Watched a few videos and for a while now I’ve heard so much about how ruff the first game was. I don’t get, I thought people were just talking about the frame rate in a perticular section and dodgy mako controls but there seems to be a widespread view that the first game was somehow difficult to get on with.

Strange people.

Including plenty on here.  Bizarre.

I honestly can't decide between them most of the time. The third by all rights should be the one I put at the bottom of the lost, but there are just so many 'fuck yeah!' moments in it (plus a load of 'fuck noooooo!') that it claws back points!

They're all smashing though, and I can't wait to get stuck in yet again.

Does that mean you can play 1, then uninstall 1 install 2 etc. I’d be more interested if that was the case?

Not sure tbh, sorry. I have only done the mandatory install, won’t get a chance to take a further look until I start playing after work.

In other news for those on Xbox like me, just something to be aware of:

We have identified an issue for Mass Effect Legendary Edition on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, where the game will exit to the dashboard if booted while different accessories like wireless headsets are connected.

We’re currently working with Microsoft to fix this ASAP in a post-launch update. In the meantime to start playing the game, we recommend you do not use any extra peripherals until this is resolved. Wired headphones are still ok to use.

As a temporary workaround, the following steps will let you use your wireles headset in each game.
1. Ensure your wireless headset is turned off
2: Launch Mass Effect Legendary Edition from the dashboard.
3: Once you are at the launcher screen with the game, choose Mass Effect 1, 2 or 3.
(don't turn on your headset yet, we're nearly there)
4. Once you are at the title screen for either Mass Effect 1, 2 or 3 you can now turn on your headset, and you will be able to play with audio working as normal.

Note: If you return to the launcher for selecting ME 1, 2 or 3, at any time while your wireless headset is conneced, the game will close out and return you to the Xbox dashboard.

Yeah, I've got to say that, as much as ME3 is my least favourite by a large margin, I'm looking forward to the whole playthrough - not just the first's brilliant evocation of pulp-SF and the second's victory lap of melodrama, but coming to the final furlong without the risk of it disappointing me, and with the citadel DLC that I never played to look forward to!

Actually, that's a question: has there been word on whether they a) got rid of the grotesque linking of 3's war readiness* mechanic to the multiplayer, and b) whether the multiplayer exists at all in this version?

*or whatever it was called

Yes, your galactic readiness rank has been reworked to start from the beginning of ME1. Specific mechanics are unknown but there's no multiplayer in this release.

However, Mac Walter said 'maybe' they could pull something together if there is enough interest.

I bloody loved the ME multiplayer so would love to see it come back.

Yeah I loved the ME3 multiplayer as well. The fact it tied into the campaign was clever (I also remember an app that also got you those points).

Can't believe this is out tomorrow. Rolled around fast.

Really? I must have missed it when I set up my character. Fair enough.

Yeah, it would be really odd leaving that out as there are some story/mission things that alter slightly depending on your choice.

Not sure how you could miss it, it asked when I created the character. 1 questions about where you grew up and 1 about an event that happened to you.

I didn't get that. It went straight from choosing male or female to choosing the name and the game started.

This probably looks a lot better than the original Mass Effect but no better than I remember it in my head (I only played a bit of it).

I’m sure 2 looked better than this on 360. I thought they’d unified them but I assume they’ll have the same improvements they did originally so hopefully 2 will look better etc.

It’s fine, but not the special remaster I’d have hoped for. I think it would have been better to give it more time and remake them in a unified engine or something.

This is exactly what I’m expecting.

In some respects I’m expecting the resolution bump to make a negative impact and really show off just how old these games are compared to modern tech.

I saw a video that was a couple of seconds long of Omega and it looked completely deserted. Was hoping they fleshed out the world with non interacting NPCs

Eden Prime actually looks good there. That gives me hope they've done some serious work in the intro to ME3, which despite being fucking great, often looked like a basic cartoon, or toys being played with.

I think the Normandy was meant to be a toy being played with lechuck. :D

I never played any of the DLC originally, how much single player content (hours wise) is new for me to experience in this bundle?

Also, how is it implemented? Are they just additional quests that trigger at a certain story point?

Yeah, it’s kind of sharper old shit that’s also a bit brighter or more contrasty with the HDR.

It’s fine but I think we’re at the point where they need to start looking at filters for games of this era like they have for old pixel games. I know some don’t like them, but I think they’re quite good when done well. Some scanlines or something might even work. I quite liked the film grain that was in ME2, maybe it’s that that’s missing.

I’m not sure what changes have been made as I didn’t play the original much but ME1 definitely feels much better and more playable than I remember. I know the sadomasochists loved it but for everyone else, it’s better now.

Crucially does the first game retain its 70s sci fi look? Or is that gone with all the bells and whistles?

Just played 2 hours of ME1 and for a newbie, it’s utterly superb and loving it. Those 2 hours have flown by and that’s always a good sign! Can see me getting addicted to this very quickly! :D

Looks great too using quality mode on Series X.
