I've got a pair of the Penrose for wifi sofa gaming on my ps5 and love the sound, no problems with any hiss or crackle or connections.

I do have a question though, more for @SteveH. Is the volume wheel on the left ear really hard to move for you? Mine is incredibly hard to turn to the point of sometimes having to take them off to move it and if not being really hard to tell if it has moved at all which is ridiculous. I'm tempted to send back as maybe an issue with it?

No mine definitely isn't that hard to turn. Sorry to say, but I think you would be best returning them.

Ive been having a few issues with my steelseries 7x, basically it was beeping and dropping the sound - could do it pretty much constantly and then not do it - most annoying mid game. I did solve it by slightly moving the dongle away from a metal model car it was behind….

It got me thinking tho, my mate borrowed my wired setup and now doesn’t use his wireless one he bought (i loaned him mine as his PS4 headset didn’t work on the xbox so i felt bad that he would need to replace it to join me on xbox) as he prefers the wired one 😂

I mainly went wireless to have one headset that worked across my consoles and remove the need for the mix amp as the 3.5mm sound on a PS4 was so poor but the Series X and PS5 seem to do sound very well via the pad…. If i ever get my old headphones back i will have to do some testing…

My son has Astro A10s but wants a wireless headset instead despite there being nothing wrong with them for his needs - he uses them primarily on the Xbox and sometimes on the Switch.

What are the options if any for under £100? He’s getting a Series S (don’t think this will affect anything though) and ideally would be able to use them on the Switch too, presumably with a dongle I’m guessing? The MS headset looks good for the price but I’m assuming it’s a no go with the Switch?

There aren't that many headsets that work wirelessly with both the Xbox and Switch that I know of, especially for less than £100. I'm sure someone will be along to prove me wrong shortly, however.

The Steelseries Arctis 7x work with both (that's what I have - you just need to change a little switch on the dongle that comes with them depending on which console you're playing), but expect to pay about £140.

Thanks - it’s a step in the right direction that such a product exists :)

I saw some mention of those 7x headphones but wasn’t sure if the details, cheers.

The 7x work with pretty much everything, only thing I've tried that didn't like them was an Nvidia Shield TV. Otherwise, switch lite, series X, PS4, several phones, a Chromebook, even used it for teams meetings on an Amazon fire tablet. Very versatile headphones.

The other option would be something like a Bluetooth or RF dongle that just plugs into the 3.5mm jack. Except audio latency with Bluetooth though.

Edit: sorry, wrong headset.

Steelseries are doing a sale on their website. The Series 7 headset is down to £123, which is a pretty good price - less than I paid for them. Just be aware that some users have reported delays getting their orders directly from Steelseries' website as they come from the continent, but mine arrived in a timely manner.

I'm currently using an ancient pair of Sennheiser HD 580 headphones that I've dug out of a drawer and replaced all the foam on because it had rotted. I plug them into the Xbox controller and use the Dolby Atmos plug-in. They sound great and they are really comfortable. I like the big earcups and the open-back design. Someone on eBay sells replacement leads with inline mics so I've added one of those, the mic's pretty quiet because it's down by my chest but in general I use them mostly for single-player games so I'm happy.

My son uses them constantly for Fortnite though and the little git keeps pulling them out of the controller by tugging on the lead, as a result I'm already on my third lead and this shit is getting expensive. I'm considering getting a proper wireless headset to improve the mic quality and make it son-proof, however I don't want to compromise on sound quality or comfort. I'm really only looking for something to use on the Xbox Series X.

Just as an update, I bought the Lucidsound LS50 X headset. It's going back. I mean it's fine but it doesn't sound any better really than my current Sennheisers and it's a hell of a lot less comfortable. The convenience of wireless doesn't justify the cost and to be honest the mess of tiny buttons and having to charge it and keep on top of firmware updates kind of outweighs that anyway.

At least I've satisfied my own curiosity - no point in buying an expensive gaming headset if you've got a decent pair of cans. If these headphones break, I'll buy another pair of headphones.

Forum, some advice please. My astro 10 have died.

I need a new headset purely for Xbox use. I have no issue in using a wire into the pad as it means I don't have to mess about charging it but it's not a necessity.

Currently looking at either steelseries 7 and the Xbox official headset.

Budget is around ,£100 but can go a bit more if required. Is steelseries the best choice?

Yes, Steelseries 7 are great, but I'd be surprised if you can get them for £100.

I just got my Philips headphones and mic setup back from a loan and used it on the Xbox Series X and PS5 for the past week and fuck me it blows the Steelseries 7x wireless things out of the water, night and day better.

Anyone after a pair of 7x!?

What Phillips headphones and mic are you using?

Yeh my Xbox one arrived. It's like night and day compared to the astro A10. The chat party for one is so much clearer.

I love how you dial the chat in and out and the volume - such a simple idea but really well designed.

Philips Fidelio x2 and a V-Moda boom mic, ive had the setup for years and used to run with a Astro Mixamp last gen - went wireless this gen but plugging them straight into the pad has been a revelation.
