game and thus fighting the camera all the way!

In the original version of ME1 pure biotic was the way to go for maximum ease - spamming crowd control attacks like singularity led to quick encounter clearances. However, Mass Effect 2 and 3 seriously need that (by adding armor/shields that need to be depleted before biotic effects work), and I don't know if the updates to ME1 will have brought it in line with them!

(Biotic classes like vanguard are probably still the most 'fun' in terms of area attacks and teleporting around in the later games, but aren't quite as "push button to win" as in the first game)

I thought I'd take a quick look at my achievements from the original, as I recalled having gotten through a decent number of them. Turns out I wasn't wrong!

Evidently I spent a good portion of my MA year focussed on important studies of prothean artefacts. So I thought I'd look at what ones I didn't get, and:

The three at the bottom are for Pinnacle Station, which makes sense as I didn't own it. The others are for never hitting level 60 with a single character, not using Neural Shock or AI Hacking 75 times, and, er, not ever using Liara for the majority of a run. I just thought she was so boring, proving as ever that I really am the perfect weathervane for popular opinion.

Does shep run faster?

maybe not actually travel a distance quicker but animate faster?

I seem to remember shep just jogging on the normandy but now he seems to look like he’s making an effort.

as for the graphical upgrades , if you have a really good tv with really good HDR I would say that all bundled together it does cross the threshold for a “significant” upgrade.

Yes, there is a casual difficulty setting to make things a little easier.

2 minutes in -  runs into a very young Dr. Chakwas explaining what a spectre is.

It must be longer than I thought since I have played this last. my nostalgia is unreal.

muscle memory in the character creator meant I got her exactly right under a minute. I must have created the same character 100 times.

I know exactly how she is supposed to look at this point.

Imagine playing Shepherd as a male soldier.

I bet these monsters enjoy eating their bland, unseasoned dinner followed by a nice sensible, plain rich tea biscuit as well.

My original Shepherd was male, and I like my food spicy.

I'll be playing a female Shepherd this time around though, which will be interesting. I've made custom characters for loads of games, but Mass Effect is the only one where my Shepherd feels like the Shepherd. Maybe that will change after this run.

I never played Soldier but watched N7 Kate's excellent class guide video and it does look more than a little boring. It's basically Gears of War with a better story.

Seriously, if you've only ever played Soldier please give Vanguard a go, or literally any other class. The biotic and tech abilities and powers are what sets the game apart.

*romances Ashley*

So, I suspect the only time you should romance Ashley is if in the third game you end up shooting her.

There's some wonderful poetry to it.

I’ve just looked at my achievements on the original game and I don’t have any of the biotic ones. Or medi gel. Or shotgun or assault rifle

Pistol and sniper only it seems! And I got the extreme power gamer level 60 one

I did Soldier with 1 but quickly moved to Biotics for 2 & 3 and had an absolute blast. I've realised actually I haven't played these since I marathoned them prior to 3 being released. at £4 + MS Points I'm a happy bunny and can't wait until tonight to get stuck in.
