If you are not HR7 yet then you still have a load of keys to do and then the final boss.

Is the final boss not

Spoiler

Wind servant Ibushi, then?

Nope.

Yeah, I've fully unlocked HR7 now and it turns out there's another monster. Who would've thought it, eh? I'm not sure if I can be bothered with it, to be honest. especially if it's another Rampage quest, which it sounds like it is.

It's quite good and not a rampage and it's the monster to farm for charms.

The final boss isn't another Rampage, and you're so close to finishing the tutorial!

Ah, that's good. I'll keep going!

I saw a build someone put together with the Barroth LBG which rapid-fires Shrapnel 2 ammo and made my own version which has 51% affinity when you're just walking about shooting with full stamina, but... you can't really aim it at anything in particular, which makes it boring to play. When you're not doing whatever it takes to not get hit, it's just mashing ZR until the monster dies. The damage is a bit underwhelming compared to a fully specced-out RF Pierce 2 build, but it's enough for ~10 minute hunts.

I think that fight is pretty cool. You better get used to it though as currently it is the most efficient way to farm talismans.

Did it on my second attempt. I just didn't like that it's so divorced from what you're doing for the other parts of the game.

Anyway, at least it's done. 46 hours on the clock and I reckon I've had my fill of this for now. I know I keep saying it, but I feel like I've burnt through this a little bit and am ready to play something else.

What are you supposed to do once you've run out of key quests? Are you guys just playing the same quests over and over to farm materials in order to perfect your builds?

Pretty much, but there is normally more to do endgame, which will come with the updates. Try more weapons, make more sets.

Are you playing offline cuz I can imagine that is not quite as much fun as jumping in with a load of randoms and smashing monster faces in. Hence the burnout.

Yeah, entirely offline. I did think about getting NS Online for it but it felt like a bit of a waste to just get it for this game. Plus, having a toddler means it's difficult to commit to a session without fear of being interrupted.

I'm not really into farming/grinding in games as a rule, but I'll keep this as my podcast/bed/toilet game and just play through quests here and there. It's an odd sort of game because on the one hand it's perfect to pick up and play, but then it's so complicated and the high rank monsters are challenging enough that if you forget how to play it then coming back to it must be pretty difficult.

Well done on soloing it all, that's pretty good going.

I still haven't explored other buddies or their gear. There doesn't seem to be any point. But then I'm still not very far in

To be honest, even in high rank I only bothered to update my buddy equipment to whatever had the highest Atk/Def that I could create. I didn't bother specialising for different monsters. I think a lot of it is just fashion Souls.

There's quite a good gathering Palico build to look out for with some skills that can stun the monsters a lot and give you more rewards from the quest, but the gear is more cosmetic.

I think that remains the key problem with this game, the difficulty level throughout means you never really have to engage with half the game's systems unless you specifically want to.

I'm 99% certain I could make it through HR6 and HR7 in an evening with the gear I've currently got. I'm farming stuff to upgrade my weapon but that's more out of a desire to get more out of the game than it is a necessity. I spent 100+ hours in MH3U and MH4U just on solo quests, with a bit of multiplayer thrown in - here I will have rinsed absolutely everything in both solo and multi in significantly less than half of that time, and that's a bit of a shame.

Remember tho 3U and 4U were the ultimate versions of the game with the extra G rank content. Saying that I agree this is a tad short but as we know it's not finished because of Covid.

Some of the HR7 monsters are pretty tasty when playing solo with a melee weapon. Most will two-shot you, Tigrex, Mag and Rajang especially, even with high-level, upgraded equipment. That said, I only got sent back to the Village once in my entire playthrough. It's *exquisitely* frustrating when you faint, though, especially if you get animation or stun locked.

Set up the Palico recruitment to find Gathering Palicos and then check after every quest for these skills...

Endemic Life Barrage (they all have this one)

Go, Fight, Win
Power Drum
Shock Purr-ison
Pilfer (they all have this)

Bonus if they have attack up skills in the part where you can choose what skills they equip.

Why would you do that?

I don't know, really. I started off with one Palico and one Palumute, but I noticed that the Palico didn't seem to be doing a great deal, so I just decided to go Double Dog and stuck with it from about my third quest onwards. They don't collect anything for you or heal you or anything, bit they're pretty good at distracting monsters, and their attacks add up over time. A fair few hunts have been won by one of my trusty hounds!

Don't you want Status Attack Up for ELB as a skill?
