Who Did It First?

Didn't Asteroids(1979) have a teleport button? It'd warp you to a random point on the screen, iirc.

I think Quazimod's Spacewar trumps that - it was developed in 1962!

Bloody hell. A video game actually developed before I was born. D'you know how rare that is?

Yeah you're right. Good shout.

Still not as good as Spacewar! which had it in 1962:quote:

Man, a lot of people seem to have Quasimod on ignore...

First game to have individually modelled fingers on a character model in-game (not cutscenes)?

Shenmue or Soul Calibur on Dreamcast I reckon.

I only see evidence of closed fists during gameplay, but there is a clear two fingered victory salute when a Star is won, but that isn't playable gameplay at that point, so...hmmm.

OBJECTION!

This is a silly UX/UI one, but what about hold a button to perform an action while a little bar or circle fills up, rather than just a button press.

A special thank you to the first game to introduce "press X to skip cutscene".

Some random ideas, for the hell of it:

First working mirror (this'll probably be a 3D game I'm guessing). I'm sure Duke Nukem had them, but were they done earlier?

First homing missile (friendly or hostile).

First game where the player can have a pet cat (I think pet dog would probably be Little Computer People).

Streetfighter 2 accidentally introduced combos to fighting games, Super Streetfighter 2 was the first one with a combo counter to acknowledge them.

Didn’t Yie Ar Kung Fu have combos?

First game to have split-screen two player?

Early examples would be Pitstop 2, Spy vs Spy and Kikstart 2. . Not sure if any of those are the first, though.

The Duke Nukem mirrors weren’t mirrors. They were duplicates of the rooms.
