Borat: Gift of Pornographic Monkey to Vice Premiere Mikhael Pence to Make Benefit Recently Diminished Nation of Kazakhstan

Recommended Posts

Watching this now and it doesn't have the feel of the first film at all. The real people includes some bigots, but  Borat and his daughter seem to just be going around annoying and embarrassing well meaning people for the most part.  Not very funny  and situations seem forced and rely on social compliance. Some of the shop workers seem to be exposed as racists or bigots but I just think they are trying to do their job.  Also it seems very obvious that the main people he speaks to have been prepped in advance or are taking part knowingly.  Would that cake shop really be selling cakes with a plastic baby on?

The Mike Pence bit has the daughter making the first moves and deliberately engineering the whole situation. The actress is 26, and we know women throw themselves at these sleazy businessmen. She appears complicit in flirting with him first, so what's the point? The whole idea of the movie seems to be to expose this, but we knew it anyway. Trump was exposed for grabbing women by the pussy before the election and he still won.

I thought the bigot count was quite high but, yes, there were some lovely people in it. The Jewish ladies were so sweet and I actually found those moments as interesting as the hard targets. Even the moments with the right wing conspiracy theorists had a depth of feeling missing from the first. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it having heard it was weak.

I don't think it does that.  If they did a regular interview and Rudy Guliani decided to hit on the interviewer you have a newsworthy #metoo story.  If you set him up he comes across as a guy who went for the opportunity that was created and presented to him for that very purpose.  I think there's a category of the male population who might even feel empathy for him.  The woman is smoking hot, leading him on, takes him to the bedroom and starts pulling his shirt of out his pants.  It's just a very uncomfortable watch and I don't think anyone comes out of it well.

The message of the film seems to be, "You know that sleazy bunch of misogynists in the White House?  Well, guess what - we made a movie that exposes them as a sleazy bunch of misogynists!".  We already knew this.  The skill of Trump's presidency is to create a situation where the people who love him will continue to do so, regardless of what he does ("I could shoot someone on 5th Avenue!"), and those who hate him will continue to do so.

This film won't change anyone's mind.  It's like the Harry Enfield DJ spoof of the Sex Pistols interview, where the DJ asks Johnny Rotten to say shit for money, then when he does the DJ yells "how dare you" and berates him for doing what he wanted in the situation he created.

He's the president's lawyer and the ringleader behind the Hunter Biden laptop conspiracy that's being funded by the Russians.

This isn't hypothetical. It's that guy with his hand on his dick with days to go until election day.

The Dictator was much better, and thats a fact!

Wtf how anyone can't find the debutante ball and that one girls reaction to her dad not batshit mental and hilarious. Needs to have a word with themselves.

Well I thought it was important, powerful and moving. Yes they struggled with his fame, but his daughter was a revelation.

it showed powerful shitheads to be shitheads. It showed exploited fools to be exploited fools. It showed the compassionate being compassionate.

Guliani has no excuse when the Jewish lady handles her situation with such grace.

It’s an important and powerful contrast.

OMG. This was so cringey brilliant. Some of you guys need to lighten up! The balls Cohen had to pull this shit on people!

I mean the fake story bits were shit apart from a few funny one liner digs at trumps America. But the real stuff and that dipshit juliani, awesome!

I honestly got a bigger laugh out of reading a description of the ruddy scene, if I had seen it blind, it would have been hilarious.

We know this happens a lot, we now have it camera! That’s the point!

I think the best part is Borat and his daughter doing a 90s rap cover during the credits. The actress playing his daughter has a great voice!

Incredible how they both set up and had the nerve to do certain scenarios. Interrupting Mike Pence's speech, singing about murdering scientists to a redneck crowd, dancing with period "blood" on her  dress to a room full of teenage debutantes*, and of course  the Rudy scene.

*That bit where he got a father to respond to his bait, and his daughter's response, was brilliant.

And this

We enjoyed it, but not as good as the first movie. Not anywhere close really.

Both thought the Guliani scene was overhyped. Didn't show him in a great light but not as bad as the media reports had led us to expect.

I fully expect him to have gone further had SBC not walked in.

I didn't really enjoy this too much. There were some laughs and cringe moments but it was no where near as good as the first one. I think the problem was, it didn't feel like a full on Borat movie and more of a "Who Is America?" film (SBC recent TV show). He only really played Borat for "storyline" moments, bits with his daughter and away from the public. The character is too famous now to pull tricks on the unsuspecting public and he had to dress as other characters which just doesn't play out anywhere near as good or funny.

There were genuine great moments like McDonald Trump, the Debutante Ball and the Running of the Yankee but nothing anywhere near as hilarious or memorable as the stuff from the first film.

I also didn't like how so many moments felt fake either. I don't know if thats because we live in a what feels like a post satire world or the fact the internet has moved on so much in 14 years that you can never tell what's real or not with some stuff, but moments like the one with the Jewish ladies and babysitter just felt incredibly scripted (they probably were to be honest). None of the smaller enclosed encounters felt as genuine as Borat 1.

The stuff with the Republican/Trump rally and Rudy Guiliani interview whilst shocking in nature is not really surprising at all if you've been watching the news for the last 5 years. What was he trying to prove?

The addition of the daughter was good and added a nice dynamic to it all but as for Borat himself, he just felt tired and outplayed.

A disappointing 2/5

I did not expect to find a defence of Rudy fucking Guiliani in this thread.

...

I thought it was great. Not as laugh out loud funny as the final act of the first one. I had expected it to be a bit thin considering the challenging conditions (people now knowing the character, and the pandemic hitting midway through production), but the daughter character absolutely saves it.

I even enjoyed the very gentle 'members of the public' scenes (the fax guy was a great sport), they felt very heavily influenced by Nathan For You, but I suppose Nathan Fielder was in turn influenced by SBC.

The Guiliani bit felt very creatively edited. But it's impossible to argue that he's not completely mental and a sleazy fuck. There feels like a bit of despair to the whole thing, in sane times this would unquestionably end his career, but the Republican party is just completely broken now. He says Covid was engineered by the Chinese and offers to share a bat, ffs. He's very very senile.

Sorry it wasn't 'real' like your satirical genius hero Jeremy Beadle, forum cineastes!

I thought it was boring and obvious. Nowhere near as good as the first movie and I didn't buy half of the 'real' people in it either.

That’s because it’s clearly all staged and they were blatantly actors. It’s all fake as fuck, you could even see how stuff was edited together to give a different context.......and yet it still wasn’t even remotely close to being funny.

Really enjoyed the first film as did my GF, however we both found this uncomfortable viewing, as did my mate and his Mrs, as it’s all a bit, well.......noncey.

An underage 15yr old girl being used in Bestiality Porn? An underage 15yr old girl lying on her back with her legs wide open and showing her first period and soaked underwear in public? An underage 15yr old girl learning to finger herself in some toilets? An underage 15yr old girl being taken to a doctors for an abortion after her Dad has “put a baby inside her”? An underage 15yr old girl being forced to have an “abortion” in some public toilets? An underage 15yr old girl wanting to sleep with older men and getting breast implants? This is basically what the whole film is built around. It’s absolute fucking trash.

Seriously, what the fuck is supposed to be funny about any of that? It’s noncey as all fuck! It’s basically on a par with that nonce film that was released on Netflix.
